This may seem like a sophomoric question, but what do the guides do for you? We just purchased and I have talked to my guide but haven't figured out exactly what they do.

Thanks!

They are your sales person basically. They are who you call when you want to buy more points.

Most guides (or at least mine) do nothing at all. I have bought in 1999, and add on in 2000, and NEVER heard from him since 2000. So those people that have a guide that sends them cards, calls, etc, consider yourself lucky!!!!

I even called my guide in 2002 to say hi, and we were at DVC, and he never called back or even said boo! So, I say they are sales persons. I even hear from the guy I bought a car back in 2002 more than my DVC guide!!! STRANGE, but true!!

It is true, the basic function of the guide is to "guide you through your DVC purchase", answer any questions you may have at time of purchase, assist with add ons, everything that has to do with your initial purchase. Some guides keep in touch with their clients/guests but sales is their duty within DVC.

For all other DVC functions you will deal with the Member Services call center or Member Accounting.

We have called our guide with a last minute cancellation. he helped us greatly with it (member services wasn't open). He helps with add-ons and member referrals. He can tell you what's going on with DVC lately. Call with problmes. If he can't help, he'll tell you who can/ Our guige is Gib McCain and he has been very helpful all along.

Our Guide is Gib and he was excellent in helping us getting our first reservation when we joined DVC.

Mostly, the guide enjoys the best job in the timeshare industry and cashes their outrageous checks!

They make good money and they make Disney a ton of money.

They should be there to support you. We had so many issues in the first few months that we told our guide that we wanted Disney to buy it back. Wow. Talk about a fast response (helps when you live close and know a few high ranking Disney employees..) If we had been brought through the program properly by the guide (who is no longer there) we would have been fine, but what did we know then! Happy now, but use the program very differntly than most of you do (we live so close that we hear the fireworks every night), but still like to stay on property, as well as Vero.

What does a guide do?

I guess that depends on your guide. Mine keeps in touch to see if I need any add ons. I always get a phone message from him saying "welcome home" at my resort on all my trips. He's helpful with DVC questions. I even met him last trip and he bought me a drink :goodvibes So my DVC guide is a friend as well as a salesperson.
