What does "shorty" mean?? SLANG for....

I think I'm pretty hip on slang words, but I'd like to know if I'm right about this one. Been listening to my son's "Usher" CD....and he calls girls "shorty" alot. I'm guessing it means "cutie"??? Does anyone know if I'm right, or does it mean something totally different?

it's not necessarily an "i'm attracted to you" thing. it's just a general term of endearment. one of the people i work with calls a bunch of us "shorty" all the time, and i'm pretty sure it's not because she's attracted to us.

Some of todays slang is downright ignorant. People calling each other dirty, shorty, boo, playa. I'd slap somebody if they called me dirty.

Oh my gosh!!! I told my two teens a couple of weeks ago that I was a "hip and happening chick"......... my daughter informed me that maybe I was in the 70s or 80s - but those terms were definitely outdated!!
