Earlier this month, I mentioned to a friend that we were getting a new van in a week. She acted like she was interested in what we were getting and then proceeded to run out and get the same van but with upgrades and gets it home in her drive within two days and then brags about how she got her van before me.

Why would anyone do this and act this way??? :confused3 :confused3

It has been my experience that people who are like this are trying to make up for something missing in their lives.

Either that, or she has the emotional maturity of a 5 year old.

Don't lose any sleep over it. Sounds like you're the better person. You can shrug it off and enjoy your van. :)

Don't let it bother you. I have a SIL like that always has to top you. Enjoy your new van!

The same reason that my brothers fiancé insisted that they have their wedding before my other sisters. (She had my brother had only known each other for 2 months before they got engaged and my sisters wedding had been in the process of being planed for a year prior. My brother got married 1 month before my sister. ) And when she found out that my dh and I were pregnant announced to everyone that she and my brother were also trying to get pregnant. It's the "I don't feel special unless all the attention is on me" mentality.

When you get your Van just make the comment...."Yes we could have gotten the van we wanted earlier, but we decided to try and get the best price...Don't you just hate it when they try to rush you into a deal, then push all the expensive options off on you at a premium price"...Then knock about $4000.00 of what you paid for the van and tell her you're very happy with the deal you received.

I like this one!!! :teeth:

Sounds like she is jealous and wants to be just like you!

She is what I call: The One Upper! She just has to feel like she is one up on you!

Because they are a sad soul with no self-esteem and the only way they can feel good about themselves is to be "better" than you...or at least what they consider to be "better".

I have a friend like this. When we first bought our house, her biggest concern was that I had a bigger dining room than hers. Forget the fact that I live in a very normal Cape, and she has a 3000 square foot ranch with an Olympic size built-in pool and a cabana. My dining room was bigger than hers, aqnd that was a problem. As it was, the room I was using as my dining room was actually intended to be the master bedroom, which is why it was big-ish, which is what I told her. After that, whenever she was at my house, if someone commented on the size of my diining room, she would have to say "Well, it's not really a dining room. It's supposed to be the master bedroom, but they use it as a dining room". Whatever...if it makes you feel better to point that out, then knock yourself out.

Then, for this same dining room, I got a new hanging light fixture. She had to start looking for a new hanging light fixture for her dining room, and of course, went ot where I bought mine, and bought one that cost $50 more. And of course, she had to inform me of this. The thing is, I bought the one I bought because I liked it and it went with the style of my house, which is traditional/country. Her house is bigger and more formal, so her light reflected that difference in style, but she had to make sure the one she got cost more than mine.

Other than that, she's a great person, so I have learned to accept that she has to feel like she is the richest or has the best stuff or whatever.

So... next time you plan to get something... feed her misinformation. :rotfl2:

I have a friend (female) who went furniture shopping with a co-worker. My friend spotted a chair that she really liked and wanted to buy it, but needed to wait until she saved some money. Within a week, our co-worker excitedly invited my friend to come over to her house for a surprise. You already know what's coming...the co-worker bought the chair my friend wanted. :furious:

What is that about? :confused3

At least you'll always have a "newer" van than your friend. That counts for something! :thumbsup2

Just outta curiousity what is it? I mean its a van... it's not like it's a collector's car or something that costs $80,000.

OOooooo you got the car first.. big deal.

ugh... at least your not related!

Or you could just congratulate her on her new van and try to be happy for her.

My wife has the same competitive tude with her family, she complains that they are competing with her but I tell her to look in the mirror.

Because she's a wackadoodle?

This thing with cars never fails to amaze me. Who cares what kind of CAR someone drives? They're just big hunks of metal that shuttle your dead butt from place to place!

Never in my life would I brag about anything car-related or be impressed by a flippin car. ...much less who gets it first.

I don't even KNOW what kind of cars my friends drive, except for the one with the Escalade - and that's just because we sing about it with that "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" song.

I've always thought that people who are impressed by cars are easily impressed. (Except, of course, for collectors. Everyone is entitled to a hobby!)
