All the numbers are really confusing. Aren't all the rooms the same if they are the same TYPE of room? Like porthole room vs verandah room vs the big suites? What does it mean that I have a deluxe verandah 05c?

Yes, there are "main categories" like, inside, oceanview, verandah. There is more difference considering the deck and the situation (forward, midship or aft). DCL has split up all stateroom in several categories that should be more or less the same. The pricing of staterooms is per category, so all room in cat 5c (on the Magic for example) will have the same pricing, which will generally be more expensive than 6A, which also is verandah, but further from the midship and a deck downs. And that cat will be more expensive than a cat 9, which is an oceanview stateroom without a verandah.
Generally: the higher on the ship and the closer to midship the more expensive it will be. You can find all categories on the deck plans of the ships over on the DCL website. And on the blog: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/ships/deck-plans-disney-magic-disney-wonder/

To add a little bit to SillyInvetor, There are actually two things at play with the "5C". Category 5 is the type of room (5 is for Verandah), the "C" is location. "A" is midship and they progress to "B" and "C" etc... the farther you get away from midship. So, you have a Verandah either forward or aft. Make sence?
