What do your kids call their Grandmother?

When I was growing up, both were Grandma _____ (fill in first name).

My mom is Grandma, Dad is Grandpa Tony to my two DDs and and DNs. My DW's mom is Mamgu (pronounced Mam-GEE), which is Welsh for Grandmother. While he was alive DW grandfather was Grandpa to DW and Dadcu to me, his request. DW's father passed away and is refered to Grandpa Bill.

My mom is Mimi to all her grandkids. She was WAY too young to be a grandma! :rotfl2:

DD calls my mom Nana..or Nanny and DH's mom is Mimi to everyone. But my DNeice..calls her other grandmom (SIL mom) Ookie (Rhyme with spooky) we have no idea why or how and no matter how they tried to get her to use something more conventional Ookie it is and Ookie it will stay :goodvibes

We let the grandparents decide what they wanted to be called. My mom and stepdad are nana and papa. Dh's mom and stepdad are mamaw (not sure how to spell that!) and papa. My dad and stepmom are simply grandpa and grandma. And dh's grandmother is also mamaw (but we say her last name after it to keep some of the confusion at bay!) Dd also has 3 other great-grandparents but since we never see them, and she is only 16 months old, we haven't had to deal with their names yet. It gets pretty confusing when you have so many grandparents...but what a blessing that she does have that many, right?!

I had Granny & Dockey and Nanny & Bop-paw. DH had Grandma and Grandma-in-Texas. :rotfl: My kids call my mother Mam-maw & my dad was Pap-paw. MIL & FIL are Grandma & Grandpa.

Always been Grandma here with mine... when both were together the kids would add a first name to one and a last name to the other.

I had a Gran and Grandma... Gran was my Dad's mum, she had 6 grandchildren before I came along and so she was already Gran but we always takced on the surname.

I used to know a little girl who called her Grandma Mum Mum when she was little.. not sure what she calls her now at 26.

I didn't add this earlier but when I was just learning to talk my maternal grandparents wanted to be called Grandmama and Grandpapa. My older cousins had called them this for years. I could not say it though so they became Mamama and Papapa. I never knew anyone else who had a Mamama and Papapa and I still refer to them as this, as do my 2 brothers. My Mamama is still alive but hasn't met my dd yet due to living too far away.

My paternal grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa. My maternal great-grandmother was British and went by Nanny. And my maternal great-grandfather was Papa. My paternal great-grandparents were Ma and Pa (and were as Southern as they come, lol). I never met the other sets or hardly remember them anyway.

Dh's grandfather was Granddaddy and his grandmother was Nanny. His other grandmother who is still alive is Mamaw (that is pronounced like Maam maw but we spell it as I did earlier.)

Hi, Im Goo. DGD couldn't say any form of grandma and that was what came out. It stuck and I love it! I'll bet I am the only Goo on earth. :teeth:

nope, sorry....my daughter calls gram Goo and/or Goo Goo.

My kids call my mom and dad Grandma and Pap. On their dad's side its Miss **** *first name* and Mr. ****. They were not ready to be grandparents so that is what they preferred. Now that they are ready 12 years later they want traditional grandma/gramps. Kids don't want to. Ex's sister has children now and they are called the traditional by them.

I am called grammy by the kids, but the grandkids are still babies so I don't know exactly what they will call me. DH is pop-pop right now.

My kids have Granny and Playmom. Not sure exactly how Playmom got her name. She is a rather formal grandma, always signed her name "Grandmother D*********" on cards. Then my oldest spent 2hrs with her while we signed some papers. When we got back, she was Playmom :goodvibes

Grandpa Dave & Grandaddy Bill have both passed. My dad(Bill) was never a part of their lives, by his own insistence. Thankfully, my mom's second husband Dave stepped up to the plate and at age 60 gladly inherited my kids. He loved them and they loved him. To my kids he is THE Grandpa :lovestruc

I despise "cutesy" names for grandparents. I don't know why....I guess because I hate baby talk in general.

My grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa and Grandmom and Grandpop.
My parents call themselves grandmom and grandpop to my son. He is too little to speak yet, but he will be encouraged to do the best he can with their names until he can say it properly.

That is kind-of sad. I wonder why you don't think "Grandpop" is "cutesy?" I think it is great when kids assign the names according to what they can say. My stepmother was like you and always made fun of us for calling our real Grandparents by the so-called "cutesy" names. Trust me, that was forever scarring and something she will never be forgiven for.

The "proper" names would be "Grandmother" and "Grandfather" and I don't see anyone but rich people on TV referring to them as that, lol!

We called my paternal Grandparents "Grandma and Grandpa" and my maternal Grandparents were "Grandma and Poe-Poe." We also had a Great-Grandma on my maternal side and we always called her "Mo-Mo." I'm unsure if we made that name for her or if it was always there. It's just what we always called her. I can't imagine my dear Poe-Poe as anything else and I think he would have been REALLY insulted if he would have heard us call him anything else. Poe-Poe was a term of endearment and he was very much-loved.

I am really enjoying reading what everyone's kids call their Grandparents! If we have kids someday I hope they come up with some cute names!

Sincerely,

Tracy

:joker: My baby sister always called Papaw "Hey You". When he'd enter a room, he'd growl real low, "heey yooou!" to make us laugh. She started calling him that and it stuck. He even signed her birthday cards "From Grandma and Hey You." :rotfl:
