What does your house look like

I think all the floorplans are beautiful. I love looking at houses from all across the country. I hate that all of you with two stories have your master upstairs. Finding that here in the DFW metroplex is so difficult. Everyone here wants to be downstairs and away from the kids!

I think we probably have the oldest house out of everyone so far. It was built in the late 1800's. It's a 3 story Victorian with a wrap-around porch. There's a small unfinished basement. First floor - kitchen, dining room, powder room, family room, exercise room. Second floor - kid's bedrooms, bathroom, master bedroom with private bath. Third floor - playroom/family room, laundry room and my hubby's office.

We have completely renovated the house since we purchased it almost 11 years ago. The only thing left to do is the kitchen. Real estate here is crazy now too. We bought this place for about a 5th of what we could get for it now. Little 1 bedroom bungalows are going for like $250,000!

Loved all the house pictures!! Wish I knew how to post some.

Here's our tiny house. 1200 sq ft 1940 Cape with detached garage. 2BR/1 BA. Full basement (currently unfinished)

That's a popular style in RI! Here's my 1300 sq ft 1953 Cape, 3BR/1BA with a detached 1 car garage. I think almost everyone I know has started out in a similar Cape in this area.

Wow. Well, I'm staying in NJ till the kids are out of HS so I guess I don't have one of those homes in my future!

But I do like my house. It's a 1950s ranch, 3BR 2BA but we're in the process of adding on a master suite to make it 4BR 3BA (can you hear the hammering?) It'll be about 1800 sq feet total when the addition is done, plus a partially finished basement that adds about 500 sq ft of living space. It's costing us probably at least $150,000 less to add on than it would to buy a smallish 4 bedroom around here, that is, if we could find a smallish 4 BR, most available are at least 3000 sq ft and well out of our budget! The smaller ones sell before they get listed.

No floor plan handy- it's got small bedrooms on one side and nice large public spaces on the other. Big LR & DR, the kitchen has plenty of space for two cooks and an island to keep the eating area separate. We have a nice sized den, and all the rooms flow nicely together, it's great for entertaining because people can spread out but still be part of the party. We're also adding a large deck. Our property is almost an acre, flat, shaded.

This is a shot from the back of our property toward the house. The addition is coming off where that window is on the right.

Sorry, it's a dark photo. I'll try and find a better photo.
The house was built in 1911. It is approximately 2700 sq ft. We live in a town north of Toronto. Prices of new houses start at around $300,000. This house would probably sell for close to $500,000, but we aren't going anywhere.
When my grandparents retired from farming in the early 1960's they bought this house. My parents bought it in the early 70's when my grandfather died, but didn't move us in until the 80's when my grandmother died. We've done many renovations since we bought it in 2002.

Windsor Floorplan

Our house looks a little different, though, because our garage is side-loaded.

I can't believe how much the base price for our home has gone up in two years! We did NOT pay what they are asking now...in fact, almost $60,000 less. It's ridiculous, there are homes for sale all over our area, but as long as people can finance 103% on a new home, all of us who are trying to sell are never going to be successful, since you would need a downpayment to buy from us.

We had our house built in 1994, it's a 3 BR 2 1/2 bath colonial with about 1,800 square feet of living space. I could easily use another 1,000 feet, but at the time we thought this would be enough.

Sorry, I'm not posting a photo, the only ones I have our address (house number) is visible.

We just moved into our new place (renting for now) and it's so cute! It's half a duplex, 3 BR, 1.5 bath, kitchen, living room, dining room, and I LOVE my garage and basement. :) It's little, but it's the perfect size for DFi and I as a first home. :)

The only problem with the Texas house prices is if you want to leave. DH was offered a job in Conn. a few years ago. Once I saw what $280,000 could get you there verses my $112,000, I made him turn the job down.

Isn't that the truth! When we moved here from Houston (not far from you--Copperfield) we sold our house for a decent profit and bought a house of about the same size. It was an older house, so hard to compare, but it cost $75K more and we're talking about selling a house that went for 105K and buying a house for $180K. That was before the market took off here--that house would go for a lot more now (we don't have it any longer).

We could not afford to buy the house that we currently live in--we bought it 6 years ago.

Here are the pictures of our new house
You got all this for just $245k? In NC where I live, this would EASILY push about $450k or higher, especially in a good neighborhood!

It's our first house too...we had a condo and sold it. The 600 sq ft, 3rd story apt. just wasn't working when we added the 2nd (hyper-active) dog!. We're pretty happy with it...except for the lasndscaping to be done and building of a garage! I'm not a handy man...at all...

Here are photos of our house:

do you know if it is still up after the hurricane? I don't know how familiar you are with MS but i am in Madison, north of Jackson and it is crazy how much it is to live here, even just compared to nearby towns 10 min. away! :confused3
Oh, yeah, It had no damage at all. The privacy fence was gone, but we replaced that and the house was perfect. No flooding or wind damage to speak of. We actually lived in it until we moved to Texas in December. It's insane what the house prices are doing on the coast.

I am jealous.

We live in a 2000 sq ft raised ranch, built in 1965. We have 3 BR, 2.5 baths, and a small family room downstairs. We do have a very nice yard - a little over an acre, about 1/2 cleared. Market value of our house is about $550k.

I can't imagine the houses some of you have for such little amounts of money. I keep telling DH we should move further south (which would also get us closer to WDW :) ).

My dad paid more for my moms car than for our house the one I posted pics of,
It worth a lot more now than what he paid.

I love the house that you posted, especially the yard. It looks open and has plenty of greenery. That's actually really hard to find where I am because the soil is so dry and if there's ever a tree its just a stinky old pine :guilty:

Thank you thats what we love too my grandma planted most of the trees
It used to be a cow farm and none of the trees existed till my grandma bought the land.
And we are allowed to use the golf course for walking at night and sleding in the winter so its like having a really huge backyard.

it is crazy. I am from new orleans and a lot of people we know sold their house "as is" and took off! my sister is getting married and tried to buy a house in mandeville (where i am from) and there are NO HOUSES for sale, at all, period. and if one goes for sale, it is gone in less than a day! :confused3

Love the big yards!!!! That is one thing my house lacks in the back is a big back yard. Bigger house, smaller yard, that's the way it's beginning to be here in our part of Texas :sad2:

Really? That surprises me. I would be too worried that I couldn't get to them if there was a fire or something. :confused3
