What does "Weekly" mean on the Points Calculator?

Hello,

DH and I are in the final stages of deciding to buy resale and are wondering what "weekly" means on the Points Calculator? Does it mean Sun-Sat? Sun-Thur? How many nights does "weekly" include?

Thanks! We would be buying a 110 pt contract and want to make sure it would cover our vacation habits.

If you add the points up for a weeklong stay (regardless of what day you check in) they add up to the weekly rate...which will not change. DVC can change daily point requirements (like make Fri-Sat one point higher for example, but they would have to adjust the weeknights so it still adds up to the weekly amount). Is that clear as mud?

The weekly points are for 7 consecutive nights. It could be a stay that starts on a Sunday night through Saturday night, or a stay that starts on a Tuesday night through the following Monday night, any seven consecutive nights.

So for example if you look at the chart for SSR in the month of January, a studio "costs" 11 points per night for each weekday night (Sun-Thu), and 20 points for each weekend night (Fri, Sat), so for a full 7 nights that would be 5 weekday nights at 11 points/night (55 points total), and 2 weekend nights at 20 points/night (40 points total), for a grand total of 95 points for a full 7 consecutive nights.

One quick note - DVC does not work like regular Disney resorts when a reservation spans "seasons." If you have a 7-day reservation where the first 3 days are in one season, and the last 4 days are in the next season, you don't just "pay" the weekly price from the first season. You "pay" the daily rate from the first season for the 3 days, and then the daily rate for the remaining days at the second season's rate.

You are correct about the weekly points being the total of seven consecutive nights, but if DVC decided to again reallocate the point charts, there is no requirement to have the weekly rate be the same.

DVC cannot change the total number of points at any of the resorts- but they may revise the charts to modify the points required for any given night. The total number of points required to stay at the resort for the year can't change so if some nights are raised - others must be lowered - regardless how that affects any given week, villa type or season.

The only time this has happened (at OKW in 1996) points were raised for weekday stays in Adventure season for most villa types- but were lowered for some weekend nights- especially the GV rates (which also saw weekday points lowered in some seasons, raised in others). Some nights were lowered, some were raised and most were not changed at all. The total for the year did not change.

Here is the DVC point chart for OKW from 1991 - 1995. In 1996, the current point chart began and is still valid at least thru 2006. The greatest changes were for Adventure Season, where all room types increased. All other seasons saw little or no change on weekdays, but larger decreases on weekends for all room types.
