If you are having housework done, and they say they will be done "By Friday" in the contract, do you assume that means that they will be finished on Thursday evening, or finished by the end of Friday evening?

We're having housework done starting Tuesday with the promise of being completed "By Friday".

I would take that to mean done by Friday end of business day.

See, it's a very grey area to me. If they planned on completing the job on Friday, why didn't they say "ON Friday"? The way I see it, it can be interpreted either way, and they are covered if they go into Friday.

I agree.. They may surprise you and be done Thursday night - or Friday morning - but it's good business on their part to leave themselves a little "wiggle" room in case they run into a problem..:goodvibes

Great minds think alike, C.Ann! This was my thinking!!!

By the end of Friday, Heck I guess that technically is 11:59 PM Friday.

Contractor work on your house, "done by Friday" usually means it will be done 3 weeks from Wednesday :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Really, I would say by end of day Friday to allow for unforeseen issues.

Did you ask them to clarify?

I wouldn't doubt it!

My HUSBAND did not. I would have...

I don't care, really. I just thought it would give me a better idea of how much sitting around I will be doing this week! ;)

did they say what friday of what month and what year?:rotfl: and are they doing all the work themselves or using subs?

if they are using subs you might want to find out if they are just saying that the part of the job THEY are doing will be done 'by friday', but the subs part will get done when it gets done (been there-drywall sub, electrical sub, painter sub...all on their own odd timelines).

:lmao: unfortunately I completely agree with this

Friday evening. 11:59 pm perhaps, but more realistically CoB on Friday.

Well, that might be interpreted as they will positively do all the work on Friday. The way they said it, as long as they're done by the end of the day on Friday, they're good.

Thankfully, although I am sure it doesn't matter, THE Friday is date specific ;)

Unfortunately, we have THREE subcontractors, "The Siding Guy", "The Gutter Guy", and "The Stone Guy".

Now you are all making me nervous...
