What does it feel like to get old?

I'm only 44 but my vision is going, my hearing isn't so great. I'm losing muscle.

Now I know why people at my old job became LT's at this age. I couldn't efficiently operate a cruiser at 125 MPH now. They're all barracks commanders.

Huh. I’ll be 50 this year along with Disney World and feel like I’m just reaching my prime. I have wisdom on my side, have my accomplishments, and expertise in certain areas. I have an impressive collection of memories. My life isn’t half empty, it’s half full. Hey, I should put that on a t-shirt.

I love this and feel just like you!
I am also turning 50 this year.

I‘ve had my share of medical issues in the last 10 years that would slow many people down, but I’m fighting hard to not let that happen to me. I’ve been very disciplined and organized with doctors to keep everything in check, I’m working out on a regular basis to keep me feeling good mentally and physically, I keep myself busy to keep my mind sharp, and other things - I don’t want to let myself go. My grandma, the person I looked up to more than anyone, never let herself go. She had so many aches, pains and medical issues and no one outside the family knew. She carried herself like a million bucks all the time and I will live my life like her until I die.

I will be 70 years old in June. I won’t lie - it’s a pretty big milestone Birthday. There is no other way to spin it - I’m old. I had a very serious heart attack 11 years ago, but I’m doing fine now (knock on wood). I’ve gained some weight during the Pandemic and am struggling to get a handle on that.

Otherwise, I feel good. The hardest part about the last year has been the feeling that the clock is ticking and time is being wasted. I had trips planned to Las Vegas, New York City, Disney World and a cruise. Of course, none of that happened. Time wasted. Hate that.

Getting old is not for the faint of heart, but I am trying to embrace it. 😁

I’m 43. I don’t feel old, but I do feel tired. I think that’s just my life though and not my age. It takes a lot of effort and energy to do everything like eat well, exercise, drive kids all over creation to activities while helping them manage hybrid school and working full time at the same time. I definitely could get away with less sleep 20 years ago - I also only had to worry about myself then. Now if I don’t get enough sleep then I get irritable ....and start to feel a little like I could turn into Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

There you have it!

Unfortunately, the body doesn't rejuvenate itself so time, effort and dedication is important. AND HARD!!!
I'm not great at any of it but I consistently try to be health conscious.

My mind is of a much younger person, not the body.

Ha... My T shirt saying is "The glass is not half full or half empty. It's broken." Does that make me a pessimist? :)

I was in a big accident in 2018 and had a long road to recovery. Now it seems like there was a pre-2018 me and a post-2018 me that's older and different, like I turned into my uncle or something. It may have been the accident or it might have happened, anyway.

So totally agree with this. DH and I are both 68. I retired 2 years ago and he retired last spring; part planned, part COVID. We are supposed to be traveling and eating out in retirement and here we sit.

Life is just more noisy when you get old. More creaking, cracking, groaning.... :rotfl2:

YES!! My ankles and knees crack, I notice I'm groaning when I sit down and get in and out of the car, my wife's sedan, especially, but even my Avalanche which is a big truck. But, I have to be honest... I kind of feel like these things are badges of honor. I made it this far. When I was 19, I didn't think I was going to make it to 21. At 21 I didn't think I'd make it to 30. Now, I'm just holding on for 50 so that my wife is forced to throw me a big surprise party and get me a bunch of expensive gifts.

Also, I've noticed that my tastes with age have changed. I actually got a haircut for the first time since 2010 last week (I always cut my own hair). And, for the first time, I got a shave. I also have developed an affinity for watches. By the way, if you are ever in Zephyrhills, FL (which I pray to God your are not, for your own sake), I have a great suggestion for a barbershop that is an incredible place to use as a date location for you and the significant.
