Just curious. I saw a 1200 point contract for sale on Fidelity and thought, what do they with that many points in Hawaii? Do they stay like three months at a time, lol.

Grand Villa... would love to rent it for a week one day for the whole family. Toured it while we were at Aulani last and.. .wow.

We had more than 1200 during most of our tenure in DVC.
We reserved grand villas most every year (whether we needed them or not), invited family and friends, took three trips a year, (usually two-10 day trips and a four day), and sometimes really splurged.... leaving on an evening flight home and don’t want to checkout by 11:00..??? Book an extra night. Also can be done if arriving and don’t want to wait for a room (coordination required on this one).
Various options available, but never rented a single point.

Yes a person could spend several weeks at WDW with that many points in a one bedroom or larger. They could also share with family and friends, with accommodations in grand villas. We did one family trip that required a grand villa and a two bedroom, it adds up.

Last year we spent two weeks at WDW, and one week at Vero Beach. Our DD and family joined us for the first week at WDW in a two bedroom. If I had 1200 pts I could have stayed in the room I was in and not a studio, that was a hard downgrade but we managed. LOL poor me. ;)

I could see many ways to spend that many points without renting. The downside is I don't really want to pay the dues on 1200 pts (I guess that's were renting comes in).

The details say it's for a fixed week #31. So I'm guessing it's an OV Grand Villa.

EDIT: my initial math was based off the wrong weeks so not sure if Aulani has changed point charts or not since this was originally purchased. It looks like that same week now in an OV GV would be 1288 points plus the extra percentage they charge for a fixed week. NO matter what it actually is that's a whole lotta points!

In years past, when the family was younger and easier to “corral,” our family would pool our timeshare together to book multiple large units and vacation together. We’d often book a single large unit (3BR and 4BR) supported by a number of smaller units (studio, 1BR or 2BR) to house everyone comfortably. The large unit became “the gathering place” and the other units allowed privacy for each household.

It's very easy indeed to spend 1200 points. A more pertinent question is why the owners' DVC guide did not encourage the purchaser to break it up into smaller contracts to make any possible resale easier.
I don’t think a fixed week contract could be broken up into smaller contracts.

Some great ideas and info on here. I guess those with fixed weeks don't have to worry about the tighter availability in the future. Sounds as though those type contracts might just get a boost in sales in the future?

I’d spend about 3 months in a OKW studio with that many points. There are some people who have 8,000 points, that’s the maximum DVC allows a couple to own.

I'd go nuts spending such a long time in such a small space.
Unless, perhaps, I had a fun job at the ranch playing with the horses?

At one time, we had 850 points, and no problems using them every year. This was when our kids were younger and we would take them to Disney for 2 or 3 weeks per year and stay in 1 or 2 bedroom villas. It was great.

As they got older, we didn’t go as much and sold half our points!

We have over 1200 points at various resorts and still end up borrowing, Or Transferring among contracts. we go to aulani for 10 days every year in a one bedroom ocean view, DW in March for two weeks in a one bedroom, vero beach for 5 or 6 days a year for spring baseball, sometimes a week after thanksgiving. We never get less than a one bedroom. We give some points to friends and family, we have never even considered renting,
