What do you use for shampoo?

I have a confession to make... I bought sample sizes of my shampoo and conditioner just so I could have the bottles. I know I could have bought empty plastic travel bottles for a lot less, but I just like the idea of having miniature versions of my actual shampoo/conditioner. Am I a big dork? :earboy2:

I haven't seen this one mentioned. If you have flip top bottles put a piece of masking tape across the flip lid and then put in a ziplock. I'll stick an extra strip of tape on an item that won't get wet, then use it for the return trip.

I am just wondering, is the hotel shampoo/conditoner/soap not so great? If we are not to picky, (traveling with DH, DS8 & DS3, they usually aren't picky) can we get by on the hotel's? I planned on bringing a small amount from home, just in case, but I thought we might be able to mostly rely on the resort's? BTW - we are staying at POP, do the value resorts have a different quality?

I buy the Aveda travel size shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, and confixor (liquid gel). They are perfect for a week long trip and the containers are very "solid" and sturdy. Then I just refill them every time we go on a trip.

For a family of 4 (2 adults/2 teens) I bought a 2 in one bottle, shampoo and conditioner, to avoid separate bottles and packed in a ziplock bag.

I found an entire aisle of travel stuff at the Container Store. Spray bottles (put in your own hairspray), pill cases, shampoo, etc, etc. what fun :Pinkbounc
They even have a sheet of labels you can buy to stick on blank bottles (his shampoo, her shampoo, etc, etc).

tickets booked, Candlelight booked, now is it December yet ?? :Pinkbounc

I always buy an 8oz size of shampoo and conditioner that everyone in the family can use. Or one 12oz/15oz 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner. When I am ready to pack, I take the top off the bottle, use a sandwich size plastic baggie, place it with the bottom of baggie over the mouth of top of bottle(leave plastic a bit loose), then I put the top back on the bottle very tight. I have never had a problem with leaking. :cool1:

The pressure of the plane can sometimes cause the product to leak out of their containers (anyone who might have opened a tube of something like Neosporin might have noticed this quickly while they were trying to catch the contents). Anyway something we've found that helps is to sqeeze out any excess air form the bottles before you pack them. We also alway pack them in the zip lock zipper bags. Those are good for a couple of trips assuming nothing leaks. And if something does leak, I throw out the bag and pack in one of the spares that I've carried with me for the return trip.

I'm picky about my shampoo & conditioner. I usually buy the biggest bottles I can find, but a few years ago I bought the smallest size bottles I could find that were not a travel size and I kept them after they were empty. Before we go an a vacation, I always fill them up about 3/4 from the huge bottles I usually buy. I always put all toiletries in ziploc bags for two reasons - in case something leaks and to keep things organized. It keeps small items from floating around among the clothes and it's easy to grab a bag and head to the bathroom!

L'Oreal makes a great kids shampoo/conditioner in one--and lots of great scents to choose from (Watermelon, my favorite). They come in a smaller container..although I don't have kids I found this to be a great shampoo for traveling and you don't have to bring conditioner as well! I used it for my last Disney trip, fits in two zip lock bags, one on bottom, one on top, perfect! Plus--it is a GREAT shampoo!
