What does your company give you for Xmas

I work for a College and get 6 days off with pay which is awesome.

My husband gets 3 days paid off and usually gets a $200 GC, but with the economy this year it was downgraded to two movie passes with popcorn/drink.

We are both so thankful for our jobs. My husbands work gave us $750 cash when we adopted our two children and my work gave me $350 which was so generous. They treat us so well.

Our bonus is determined by our managing partner (attorney - but not an important or highly paid one) and as mine are not "holiday focused" I get nothing [my bosses are very nice - just not holiday people]. Some of the associates get pretty nice gift cards, or thoughtful gifts. The secretaries get nice bonuses for Christmas and a party - which is I guess way more important than keeping us happy.

Is it a salaried job? I am a teacher and while they *say* it is a paid holiday, it really is just built in to our pay as far as I am concerned.

My dh works for a small electrical company, and i truly believe he has the best boss in the world....He gets a substantial bonus (1000-1500) and a luncheon with free drinks (which must cost him a fortune as it goes all day at a restaurant)...BUT we have been on 4 disney trips in the last 5 years, and each trip, he has handed all 5 of us a $100 dollars american each to take :cool1:..my kids think he is the greatest....

My older two kids work for chain retail stores and both stores (big ones) had free dinners and gave away amazing prizes...my oldest daughter probably won 75 dollars in makeup...my sons supervisor yesterday just handed him a vikings mug to thank him for bailing him continously...made my sons day, he is 16 and gets called in all the time, really made him feel appreciated, plus it came out of his supervisors pocket, not the stores...

merry christmas to everyone!!!

I am a teacher. The Principal and Cafeteria staff made a luncheon and everyone brought in dessert. That was really nice.

The administration gave everyone a card and a Christmas ornament. While I appreciate the gesture, I'm Jewish.:confused3

I used to work for a retail start up company. Our specific industry was not busy at Christmas time.

Stores- we gave each manager a small budget to so someting for their staff- (i.e - go out to dinner, buy movie passes, etc). Stores only had about 5 associates.

Store Managers- we had a small holiday party in a central location at a reataurant. I organized this and tried to give out a little inexpensive item- I would have mugs or a tote bag made up with the company logo.

Corportate office- we got nothing. We organized our own pot luck luncheon with a Toys for Tots Drive and the final straw for me was the year I ordered a lasagna tray (I came back from WDW the day before so no cooking for me), a woman in my same salary range ordered a Honey Baked Ham (spent a small fortune), and the Sr VP of Marketing brought who made at least triple of my salary in a bag of chips and dip. Personally, I think all the overpaid Harvard Business School buddies who ran the company into the ground should have chipped-in to pay for a few take-out trays from a nice restaurant! Let the little guys like me bring in the chips or a 2-liter bottle of soda! (btw-no offense to anyone who went to HBS...)

My boss- he always got me someting nice, when I bought my house it was gift cards I for home depot, etc...

DH is a consultant. They used to have big holiday parties but those days are long gone. Nothing else.

to Tr-Ray- so sorry for your Mom, sending Pixie Dust her way!

My husband rcvd a holiday ham (they are very good we look forward to them every year) they also have a nice Holiday party - he also recieves his annual bonus around the holidays and this year is was much last then other years but still we really appreciate it and always use it to buy something FUN - we bought a new TV for the bedroom on Saturday... WOO HOO

My employeer had a holiday party for us - which was very nice, and we also recived our annual cash bonus - I was very thankful for what I recieved! They also give us the 24th and 25th off PAID which is VERY nice!!!

we are very blessed - we both have fantastic jobs and but we both work extremely hard all year long!

Honestly with the way everything is now I think people need to be thankful they have a job and a home... spend the time with your loved ones and not worry about gifts and $$$$

I am sorry but that is a really doom and gloom way to look at it... would you rather work that day then have it off... its a benefit of the position to have a day off - I look at a free day off where you do not hav eto use vaction time to be paid as a HUGE holiday bonus... more time to spend with my family especially my little girl.. as I would much rather be with her then at work... and i still get paid for the day!!!

I got a 1000.00 dollars ( was a lot less after tax) and we had a Christmas party at a local restaurant. That's my career job. My other job gave us 10 dollar gas cards to a gas station that is not available in this part of our state.. the running joke is it would cost more then 10 dollars in gas to get to the gas station to use the 10 dollar gift card. lol

I am a SAHM, so I get hugs and kisses!

