What does this statement mean?

Well, I read back through some of this person's posts. They offer under $8 to buy points, then rent existing reservations for $14 a point when they can get it. It's got to be limited to how many transfers they can make a year, but they may have numerous accounts. Perhaps when a reservation is made with points they BOUGHT (vs. points they already own), it "costs" them more.

You can transfer points either in or out of your account as many times as you want (but only in the one direction). This person has points transferred into his account at a low price, then they turn around and make reservations with them at popular times, then puts them up for rent at a higher price (they could only rent reservations, not transfer points out) and makes a nice profit. You can't transfer an existing reservation into someone else's account, you would have to change the name on the reservation to the renters.

I wouldn't make it sound like it was a legitimate reason to charge a higher price. Again "forced" is not the world, this was likely intentionally planned.

The only possible explanations would be that they took in points from someone else, got a larger unit than usual (1 BR instead of studio for example), exchanged in through II or for BWV as noted, preferred view instead of standard. As noted, it's unlimited transfers in one direction. You can rent a reservation but not transfer points AND the reservation both.

There is a thread on the rent-trade board.

"VWL One Bedroom Villa Ressie - 12/11 - 12/18 "

$15 a point.

I am so glad I booked mine back in Jan. I feel so sorry for those of us who are not 100% sure of their vacations at the 11 month mark. Especially because you end up competing with a business.

Yeah I know, people have a right to do what they want with their points........... :o

This topic has certainly been debated long and hard on the Boards. I seem to recall a thread about this very issue, and one of the posters who rents for higher cost at premium times did post in a way so as "to defend himself." I am sorry I can't recall what the supposed explanation was. Perhaps the thread escalated into a debate and was closed or removed?

Any potential renter of points is warned ("Buyer beware") on the rent/trade board. There are no limits to what someone can ask in payment for a reservation but there is always common sense. Any of us can look at a possible transaction and say "no way I am going to be gouged." If you are in any way suspicious of the motives or history of someone you are thinking of renting from, you can certainly research that person's history on the Boards. You can do a search for that person's posts or just read the rent/trade board regularly. Then you can make up your mind about a member "forced" to charge unusally high prices.
