or should I say..what is needed when getting back on board. Do I need to carry the passports with me the whole time ?

Adults need their DL, and everyone needs their KTTW cards. You show them when you get off the ship, and when you return to board the ship. They key you in the computer both times so they know where you are.

So, what happens if you get stuck on the island and you don't have your passport or birth certificate with you? Isn't that what you need them for? Or are they just for getting back into the US?

We've made it a habit since our first cruise to carry our passports anytime we are off the ship in a foreign country. The exception is Castaway Cay. This is both in connection to cruises and other travel, even someplace as "close to home" as Canada. You just never know. These days you just don't know what might happen.

One thing though, I don't carry a traditional handbag when I travel. I have this great little flat "pouch" with lots of zippered compartments that will hold passports as well as other things like credit cards and money! It can be worn in either the "fannypack" position or over the shoulder and across the body. That way things are pretty secure. Places like the Walking Co. and LL Bean Traveler have some great products.

You will need your KTTW card to get off and back onto the ship. It is best to carry your passport when visiting another country. If you don't happen to have a passport, then you should carry your driver's license. HTH

DCL requires all adults to have a photo id (either a DL or passport) with them whenever they leave and reboard the ship. So you'll need to plan on taking this (but not your birth certificate) with you whenever you get off. I assume this is for security purposes (since the KTTW cards don't have photos on them). Personally, I wouldn't want to be walking around anywhere away from home without some form of ID with me...

Thanks everyone...I guess at first I was thinking the passports would be safer in the safe...but that was before my morning tea...now I realize it would be better to have them with me..especially at St. Martin.
thanks for putting up with my morning silliness :o
