DH and I are going to WDW 3/12-3/17, POFQ; me for the first time, and him for the second. We don't have any kids; who needs them when we're such big kids ourselves?? :jester:

But I'm a little self-conscious about the characters! I mean, will Cindy think I'm weird when I scream, clap my hands, and do the "happy hop" when I see her? I am, after all, will be 3 wks shy of 30! And will Mary Poppins be offended (least of all my DH) when I ask Bert to marry me?

We've booked the character bkfst at 1900 PF and people say to not be afraid to do it, even if you don't have kids. Do the characters interact well with adults? What should I expect? Do I just have to NOT be shy??

BTW, I'll be thinking of a friend of mine the whole time: He is a WICKEDLY funny person that can make you pee with laughing so hard but the ONE thing that cracks HIM up is people dressed up like animals fighting. Go figure. One year for his b-day, a couple of us dressed up in suits and fought for him!!!

ugh....horrible grammar.......and I forgot to sign

"I will, after all be 3 wks shy of 30!!"

!

Yes, they do! I was just there and Geppetto (sp?) was awesome with everyone, especially us adults that were alone. He wanted to dance with everyone. This was at the Epcot character bus thingy. Anyway, go for it, don't be afraid or embarrassed about it. I go up alone all the time, as my dd is afraid of them.

lol no, Cindy wont freak LOL .... I get so excited when we see them lol, my DD looks at me like "ok MOM" geesh .... clap, dance, jump, it'll be ok.... and have a blast!

I have a feeling it makes their day to see adults get excited to see them..sometimes we get more excited than the kids ;)

If there was ever a place on the earth where it's not only ok to be a kid at heart, it's expected..it's Disney! Don't worry about it at all...just go and have a great time..with all of the characters!

I have a cousin who is a character and he assures me that they love those who are young and those who are young at heart! He said that as performers, they really enjoy enthusiasm and energy from guests...so don't be afraid! Just go have fun! That's what you're going for!

Well Disney iss for kids of all ages. And they mean it. My Dh took me for my 40th birthday. Got a birthdya button and wore it proudly at MK. Donald Duck came by in the parade and saw it was my birthday and dance with me. Mary Pooins wished me happy birthday. Cinderalla called me a princess. i am just a big kid at heart when I am at Disney i forget how old I am. I love meeting the characters and we always make sure we go to a character dinner. Don't worry just enjoy.

Hey wasabi girl nice to see fellow carolinians....I live in the Charleston area....

anyway....I find that the characters even try to get the adults involved....I have had encounters with Minnie, Donald, Goofy, tigger, and Pluto...I was just sitting enjoying watching my kids involvment when next thing I know they are messing up my hair, covering my eyes just silly stuff....they seem to like getting adults involved...Its easy to get kids excited but if they can put a smile on a wore out parent then they know they are good....

You will just turn into a kid again and start hugging them LOL

It is hilarious how it makes you feel young again.. good fun :)

As said in the previous post, just relax and have fun. When we were at Disney in Sept, we had a blast with the characters, especially Chip & Dale (Chip is a ladys man, or chipmunk), Stitch is always a riot and especially Pluto @ Garden Grill.
If you have fun and interact with them, they'll make you laugh, they have fun with us "big kids"!!! :earboy2:

My husband and I also have no kids and love to interact with the characters at the parks. I have a whole photo album full of just character photos and I'm determined to get my picture taken with each and every one of them! We have never had a bad experience, and I agree with all of the other posters that the characters are always friendly and fun!

That said, we have not done a character meal yet! Thanks to all the encouragment here on the boards, it's on my list of things to do this year!

I'll just add when I was browsing in the store in Epcot England, and almost backed into Mary Poppins, I litarly started crying - I was so excited, I couldnt believe it MARY POPPINS!! (dd 8 just rolled her eyes as I pushed dd into getting an autograph, and I chatted with the CM while taking the pic of DD, and the next thing I knew the CM said it was my turn with Mary, and dh had wandered in to see... and I got my pic with Mary Poppins, I was embarrassed looking over at the line, and the CM said, "no this is your moment"!!

What a memory!!

I have to admit Disney has a way of making us all kids at heart - I love Disney World and I don't have any kids (yet) I get SOOOOOO excited when I see some of the charactors - especially Eeyore (he's my favorite) and Mickey (who can resist THE mouse) So go have fun and be a kid - get as goofy as you want - and you know what - no one will care!!!

DH and I and another adult couple were the only ones back in the UK (that can't be seen from the main street) and I guess that's where the characters come out. We noticed that Eeyore and Tigger were actually hiding in the trees from us and pretending to creep around and stalk us then jumped and chased us and ran around. I swear I almost got whiplash from Tiggers he was completey wrapped around me and jumping and bending side to side.

I've waited in line to meet the characters and they give you pretty much the same attention. there's sooo many other adults doing it you won't stand out I promise!!!

Count me in as a kid-free adult who loves to play with the characters! I've got pictures of myself (and DH) with the Hundred Acre Wood gang, Mary Poppins, Minnie, Friar Tuck (doing the "Bless me, Friar, for I have sinned" routine), and loads of others.
And I do believe the characters interact much better with the unburdened adults they come across.
For example, I have had a protracted discussion about my poor fashion sense with Cruella DeVil. It was on a MNSSHP night with throngs of kiddies about, but she made them wait in line to see her for at least 5-10 minutes while she cracked wise with me and the girlfriend I was traveling with that year.
Over the course of my adult years (I'm 34, BTW), I've also been pulled into a spontaneous tango by Prince John, tap danced with the Penguins from Mary Poppins and had a nice heart-to-heart with Fairy Godmother!
So don't feel self conscious at all. Go, enjoy yourself, and make the kiddies wait their turn.
Cheers,

We have more fun with the characters on our adults only trips than when DD is with us. We get autographs, go to character meals, pose for silly pictures, joke around with them. Back when they were doing the morning character caravans I was walking through the lobby of CR on my way to MK. Timon saw me, and came over and we danced through the lobby. It was a hoot!

Let loose, have fun, be a kid again! The characters aren't just for the the young, they are for the young at heart!

one time i was meandering around MK by myself and got super-excited when i saw Aurora...i had a CM take a pic of us and she was like "soooo....you are here by yourself?" but we talked a bit and she complimented my sunglasses and stuff  i adore her. i had a friend who was really into the characters and the two of us (we were 20 at the time) went to many many character meals, and always had fun. the guy characters would always pretend to hit on us (aw, Chip! swoon) and the princesses would talk to us like we were their best friends.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and the Genie was all by himself. I ordered DBF to go pose for a picture. Genie's chaperone urged me to join them. I said "no, my hair is a disaster". It was a windy day. The Genie pulled me close, licked his fingers, and smoothed my hair and wouldn't let me go until the picture was taken. Then, he gave me a kiss! One of the best moments of the day! Just remember - there are no "adults" in Disney, just really tall kids!

Believe me, there is nothing to feel self conscious about! The characters are great with little kids and big "kids" alike!

I got just as excited to meet Cinderella as my five year old niece and Cindy didn't think a thing of it! :cloud9:

My mom and I went to Disney without kids a couple years ago and did the Park Fare breakfast....we had a lovely chat with Mary Poppins, in fact, I'll never forget it. We also went to the dinner and hung out with Minnie, Mickey and Snow White and had a wonderful time!

Disney is such a magical place...I never felt uncomfortable or silly interacting with the characters...of course they weren't just "characters" to me and that made all the difference. You'll see!
