What do you tip for appliance delivery?

Had a new washing machine delivered today (a Sunday no less). We had prepped the laundry room by removing the door, pulling out the fridge and removing the dryer from the top of the dead washer. This was a first floor delivery.

They hauled away the old machine, did all the connections and lifted and re-bracketed the dryer on top and pushed it into place. I gave them $10 each.

I couldn't believe our old front loader died after just seven years. The rear bearing went out and it was going to cost as much to repair it than it was to fix it. My folks had machines that lasted over twenty years.

I think you did fine. I usually tip them enough to buy lunch. 10 dollars is my norm. At my old house which had 3 flights of windy narrow stairs I used to tip 20 dollars per person and I was always so happy when they made it safely in and out! I believe in spreading the good karma and tips do that!

We have to PAY for most deliveries like that. If im paying for delivery, why would i tip? Why not start tipping my local city bus driver? Where does it end?

If I'm paying for delivery, I'm not tipping the appliance delivery guy. His pay is factored in to the delivery charge. (No, I don't apply this logic for food).

I've never tipped appliance delivery. I did tip some furniture delivery last year, they came about 50 miles, I gave them $10 each (2). I bought from a store near my aunt's and they advertised free delivery, no disclaimer about distance. The salesperson kind of balked but it was a large order so she gave in. The store that I bought my bedroom furniture was local and they had a delivery charge, I did not tip. I gave my movers $20 each (3)

I don't tip them. If the store offers free delivery, I just assume that the cost of that delivery is was added to the original price of the item. I try to have everything out of their way and make it as easy as possible, and if it's a hot day , I offer them a cold water/juice/soda..or a coffee/tea/cocoa on a cold day, but that's it!

I cannot imagine not tipping a service like that. I know they don't get all of the fee that the store charges.