My DH works for a large company. They used to have a holiday party every year which would cost about half a mil but as you can imagine that didn't happen this year. Instead each department had a potluck lunch.

My DH's boss, a VP, gave him a $50 Williams Sonoma giftcard. My husband, a Director, in turn gave all of his managers a $50 GC to California Pizza Kitchen, a $15 GC to Starbucks to all of the other employees, chocolates for the administrative assistants of all of the VPs, and a big box of Godiva for his VP. Plus, I am baking cookies for all of them.

I am a teacher .. so nada of course. My wife is a mid-level manager. The company gives her $1000 bonus, but that comes down to $585 after taxes. She also gets 2 Xmas dinners paid for. One 4 hours away at the corp office for the manager-types, and one at the local office for the folks under the wife. Needless to say, I joke with my wife all the time that I chose the wrong profession since she is paid so well. When I am off with the kids in the summer, though, she says that SHE is the one that chose the wrong career path!

I got a $500 bonus and my husband $1250..taxes were not taken out. Both very generous!

I had a holiday party at a nice restaurants, but my husband's party was cut (which is fine since the bonus was very generous).

For Christmas, we give all employees - hourly, salaried, managerial:
. . . a ham
. . . a $50 Walmart gift card
. . . a profit sharing check to all employees (about 9% of their 2009 base salary)
. . . a substantial bonus check (only for those positions that are bonus eleigible)

EDIT: We do not do a Christmas party due to our 24/7 operations. However, departments are allowed to do pot-lucks if they wish. We do not contribute to these, as some departments just don't have enough manpower to throw one.

I work as a supervisor in county government, and for Christmas we get....Nuthin. Well, we do get Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day as paid holidays and I am very grateful for that. I actually do not mind that we do not get anything else, and I personally think it would be an inappropriate use of tax money. I, with my own personal money, pay to have a catered holiday lunch for my staff each year.

I'm a state employee, not a teacher, but like teachers, we are given Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day off. We get nothing else. We did get a nice Christmas email from our boss, that was all since he is a state employee also. It wouldn't be a prudent use of state funds to give us a gift.

I am very glad we get these holidays paid off. I know technically it is part of the benefits or pay package, but I think it is a big perk, unlike some on this thread.

While I see what you are saying, it is also possible for the district to have you come in any time during your contract period--for me it is September to June. While I have x number of days in my contract they can still choose to require me to be in school although students are not there. Unfortunately, my district has chosen to do this to us at Easter. The students get a 4 day weekend for Easter while the teachers get nothing. We will not be able to travel to see relatives because of this. We also started before labor day but the studnets did not return until after labor day. If administration wants they can still take away the time you've been conditioned to get so be cautious because the way things "always worked" may not be the way things "work now". I'll choose to be grateful for my time off, especially now that I see how easy it is to take it form me!

Ok I am going there!!! Flame suit on!!!

Seriously, teachers are complaining about not getting paid holidays off. You guys work 9 months out of the year. Get every single holiday off and in my area of the country you make between 40 to 50k a year!!!! Not too bad. Also, I know the teachers in my kids school gets tons and tons of gifts from their students. :confused3

I work 50 weeks a year got like 6 paid holidays and 40 hours a week.

My hospital gives us $50.00 per year of service if we have been good little nurses for xmas. If you had disciplinary action for being a bad nurse you get nothing.

Not to be R rated or anything, but I thought people had to pay EXTRA for naughty little bad nurses!!! :rotfl:

I work for a major department store chain, in a satellite office of about 75 people. I got:

- a bowling party for our whole office (This was a lot of fun, and we got paid for the full day even though we only worked until noon.)
- a party for our team of 15 people at my boss's house (nice of her to do)
- a $15 iTunes GC from my team's Secret Santa swap
- a $15 Starbucks GC from one of the managers on our team
- an ornament & a book for my DD from another manager on our team

Overall I'm just pleased to have a job with a stable company. I actually got a small raise earlier in the year - woohoo! The holiday celebrations are nice & the gifts I got were sweet & unexpected, but mostly I am thankful for my consistent paycheck every week!
