I tried calling the 800 on the back but they want the card # I have no problem with that one but then they want the SS#--that one I have a problem with

I tried different ways of talking to a live person sometimes if you hit 0 a few times it will transfer you to a customer service rep

does anyone have any advice on this one

thanks all

If it's not familiar, cut it up,throw it away. Too many scammy stuff out there to give out your info. A few years ago "UPS" called me asking for all sort of info to deliver a package. It was around Christmas and I guess they assumed I would readily give out information. They even told me to imagine how upset my loved one would be if I didn't get their gift. I told them if a relative sent me something and I don't call them to say thanks, they will call me if I received it. Long story short, I never got a package an none of my relatives called to ask if I r'cvd anything.SCAM!

So many green dot card scams going on right now the web site scambusters.org can not keep up on them. New ones are added weekly

I would toss it....

Green Dot does require an SSN. Some companies are now direct-depositing paychecks onto these types of cards. Does it actually have your name on it, or is it a generic card?

To comply with fdic most want your ss now...but sounds off to me with receiving it just randomly in the mail after all these green dot card scams hit....

Smells fishy to me

the only prepaid card we've ever had were from test drives at car dealers as a bonus they'll give you a card with usually $50

this is different though--this is where you preload this card and when its gone you can put more money on it Ive heard of some people getting it for on line purchases instead of using there actually visa

and yes it has my hubbys name on it

I don't like it that I cant talk to someone--Im not giving out any SS# that's for sure

I've already cut it up--I just thought the whole thing was sort of strange and scary

thanks all

Many years ago a package was dropped at my parents' front door. It was a replacement cell phone for a different carrier. They brushed it off, but I was convinced it was a scam and a bill for a 2 year contract would be next. Well, I called the carrier and they apologized that they sent it to the billing address by mistake. Long story short, someone opened a cell phone account, ordered a computer, bought first class plane tickets and thousands in jewelry in my father's name. There was $40,000 in theft in under a week. You need to check your credit reports for recent inquiries and put a freeze on them.

Wow. People have brass ones!
Op, I would immediately think it's a scam unless you ordered this card.

I received an email asking me to activate my new Brinks prepaid card. I hadn't even received it yet. Then, sure enough, one showed up in my mailbox. It has my name on it but no money. I cut it up and tossed it, but still not sure how I ended up with it in the first place.

We purchased a pre paid card to pay for something online, it made us sign up for a real card even though we used all on the one we purchased..I had to give my SS# and got a real card with my name on it from green dot where I can load money on it..
