what do you think?

I'm planning a solo trip for May 2009 and LOOK OUT, I'm going to take up a whole Dumbo all by my lonesome!!!! Hope the OP doesn't sic the Dumbo police on me! :teeth:

it is stuff like that, that makes me wait in those long lines then take a whole elephant to my self, and giggle loudly like a little kid the whole ride. Well that and tuesdays.

If I want to ride Dumbo I'll wait in line and ride Dumbo! Age is not a factor at Disney World.:thumbsup2

My take? Sometimes people have dumb opinions. ;) It's allowed.

I could go into a whole long thing, but basically who cares what she thinks?
Maybe she was bored because there hasn't been a good "Can I put my 9 year old in a stroller?" or "Can I take my resort mug to other resorts?" thread in awhile.

:rotfl: my thouhts exactly.

We ended up walking up to CRT and looking at each other like, "Now, why do we want to eat here?" We skipped the reservation. This was in 2002 and credit cards weren't necessary. We went to O'Hana instead

So, instead of having a meal with princesses (although I guess if it was dinner it wouldn't have even been with princess, but I digress), they went to a meal where kids run around pushing coconuts with broomsticks? Glad I understand now.

In my recent trip to WDW--first trip with a family of my own-- there were several rides I sat out on so that my wife could bring some/all of my children on instead, and I was perfectly fine with that, because I was having just as good a time taking pictures, getting a frozen coke, or whatever else. That said, if I'd wanted to go on a kids ride, I could have and would have, and felt no guilt or anything else.

Another interesting point, is that what is defined as a theoretical "kids only ride" is rather subjective anyway. My DD6 was scared of Dumbo and Triceratops spin, but loved Spaceship Earth (I honestly thought she'd have freaked a bit at how dark most of it was).

It's like those who are of the opinion that the only reason you would go to a Disney park is to take your children. DH and I visited DL many times before children and enjoyed it every time. Now, there is a special magic for me to see it through the eyes of my children, but it is just a different way to experience it.

I, for one, would ride Dumbo with or without children. It brings back many happy memories for me.

The funny thing is that our kids give us the EXCUSE to go to Disney! LOL But yea, we've gone plenty of times prior to having kids. Disney is for everyone!

I was skimming through the thread and while the OP has done a really excellent job of riling everyone up (her intention I'm sure) I seriously don't get why people are explaining themselves or trying to justify riding Dumbo without kids to the OP. She isn't going to change her mind...she doesn't "get it" and never will. Her loss.

Is that thread a joke? I mean, it must be sarcasm right??? I don't think the OP could possibly be serious and think that just because adults are there without children then they should not ride a particular ride....

I completely agree. I think that the poster just likes to get people riled up. I was looking at her post count and it seemed high. I would think that a person who was going to Disney only for her kids wouldn't get involved as much. I would think that she would just lurk, get information and get out.

It all seems very elitist. You can't ride this because you don't have children. I run into this problem all the time at Disney. If I am waiting in line to see a character or to play a game or to do something that is more "kid-friendly", I often get pushed aside by a child or the parent brings the child up to the activity, completely ignoring me. Hello, I was standing here waiting my turn like a polite person!

I did wait until I had a 3 year old to recruit in order to ride Dumbo. But that's more because no preteen, teen or adult would ride it with me than feeling I needed to bring a child along.

Whether or the adult on the ride has a child in the car or not, you still have to wait for them. Having a kid along doesn't make the line shorter...so I don't see the logic.

But it's her opinion and IMO she's entitled to it.

I didnt see a single person that agreed with the OP. Was there anyone who agreed to the ludicrous idea of a child only dumbo ride?

...Ludicrous speed!:darth:

I think what I ride is my business and nobody else's. Unless Disney asks that adults not ride, I certainly think I paid the same as everybody else!! :D

Agreed

Really, I wouldn't care either way. But, Disney is designed for adults and children to ride together. The solution. Give Dumbo a Fast Pass!

I don't think Dumbo is the type of ride for a FASTPASS.

Did your daughter explain why she was afraid to ride Dumbo? I don't get how a kid can be afraid of a midway ride like Dumbo. All it does is go in circles, and it's pretty low to the ground  .

Yes~there was at least one poster who agreed with the OP, however; you mis-stated the position of the OP.

The things people find to complain about....I've never even had the thought go thru my mind. How about, get all these kids out of the line for Space Mountain....its an adult ride...and the line is too long! :scared1:

Did the op not say that there are very few rides just for kids? to me this sounds as if they think no adults should ride it unless accompanying a child.

The whole thread is silly & threads like that one were one of the reasons I started avoiding the boards! About the only one I went to for a while was a "cheerfully child-free" thread, where we discussed the absurdity of parents who think the entire world revolves around THEIR little darlings. :rolleyes1

Crazy parents, they should know it revolves around my niece!! ;)

Luckily, sanity seems to be a lot more the norm here on the podcast board!

I agree that many of the threads can be horrible as far as the flame wars that go on. I one saw a thread where several people bashed the moderators and the Dis boards in comparison to other disney boards because people were being nasty and rude and it wasnt being controlled. The moderators do a ton and arent appreciated as much as they should be. Only a couple people stepped up and actually defended them.

Funny part is that the people were complaining are probably some of the people doing the flaming.

Naturally - the ones who think they're the only ones with a right to express an opinion! The flame wars are bad enough, but when people get worked up over the most ridiculous things, it makes me embarrased to be a DISney Geek!

And you're completely right - the mods do an amazing (& thankless) job.
