What do you wear when it's HOT?

Cotton shirt and shorts or sun dress with cotton biker shorts underneath. I always have a light cardigan for buses and restaurants. I can't stand cool air blowing on me, even in the heat and learned the hard way in 2012 when we were soaked in a thunder shower and then sat waiting in a really cool air conditioned bus ..... I was sick the rest of the vacation

I also like my Mary Jane crocs rather than sneakers mostly because I don't have to worry if they get wet. Nothing worse than being hot and having soggy shoes on

so you know, AKL and the Poly both had really cute sundresses. At AKL I bought a strapless black one with hidden mickey leopard print ( the leopard prints were the hidden mickeys ) and at the poly a pink paisley with hidden mickey. really cool both in look and comfort and cottonish. both were under 40 I think too..

Oooh! Definitely going to have to check this out!

I'm in the short jeans & t-shirt/tank top crowd. Shoes are either sneakers (with flip flops waiting in the bag for water rides) or sandals. For my head I'm a big baseball cap fan since I can then double it up to keep my ponytail up and off my neck. And to finish it off I have my sunglasses if I'm wearing my contacts.

I really want to look cute for pictures/walking around but I almost always wear tank tops and running shorts.

LOL

That's how I think it'll be. Like one of those "what I think I look like/what I really look like" memes.

My thoughts for Disney World no matter what time of the year I go - "dress for comfort not for style".

I'd rather have a photo of me in shorts and a tank top with horrible hat hair (I always wear a ball cap to keep the sun off my eyes) but a huge smile on my face because I'm having a great time and I'm comfortable than having a photo of me in something cute with a fake smile because I'm miserable and uncomfortable.

No offense to anyone but I think vacations are more about memories and good times than a perfect photo on a wall.

We usually take all the moisture wicking/quick dry clothing. Cotton and Linen hang on to that sweat way too long. We made that mistake the first summer we went. I'm going to try the Columbia Omni Freeze clothing this summer. It's supposed to be sweat activated cooling.

Amazing post! I've been worrying about this too!

I'm red headed, English and about as pale as it gets. I'm genuinely terrified about how I'm going to handle the heat! Here, even in the warmest of summers, I pretty much live in dresses, leggings and cardigans.

I know I'll need to wear less (shorts and a cami/tshirt), but wearing less = more chance of burning, even with tons of sun cream! We went on holiday last August, it wasn't particularly warm, and in three hours (with suncream) I ended up with first degree burns on one arm. The year before.... I got sun burn, in Wales, in February, walking the dog on an over cast beach.

Is there anything you can wear that strikes the balance between being thin enough to keep you cool, but giving you enough coverage?

Any suncream brands with a high SPF you could recommend?

For our August trips we all wear moisture wicking "everything" by day (shorts, tanks or tees, socks, even our sneakers are lightweight and breathable) and hair for me and my teen girls are always up in a pony. At night, we tend to crack out either sundresses or shorts and tees made of very light material and switch to flip flops since we tour at a much slower pace in the evening. DH, pretty much follows suit....well, with the exception of the sundresses and hair up in a pony :lmao:

My oldest DD is very pale skin compared to the rest of us and always has to be careful of the sun because she burns very easy and tends to overheat quickly. Because of this, she'll wear less of the tank style tops and more of the short sleeve ones for more coverage but as I mentioned in my previous post, we only wear the moisture wicking material. I found a bunch for her last year at places like Dick's Sporting Goods, Target, JCP and Kohl's. You'll find them in the women's section where they sell the workout clothes. The material will be very light weight and will state either moisture wicking, fast-drying or even coolmax, depending on the brand. Can't stress enough just how great this material is for the summer months. As for sunscreens, we really like the Neutrogena line and vary between the one that says fresh cooling and ultra sheer. It sprays on dry and doesn't leave the skin feeling sticky and they're all higher in the sunscreen protection. HTH.

I'm a red head too! I stand no chance of tanning, only burning. So I too try to cover up while staying cool. Not an easy task!

I'm thinking thin, light colored, cotton tees and tanks. And not form fitting either, I think flowing tops might be better to help your skin breathe. Old Navy has little cardigans and in the summer last year they had a bunch of short sleeve cardigans. This helped me in the summer since my shoulders burn so easily.

I'm also contemplating a cute floppy hat.

I wear shorts, tee shirt or tank top, usually flip flops, sometimes sneakers.

It was so hot last August my husband wore his bathing suit to the parks. His suits are very neutral and didn't look like a suit. Either way, he didn't care -- he was cool!

Did this for DH, too! Got some very stylish ones that were quik-dry. Loved them!

You can try running skirts with shorts attached. It eliminates the need for shorts (and underwear in many cases)!

Yep-good, too! DD has these and tennis skirts are great as well! Totally stay away from denim as we found they hold the moisture long...don't dry out and can cause chafing...trust me chafing is no fun!

If you will be in FL in the summer, it will be hot...surface of the sun hot. No joke. Check out this I found for my niece who is red-head, pale and freckled for sunscreen: http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/beauty/sun-care/5-sunscreens-for-sensitive-skin.htm

Zinc oxide based will be important. Wide brim, breathable hat. You may want to try this shirt for your delicate skin: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/womens-capilene-1-baselayer-silkweight-crew?p=45645-0

for those that burn, how about an ankle length linen /cotton skirt. one that flows, doesnt stick. and even in the mideast ( i know its dry heat) they where white long sleeve shirts. maybe a thin linen, cotton one that is roomy over other stuff.

A cheap cotton poplin sundress is the BEST thing I've found to wear at WDw. Dries quickly, is breezy and its pretty much the BEST. If the ones I want to take don't have pockets (most do these days) I sow them in. I wear them with moisture wicking undergarments like the hipster of boy cut shorts - don't want to be in appropriate!

I do longer style shorts, like Bermuda's, or I will stick with capris. I am a tshirt kind of girl, so that's my go to. The softer and thinner the better.

Kinds do athletic style shorts and tshirts or tank tops. DH wears cargo shorts (too hot for me) and a well worn tshirt.

DH and the kids wear sneakers in the parks. I opt for a good pair of flip flops, usually Nike with the memory foam in the bottom.
