What do your kids call their Grandmother?

my kids call my parents grandma and fafa. we don't know where fafa came from, my daughter made it up and it stuck. they call my in-laws grandma berta (roberta) and poppy.

my neice and nephew have grandparents they call yia yia (the greek word mentioned earlier in the thread) and ya yo. and they are cuban, so go figure! so, in turn they call my mom 'yai yai nini' which pretty much means their grandma from their moms side, who's name is denise but we cal her nini.

did that make any sense??

My kids and my neices call both of their grandmothers "grandma". If they need to specify which one they add on a last name. This is exactly what I called my g-mothers too.

Mine too. We add the 1st name for my mom and the last name for MIL. I have a grandmother still alive (I call her grandma also) and we add her first name to tell her apart from my mom.

I think this new trend of grandmothers naming themselves all these cutesy names is funny.

I'm opening up my family can of worms here...Just a few years before my DD was born, my father married my Aunt (yes, yes, I know, I'm my own cousin). It was making me crazy thinking of how to refer to her as I've always called her Aunt Ramona. But people would give me crazy looks when I introduced them as my dad and his wife, Aunt Ramona. :teeth: When my DD was little she started calling my Aunt/step-mom, Mo. So now we all call her Mo. People assume she's my mother, which is great by me and it made it easier for me to break the "Aunt Ramona" habit. It's a little bit harder to explain my cousins/step-sisters....

Growing up I had 2 Nonnie's and 2 Grandpa's.

My kids use Grandma and Grandpa for both sets og Grandparents and distinquish by last name if need be.

I hope to be a Grandma in the near future (and I can't wait!!!!!) and I imagine they will call us either Grandma and Grandpa or maybe Nonnie and Grandpa. Of course my FDIL is German so they may have something different. I should look it up.

I looked it up and there were a couple entries I couldn't come close to pronouncing and there was also Oma and Opa.

Maybe I can go with Grandma Oma or Nonnie Oma......hmmmmm :scratchin

Thats what we do too. If one of them calls and the girls answer they'll say Mom it's Grandma and I have to ask which one...usually it's my Mom so they just say yours. Great Grandma was around for a while and she was also called Grandma. I would specify by saying we're going to your Dad's Grandmas house. My nephews called her "little grandma" cause she was real small. (I personally hated that).

When my DD was born we tried "MeMaw" for my mom, it didn't work for DD. So, my mom is "Big Grandma" (she is 5'10"), my Grandma is "Little Grandma" (she is 5'1"), my step-mom is "mimi" and my step-grandmother is "GaGa Ruby" (that is what her other grandkids all call her. My ex-MIL is "Nani" (Italian for Grandma) and ex-Grandma-In-Law is "Grandma Rose" (coincidently, my mom is Rose as well ex-MIL's Mother). When DD was born my ex-FIL's mom was still alive and she was "nana" and my other grandma was alive, she was "Grandma Elsie". Wow, my poor DD, soooo many grandmas.

My neice calls my mom Nynn. My DM figured that's how a child would mispronounce her real name -Lynn- and it's stuck. mom picked this name before Lily was born figuring that the kids that came later would call her whatever Lily calls her.....

eta- my dad is "pa" to Lil, not sure where she came up with that one....she calls my dsil parents Grandma Jane and Grandpa....

My dd calls my parents Granny and Pop Pop .She calls my inlaws Grandma and Grandpa.

My 2 girls call thier mothers Mother GiGi and since her first grandbaby so does everybody else. My mother passed away before my kids were born but she would have been Grandma my dad is Grandpa and my grandmother was Grandma to me but MiMi to all of my cousins so my girls called her Grandma Mimi.

Both of them go by grandma. My 8 year old tacks on a first name if she is talking about one of them. My 4 year old can't seem to keep the first names straight (Hazel and Gloria) so he calls them "the grandma with the grandpa" (MIL) or "the grandma with out the grandpa" (my mom).

This is what we call ours too. Since my one grandfather died a few months before I was born the living grandfather was just grandpa or gramps.

My children call my mom "Mimi" and my Mother-in-law "Granny". I had a "Nana" and Maw-Maw" growing up. Good luck with your decision.

Lmao...how confusing. I was really confused at first thinking your dad married his sister :rotfl2: and I thought that was illegal in most states. Then I figured it out.

My children call my mother Grandma, and my MIL Grandma "her name".

They call my father "Papa" - none of us knows why, my oldest started calling him that, and the other two followed suit.

To be honest, I don't think "special" names are very special, unless the child comes up with it themselves.

I had a Grandma and Grandad, Nana and Papa and then my great grandmothers were Grammy and Tootsie. Now, everyone called her Tootsie except me, I called her Toot Toot. :teeth:

My son calls his "Grandma Jo" and "Grandma Tootie". Grandma Tootie came about because she used to call him her "sweet patootie" and before he was very verbal he told her he was her tootie and she was his tootie. So now she's Grandma Tootie at 6 years old and probably for a good long while! Jo is my mom's name so that one is easy to discern. My dad doesn't see him due to location so he is Grandpa Jose, and my FIL is by default, Grandpa Tootie - LOL :rotfl:Yeah, he loves that. :P

My Mom is "Gramma" or "Gramma Chris" when she's talking to someone...my MIL is just plain "Leslie" as Maddy was 2 when she first came into her life...her dad's mom is "Gramma One" because she has a twin sister.

The girls call my mom Grandma and DH's mom Grandma Debbie. They call my grandma "Nana," and DH's grandma's Grandma Donna and Grandma Joyce.

In my family we've used Mom Mom and Pop Pop (sounds like mum mum and pup pup) for at least 3 generations back.

This is what we call our grandparents too. It stopped at our kids generation. My DD was the oldest on both sides she calls my parents Memaw and papa and her Dad's parents Grammy & Grumpy. :rotfl2:
