What does everyone do the day they switch resorts on a split stay reservation?

I’m trying to figure out what we should do. We are doing a split between CBR/CCV. Our day to change resorts is on a Wednesday. I was thinking MK in the morning before check in. Check in is at 4:00. We would like to have some time to enjoy the CCV resort the first day.
I hate to waste a park ticket on a half a day. Then again I hate to not go to a park on Wednesday since it is one of the lowest crowded days of the week.
if we go to MK another day we would have to buy a 1 day ticket. Right now we have a 4 park magic ticket which is entry to each of the 4 parks once.
What would you do and what do you usually do on the day you change resorts?

We are going to Disney springs for brunch at homecoming and then taking the bus to our new resort from there. I plan on that day being a Disney springs/swim/explore the new resort day

We have always went to whatever park closes latest after checking into the new resort, but closing times are a lot earlier now than the last time we have a split stay (sometimes 1am at MK with EMH). We go to the next resort as soon as we check out just in case they are able to have our room ready early. We have also gone to DTD if we are staying more nights than we have in park tickets (ex: 10-day park tix with 14-night stay).

Yes I wish MK was open late. That would be great to go at night. It would work out perfectly.

We do split stays every trip, pre-Covid this is what we did. Note: we drive down so have a car. I pack two suitcases, one for each stay and have a smaller carryon for the things that go to both resorts - laptop, kindle, hanging toiletry bag, etc. Since I have a car I don't have to take both bags out. My son just packs one bag and never unpacks, just live out of it. On move day, we get up at our regular time, which is normally fairly early, have breakfast and go ahead and check out. Sometimes I can call down to the front desk, sometimes I have to go down and physically check out. We go ahead and go to resort #2 and check in. This is usually either before the parks open or pretty near to open. If the room isn't ready, I store the bags with bell services, park the car and head on to a park. If the room is ready, we go ahead and take the bags to the room and head to a park. Depending on our mood, what we are doing and if we are ready to leave the park, we may or may not go to the room when we get the room ready text. We just go when we are ready. We loose no time in the parks on move day.

Will bell services transfer your luggage from one resort to the next? We're planning a split DVC stay (which we've never done before).

Can we give our luggage/stuff to bell services on checkout day and tell them which resort we are checking into later that day so that it gets delivered there?

Thanks.

Dan

We usually do a split stay between a Skyliner/Epcot resort and an MK resort to take advantage of not having to take busses to all the parks. For that reason we pretty much always do AK on the day when we switch. We just drop our bags with bell services to be transferred on our way to the bus. We go early enough to make rope drop, then we head to the new resort when we're done at the park for day. Because AK closes earlier and we typically don't find we need a full day there, it usually leaves us with some time to enjoy the new resort and our room is always ready by the time we arrive.

I also do what another poster said and pack 1 suitcase for the first resort and 1 suitcase for the second resort. We're light travelers, so both just carry-on sized.

We do split stays every trip. I find it easiest to be in a park on transfer day since I don’t have a room from 11am-4pm. Id rather enjoy resort time when I have a room to be home base (so not transfer day). We usually get bell service to transfer our luggage (DVC) and never had any problems. The last two times we drove due to the pandemic so it was even easier to just leave stuff in the car.

We are going to a water park and getting a polar patio with a locker to store our valuables since we won’t have a room safe.

Yes you treat it just like you would if you were heading home but just tell them your next resort. We usually bring our swimsuits in a backpack, hit a morning park and then head to the new resort and hang out at the pool until our room is ready. We love split stay on trip of 7 or more days as it makes it seem like 2 vacations in some respects.

Our moving day is on a Saturday and I try to avoid the parks on Saturday (so busy). We are planning to have breakfast and then spend the day lounging around the pool, before switching over to the next resort.

Having said that, if we were changing resorts during the week, we’d definitely be doing a park day instead.

Agree with others that if Wednesday was my transfer day, I would for sure do a park. We have a split stay in April and Friday is our transfer day from ASMo to BRV. We have a late breakfast scheduled at The Wave, then moving to BRV to enjoy the pool and walk the resort. Finally, early dinner at Raglan Road (hopefully before Disney Springs gets super crowded for the evening).

yes, they will transfer your luggage. We did this in December 2020. It wasn't technically a split stay. We spend one night at Coronado before transferring to our DVC at Boardwalk the next day. We just had all our luggage ready before we got up the next morning to rope drop at MK. So we didn't miss any time at the parks. (We usually have an afternoon break anyway, so we just headed to Boardwalk when we were ready for our break) We had a rental car but you could easily do this by using Disney transport I would think?

We are making ours a pool day/rest day at the second resort. Breakfast at first resort, then head over to new resort and swim. Will have all our pool stuff separate and with us.

This is similar to what we do. We have often been very surprised to find out a room is ready, we were in our room once at 5:30am! (back when DHS was having EEMH) I have even done things like let the wife and kids (and grandparents, etc,) head to park without me, and I'll make the move and catch up with them.

Precovid split stay we checked out early, had luggage transferred to next resort, and hit the parks until our rooms were ready. I don't travel with much cash or many valuables so I had no concerns. I suppose Covid split stay would be similar with maybe an earlier start to maximize park time. Disney transferred luggage from Pop Century cash stay to Beach Club David rental points stay with no problem.

We hit a park at RD. But when we hit a park we like to do a midday break by the pool or in our room. The last two times our room wasn’t ready until after 3. We do the parks bagless so carrying swimsuits and pool stuff doesn’t work for us. We also despise changing in the lockers so that’s not happening. So no pool break on moving day for us. And since the room wasn’t ready we found other places to rest a bit but it annoyed us.

Next trip it’ll just be myself and DD. I won’t be doing a split stay. When my SO and I go alone we may do a split stay but I will make moving day a relaxing day. Wake up late, check out at exactly 11 am, hit a park or go to an ADR. But with my luck that’ll be the one time the room is ready early. :rotfl:

We switched between BLT for MK and BWV for Epcot/DHS. We took the bags and cold grocery items to bell services that morning for transfer and hit the park. The My Disney Experience app let us know when the room was ready which was about the time we were ready for a pool break.

You might want to save MK for the next day and do either HS or Epcot on your moving day as they can be accessed easily by the gondola system from CBR. Once you are at CCV the only park you can arrive at directly by boat is MK - all the rest will be heavy bus time.
