What does Salmon taste like and Where's the Best At WDW???

I can't describe the flavor of salmon, but it's one of my absolute favorite foods. The best I've had in WDW was at The Hollywood Brown Derby. The worst was Le Cellier... sorry to those who love it, but the salmon I had at Le Cellier had absolutely no flavor, the entire dish was the blandest thing I think I've ever had. A bowl of plain rice would've been more flavorful... seriously. I would not recommend tasting salmon at one of the buffets and then basing your opinion on it. I always hear about how good the salmon is at Crystal Palace, well, I just tried it and thought it was pretty bad - it was overseasoned, salty and dry. However, for some reason I've had good luck with the salmon at Sunshine Seasons - go figure!

If you want a truly amazing fish meal... go to Kona Cafe and order the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi. It is fabulous!!!

Well Since I'm going to Kona also... I may take you up on it!!! (that is if I can get past my overdosing on the macadamia nut pancakes at breakfast!!!)

The taste all depends on what variety of salmon you are talking about and how it is prepared. QUOTE]

So true.

I don't enjoy your run of the mill variety salmon that you get in middle America, however, I can't get enough of Copper River Salmon. Rule of thumb: If the menu says the type of salmon it is, it's probably going to be a good experience. If it just says 'salmon' then it's probably best to stay away.

I had an excellent piece of salmon at Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch on 9/27. Here's a pic and the menu description of it:

Fresh from the Harbor - cider-cured salmon on griddled pumpkin bread, spaghetti squash, and fresh field greens with butternut squash vinaigrette.

It was very yummy and quite filling, although I did manage to save room for dessert:

Caramel Apple Tart - shortbread crust, sugared apples, and cinnamon ice cream.

I heard that you can sometimes get the copper river kind at Artist Point?

My dd loves salmon. We had some very good salmon at Cape May Cafe'. popcorn::

If it is cooked correctly it will just melt in your mouth. I personally cannot make it right at home but the best I ever had was at Flyin Fish at the Boardwalk. It was incredible!

If it is in season, I am sure they'll have some.

I am not a huge salmon fan. It can be too oily for me. I don't want to continue tasting it well after my meal.

I prefer it sashimi style, but that is another thread.

We went last month and I had the salmon at Seasons in the Land as well as at World Premiere Food Court at All Star Movies. I have to say that World Premiere's salmon was cooked much better and was a tastier piece of salmon than Seasons. The fish at Seasons was overcooked, tough, and very dry whereas at World Premiere, it was smooth, fork-tender, and very flavorful. It was quite delicious.

I can't describe how it tastes, but i will say I LOVE Salmon. On our last trip I had it three times, at Artist Point and Chef Mickeys, but the best version I had was at Akershus on the last day of our trip. It was lunch and I had the "Jarlsberg cheese and leek soup paired with pan-seared salmon served open-faced on toasted multigrain bread, lettuce, tomato and topped with a roasted garlic caper mayonnaise." It was awsome, the best salmon I have ever had, and other than desert, it is probably my favorite food, I had it for dinner tonight as a matter of fact. The server asked how my meal was and I told her it was the best meal I had all week, she then told me that the salmon they use is flown in from Norway. It was AWESOME!! The soup was really good too!

Does the wild vs. farm-raised variety make a significant difference. Anywhere at WDW serve wild?

Yes, it does make a difference. imo a wild, pacific salmon has a much cleaner and more buttery taste than farm-raised of any variety. I don't think that Copper River is farmed (I could be wrong, though), and apparently they serve that at Artists Point. Copper River is the best salmon in many people's opinion. In fact, it has a cult like status in the Seattle area, headlines are made when they start coming in. There's a new salmon from another river in either Alaska, B.C., or the western Norther Territory (can't remember exactly where, though) that is supposed to be superior to the Copper River. Alot of it has to do with fat content...the fattier the better.
