What does priority seating really mean?

That you can make ressie's at some restaurants prior to arrival only? What if you stop for lunch at a 'selected' restaurant while at the parks?--any impact?

Here is the written explanation for Restaurant Priority Seating. This is off the Guest Entitlements sheet.

Present your room key for priority seating privileges at full service restaurants in City Walk, Universal Studios and IOA. Priority seating is NOT available on Friday and Saturday evenings or when venue is booked for special events, performances and holidays. Please note: Emerils and restaurants inside Hard Rock, Royal Pacific and Portofino Bay hotels require advance reservations.

Sometimes this perk really saves you a wait, sometimes it doesnt. It's always worth it to try! If they are very crowded your name will go on a list with other people that have priority seating and they will seat you in that order.

We knew that we needed reservations at both of Emeril's (we already made reservations) but didn't know what it meant for the other restaurants in citywalk and the parks. It sounds as if you would have priority over non-resort guests that are on a waiting list and that seems reasonable to me!

We didn't want to strap ourselves with a strict itinerary, but we prefer full service dining. We were hoping to try mythos, Latin Quarter and Margaritaville and didn't want the surprise of them being booked solid for all 7 days that we're there.

WE were just there last week and used priorty seating just about everynight. We did not make any ressie prior to going and were able to get into every place we wanted to eat. We did eat lunch at Emeril's at City Walk and Tchop-Chop we had dinner. THe concierge made the ressis for us once we were there. When we used priorty seating even with a party of 8 and at times 12 we never waited for more than 30 min when the regular wait was 90 min. This was during the week and we were not there on the weekend. I think you will find that it is a great perk. You just can not expect to get seat right away.
