the heighten alert? I know that a lot of it is behind the scenes stuff that we don't know about and probably don't want to know about, but do they do security any differently?

Hey Suz~ I was wondering the same thing. I saw the news last night and mentioned it to Jacqui... Being a Mom, I'm the worrier, she's not...

I just can't imagine WHY anyone would want to "eliminate our way of life" and would attack us because of the way we live??? I don't understand the reasoning behind it. I can't imagine bombing buses and embassies. Yes, we do have problems in the United States, we're not perfect... we don't always agree with everyone's politics and we don't always agree with the way our country is run, but that's why we're a democracy, that's why we live here, that's why I appreciate our Armed Forces protecting us. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I'm prepared to have all my luggage checked (I have those zip lock bags ready) ... I'm prepared to have my carry on pulled apart. Although I'm going out of PVD, which is a smaller airport, I'm prepared for longer security lines. And I welcome all of these security measures whether I see them or not. Yes, I am apprehensive to fly since September 11th, but I won't NOT go because of those lunatics.

Oh, I'm sorry, back to the original question!

We cruised at the end of September, right after the 9/11 incident. What I could see differently on that cruise was that there was a dog sniffing us and our belongings as we went thru security at boarding. There was a sign up saying please don't pet the dog and asking parents to prevent their children from approaching the dog. I made a remark to the handler about my prescription drugs, and was told that he was an explosive dog, not a drug dog. He also said that all luggage handled by the porters was being "sniffed."

They also became a lot more strict about picture IDs to re-board the ship, even at Castaway, and seemed to be more intently studying the luggage in the scanner.

Those are the only differences I could tell, although I'm sure there was more "behing the scenes."

Interestingly, on our last cruise, the dog was not there at boarding.

When we went on the Wonder in Sept. 2002, they had scuba divers checking the ship under water..... we could see them from our verandah. They also had a police boat cruising the port, which would not allow any boats near the cruise ships.

Not sure what they're doing now, but I would have to guess that it's probably the same, if not more.

I would like to here from someone on the Magic or Wonder now, to hear what was done differently.
I always wonder if some of the "workers" wearing the white jumpsuits are actually security watching for anything unusual.

There was a dog sniffing luggage when we dropped off our bags on Dec. 13. They had the luggage lined up outside and would not take it into the terminal until it had been "cleared" by the dog.

We just got back on Sat. Security is pretty tight to begin with. I cant imagine making anymore changes. They are strict about ID's, parking, who and where you are being dropped off etc.
If you are flying in, there might be some longer lines there.
Have fun!

We also had the sniffing dogs for our July 2002 cruise, but not for our cruises in March 2003 nor July 2003. We aren't flying, so that won't be a problem. Just curious that's all.

hey Suzie~
they took Bri's picture away... guess it was too big???

Every time I have taken my scuba diving bag , it has been opened and looked through by DCL security somewhere between the portside drop off and our cabin . The first time they cut the lock off , now I just use nylon tie wraps .

Suzie: You bad girl ! 2 lashes with a wet spaghetti noodle for not complying with DISboard signature rules . How did you get by with such a crime for so long.......LOL !

I guess it's b/c we were so cute. :p Don't know what the problem was. I think it had to do with bytes or something, b/c the dimensions were fine. I'll fix it after my cruise. :jester:

there's Momma's little girl~ what a great picture of you two gorgeous girls!!!
