What do you think...right or wrong? Possible debate

If I understand correctly, they are saving 300.00? For someone who can afford two places why would 300.00 make or break them? Leave the small places to us poor folk. Maybe they store their luggage there?

You're missing the point.

They are renting two places but paying less than the price for just the one and saving $300 (for the hassle of checking in at POP). Sounds like a little extra work but brilliant at the same time.

My buddies over at fatwallet.com would applaud these people. And they're a tough crowd to please!

The only problem is they are taking two rooms with the possibility of preventing someone from staying at POP who wanted to but there's no rooms available.

I also agree with the safety issue. When a hotel has a fire, do they check ALL rooms or just the ones listed as having guests?

I see nothing wrong with it.

Even if there were a fire they ask any one who is staying at the hotel to check in with them so they know you are not still in the hotel. There is probably only a few hours a day (if that) that the majority of people checked into a hotel are in the rooms at the same time, with all the different time zones around the world it makes it hard for everyone to be on the same schedule.

In this case, someone already checked this out: there are still rooms at POP, just no free dining plan.
You can turn the thing also around, and say they prevent someone from staying at the other hotel (they could just stay at POP...)

kaytieeldr - Apology accepted, thank you.

I do wonder something about room availability though. Did they only have a limited number of room available for the free dining deal like they do AP rates and such?
I know when they release codes you can get rooms at regular rates but once the code rooms are gone they are gone.
Was this set up the same way I wonder?

Does this mean they can get double fast passes? The Pop room key AND the Villa room key? Now I'm jealous! :rotfl:

Just in case anyone didn't get the joke: No, you cannot get double FastPasses. FastPasses are tied to the admission passes used for entry to the park, not to room keys in general.

We got double fast-passes last year and it was awesome! Bought a package with tickets and dining plan (never again w/the dining plan!) and had our APs. :)

I really wish Disney would come out with a system like Universal has where you get unlimited FPs if you stay in the hotels.

Yes - all promotions are set up that way. The thing is, the public doesn't know how many rooms are designated for any given 'deal' rate each night. Is it 5%? 10%? 25%? No way for us to find out :(

Hmmm.... Of course, you ended up paying for entry twice for each day... not many people who would like the idea of doing that! :)

Universal's resort guests are always a small minority of their theme park guests. If Disney does its job right, Disney resort guests will be a majority of their theme park guests for most of the year. As such, there is no practical way to offer "unlimited FPs". They're going to have to be much more subtle in the benefit they provide their resort guests.

universal is a small park. they can do that perk for the hotel guests with the FOTL set up. i go there after the disney trips and can do everything in 3 days. just can't do that at disney. i stay at the motherland 10 nights each year on a trip and still don't get to do everything i wish to.

disney has a lot more to offer all age groups. i can't see them doing FOTL system. i did read on the rumor board of revamping the fast pass and designate a number of fast passes per the resort you are staying at.
now, that would be a mess ! hopefully, it was just someone's opinion

The only proposal I've read that seems to have any merit is the idea that resort guests, or just deluxe resort guests, will be able to secure a few extra, specific-timed FastPasses before they leave their hotels in the morning. That would be a great idea, IMHO, and I hope it comes about soon.

I took this from the resorts board. I personally don't agree with it. We tried to book POP during free dining and nothing was available. I wonder how many rooms may be sitting empty there that we could have been in?

Brilliant! :thumbsup2

But I do feel bad for the people who tried to get rooms & couldn't! :guilty:
This does offer some merit as when you have a large family the dining plan (when paid for) isn't all that great of a bargain!!!!!

That sounds very interesting indeed.

I agree with you. Even though I don't think it's technically wrong, it seems like a lot of aggravation to go through to save $300.

But, I truly believe there are people in this world who love to "put one over" on Disney. They love to think they got some for nothing from them, or that they "beat" their system.

Aren't we all trying to "beat the system" at least a little? I mean, I'm constantly scouring the resort board and mousesavers for ideas about saving money for the way too many trips we take to WDW. The less known, the better -- I love getting "a deal".

At some point I'm just too lazy though, and what the OP describes may be one of those times -- or rather, is one of those times. I'm too lazy to even do the math and even be sure I'd be saving.

The double booker should offer the room up to a diser who needs extra room during their trip to the Pop during the same time. That would be a great noble thing to do.

I don't think I would -- I wouldn't want to be liable for someone else. What if they caused damage or something -- no, unless I knew them I would be really hesitant....
