What does Spirit Air charge to assign seats?

I did a search and saw people mentioning the seat charge but no one ever said how much it was. We're considering flying Spirit to Orlando in Dec. but since we'll have a 5 year old and a lap baby I'm not taking the chance that we won't be able to sit together - it is a stress I don't need - but want to take the cost of picking a seat into our overall price consideration. Can anyone help me out?

I just booked Spirit, and had NO idea that their fees were so high. $19 for the first checked bag, gasp. I skipped that, and then saw the seat fees. I was used to airlines that charge for "better" seats, not ALL seats! But the fees varied. I think from $8-20?? $20 for exit row, and the front several rows? I forget exactly. $8 was for the back, and it is per seat, each way I think. I did not pay. I may go back, I was just too bummed. I am flying with my adult handicapped son, and I think we will be seated together. Otherwise, good luck to the person sitting next to him, he is non verbal pretty much, but is great on planes.....

We pre-board, so I think we will be fine.

If you need to sit with your son, you should pay. That isn't nice or fair to not pay and then say, "good luck to the person sitting next to him".

I just booked with Spirit and I payed $8.00 per seat. Our seats are in the middle towards the back of the plane. After you purchase the airfare the next screen will take you to baggage which is $19 1st bag per customer.After baggage it will take you to assign seating the seats are color coded the red seats toward the back are $8.00 the seats upfront are more money. Their fees are a couple dollars more than Airtran which is $15.00 1st bag and $6 or $8 per seat. Hope this helps you and have a great trip!
