What does it feel like to get old?

watching Jeopardy and playing along....really sucks as you grow older. because for the first time you know all the answers...you just can't recall them fast enough or correctly, you can say parts of the answer but not the full answer. Trivial memory disappears.....and you will cry when you discover it is disappearing....eventually you will stop watching...keep on walking, eating veggies, reading the paper, cheating on the crossword puzzle, playing cards....but no more slam dunking the jeopdary responses.....I see this in me now at 65 and my 80 neighbor who no longer plays along with the TV show...it becomes scary when the answer is just right there, right there at the tip of the tongue.....becoming invisible

In my retirement community walking is grand but gaming not so much.

Oooh. The contact thing hurts. I've worn them for 30 years. I sleep with them in. But, have you noticed they've gotten flimsy? I should mention I've developed an astigmatism.

I've become crotchety.

I have worn contacts for 35 years, I don't wear glasses in public. I used to sleep with my contacts in, but after I tried to get Lasik in 2009 (had to go 3 months without contacts) and I heard the term "corneal warpage" and could not get the surgery I started taking them out every night.

I developed an astigmatism too. Happened about 5 years ago. I wear Toric lenses now and I find I am more sensitive to dry eye with them. Not sure if that is age related or quality of the contacts. My guess, it's the former. :(

This is the best response ever! I bought Jep for XBOX for my wife and we watch it all the time. I could SNAP off answers. The brain fades. I used to be able to write 30 page papers.

This is going to get a little dark. I'm excited by the responses because I'm happy that I'm not alone. But, it's a little sad because you're all talking about grandkids and my wife is 34 and I'm 44. I think the time has passed to even have kids. But one can always live through others :)

30 page papers on wnat subject.?? I am writing a 5 page essay on easter in the BAJA wilderness in my backyard..right now...coming in here for air..wife took away the printer....so I type, then handwrite out the paper, then go to the library lab and re type....I know...flashdrive...but that is the beauty of saving the brain...making the burn

Ph.d. in criminology. Policy, Theory, Juvenile Justice, parricide a lot of different things. You must be a BA student. Gear up and get ready if you want an MA or PHD! :)

OH... Good luck on your paper. There's only one rule: Just write. Google scholar.

I was too lazy to earn my literature masters, but was fun taking the grad writing classes and lit classes, espcially when i was older renewing my teaching license with all those young college students....I was always the first to respond to the prof question...no fear here. I love to write, as Eric Liddel ran, so do I write, it pours out of me so naturally....which is wife took away the printer....chores would not get done. I did help my bro in law write Juvenile justice papers. we both worked at state hosptial, he as unit staff, I as teacher for ten years. He went on to state level head bureaucrat lights....I getting high in my taxi

You can knock this paper out in 2 hours if you just put your head down and research and write.

I am turning 50 along with WDW this year. (Old tween mom!) please tag me if you start a thread for us turning 50s peeps and everyone can place us in a fishbowl to study. Lol!
Anyway for me it meant going on a diet to be at a healthy weight and getting energy back. I also don’t give a rip about what others think almost always like I used to and there is a lot of clarity about your choices. Also there is a lot of hope. Like if hard things come, I’ll be ok cause I survived a lot of crazy stuff already. And finally you have a good support network or not afraid to build one whereever you go.

Cowboy up and tell your wife you want the printer back. You can't walk before you crawl and can't run before you walk. If you enjoy writing, then write.

Unfortunately , that is what my father told me when I complained one day as an 8 year old complaing about my walk on LaFerney Road every day in Joshua Tree , Californina every day after school...put your head down and you can knock out the grueling walk....so I day dreamed instead of Dick and Jane and their green trees along my cactus, Disneyland and the rest of the world. I have no effort, never did until the antique business, can write volumes on that venture.....but Captain Ahab and his theoretical responses to empty parking spaces at STarbucks....I think not!!!

I am 47 and recently I am freaking out as when I see people from High School on FB, they all look so old now.. and then I got dang.. does that mean I look different too? I notice by a few there was a big change on how they look from 40 to now.

Worse for me is as I get older, many I love my mom etc.. are getting really old and that scares me.

I recently went through an experience and when my mother saw me she said "I can't believe how much younger you look." Aging happens, and is SOMEWHAT reversible, but we all get older. Time is time and there is no control over that.

I, personally HATE the way I look on FaceTime and Zoom and other things. I look like I'm balding with a pretty dried up face. But, I've decided to make changes. For most of my life, I've had a high and tight. I'm going to grow out the top of my hair (to a reasonable degree). I'll keep the sides and back "tight." But, yeah, there are things you can do to look and stay young.

OK... I can buy the pantry/fridge story. I've put my car keys in the fridge. But I'm calling shenanigans on underwear. Even I know when I'm wearing underwear :)
no shenanigans....and I don't know if my husband thinks i am losing it or not.

I actually think I have aged better than several of my classmates. Thanks to hair dye of course. I am not one to go gray gracefully-----I am not blessed with the genes that comes with beautiful gray, white or salt and pepper hightlights. Nope, I get patches at the roots. I have switched to esalon since covid (saving $$$$) but I do have to touch up every 4 weeks.

“Aging is for idiots.” I’m almost 59 and kicking butt! Exercise hard. Eat right. Own your health and outlook on life.
Don't get to confident about that. I don't really want to burst your bubble, but 59 is not old. I was in great health until I turned 67 and since then I have had prostate cancer, two cataract surgeries, serious lower back problems that forced inactivity for a year plus, two kidney stones, a bout of sepsis, and the most recent was the need for a pace maker. That's not even to mention that new mystery pain that I wake up with every morning. It catches up. Even the healthiest, most active of the elderly, have a group of hidden things happening that we don't tell anyone about. Every new thing has a honeymoon time to clear itself up before we seek medical advice. I'm still more active now then most of the 73 year old's that I know, but it takes more and more effort everyday to keep up appearances. When we drop we drop quickly. Just don't give up. :scratchin :crutches:
