about kids who don't wear costumes trick-or-treating??

on one hand i don't think it's fair to the other kids because they put thought into their costumes and wait all year long to go out and get candy dressed as their favorite pirate/princess/fairy/movie star.

on the other hand, i guess some of them don't have the money to get costumes.

but what do you think about older kids who trick-or-treat and don't wear costumes?? i'm talking about kids that are about 17 or so years old that just wear jeans and a sweatshirt and don't do anything.

or about the parents who have teeny tiny little babies that are under 2 years old who don't have any teeth, bringing their babies trick-or-treating??

i'm not saying that i'm for/against any of this. i just want to know what others think about it.

No costume...No candy! Sorry!! Even if they don't have the money to go buy a costume, they could make one. I always made my costumes when I was an older child who went trick or treating. Even if the kid paints his face or something. No costume...No candy!

Costume = trick or treating

No costume = begging

see that's what i thought. i wanted to put a sign out saying "No Costume, No Candy" but some people thought it was cruel.

i've made costumes a few times. just threw on some clothes and some make-up and went trick-or-treating.

I think with the little babies, it's more about dressing up and showing off the baby. I don't have a problem with that at all. The big kids that don't dress up really bug me, though.

I don't care if they have a costume or how old they are. I enjoy giving out the candy. I am certainly not going to use Halloween to try and teach kids I don't know about the proper way to Trick or Treat.

I was talking to one of the mothers in her car and I offered her a Snickers and the driver too, and there was a guy in the back seat and he rolled his window down so he could get one too. No matter how old we get, we all like a treat. :)

I had a great time.

i would just dress my baby up and take them to see family members and such. but i guess it's a bit different here. it's always cold on halloween and people are just careless so i wouldn't want to take my baby out. but that's just me.

kids not wearing costumes bugs me more tho.

not dressing up to me is like not giving out any presents on Christmas. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and i just think that if you are going to trick-or-treat you should at least TRY.

If you're not comfortable giving candy to those who dont dress up, tell them they must perform a trick for it. Maybe dance a little jig or sing an aria.

Then give em a snickers and tell em to get off you property.

lol :rolleyes1

With the littler one's I have packets of animal crackers, fish crackers, and coupons for Frosty's. They are neighbor-friends so I don't mind.

With the uncostumed teens, just so long they are polite and respectful I don't mind. If not, they get some of the "boring" candy like Mary Jane's that I keep a special stash on the side. lol

Sounds meek, I know, but I would not want to risk the chance of retaliation so I give something. You just never know these days.

To me the important thing about Christmas is people being kind to their friends and family and people being happy together :) You don't have to give presents to others to show them that you care about them and you don't have to get presents to be happy :)

I don't care how people are dressed. I purchase the candy to give it out. I'm not going to spend the night playing Candy Cop.:rotfl:

My son is 15. He stopped dressing up about 3 years ago. He still goes out along with my sister and I to "help" his younger cousins. He comes home with just as much candy as the little ones.

My 13 and 15yos wore costumes last night and STILL didn't collect candy. They just went along to watch their little sister have a good time.

If you come to my door on Halloween, you get candy. For me, it is about giving out candy. If they want it bad enough to come to my door, I could care less what they are wearing. I gave candy to several adults last night who were standing waiting for their kids. Why not? I had plenty and adults like candy.

DW gave out animal crackers to little babies..
What I don't understand is how parents let their teenage girls go out in 'skimpy' outfits...Having 2 girls I hope I never let them leave looking like that.. :confused3

As a kid the most fun of Halloween was getting dressed up. The day after I was thinking about next year's costume already. Of course I love the candy (still do) but dressing up was really fun.

I give out to whoever comes even the 17 & 18 year olds. This year though we only had about 9 kids, all pretty young. One little girl was so cute dressed as a little pumpkin, she took 1 little candy, so sweet. I told her you can have more, she gently took one more but another was stuck to it. She was so adorable.

Even if you don't have much money you don't have to buy a costume. I dressed as a hobo one year, just wore some old clothes, tied a piece of cloth around a stick, dirtied up my face & off I went.

We have a 14 year old French Exchange student staying with us & he went out with my 12 & 9 year old's last night.... Now my 12 year old has NO desire to dress up... I tell him, no costume, no trick or treating! He's a karate black belt, so he puts his uniform on & goes out... So what did we dress the exchange student with? That would be my son's second karate uniform that is completely different than the first... He wore a white belt instead of the black belt though :)

Our exchange student had a great time by the way... but no way do I let my son out of the house without SOME KIND OF COSTUME!

You come to my door and say TOT and I give you candy.

BTW only two kids did not say thank you last night. They were both about 8 years old and seemed a little scared. Their parents were not there and we live down a 500 foot driveway that had ghost, skulls, spiders, bats, rats, body parts, lightening in an upstairs room as well as pumpkins and Casper.
