What do you think of this gift request? Update...No Wii

They'll get there's when their kids grow up and reminisce about the Christmas mommy and daddy blew their Wii money at a spa.

too funny:rotfl:worth repeating!
I am so disgusted!!! The nerve of some people!!! Look at this email that was just sent to me by your family member...

Please Remember The Forgotten Children This Holiday Season
03054upreview.jpg

We live a simple life. Except for the occasional spa retreats, we are not a family that indulges in excesses. I am sad to report that we were unable to raise enough money to make our children's Christmas wish a reality. They did not receive a Nintendo Wii on Christmas morning. Thank you for all who donated. Your money is being placed in a Wii Savings Fund. Please know that none of the donated money went towards my golden facial, wine bath, or herbal wrap treatment at the spa this past week. We are still accepting donations and hope to raise enough by the end of the year to purchase this one special gift for our children.

Please help this hard working and loving mother bring the joy of this holiday season to her precious children. Cash donations will be accepted. Call for details. If no response, please leave a message, as mom is scheduled for a 14 karat gold facial sometime this week. Either she, or her personal assistant will get back to you.

Have a happy and healthy holiday season, and if you have not yet donated, there is still time.

Apparently, they did not get the Wii.

I got told about the email that was sent around to all the contributors (so not me, lol).

The email basically said that they did not get enough money for the Wii, so they are going to keep the money in a special Wii fund. They thanked people for being so kind and generous and even specifically thanked those that contributed more but noted that it wasn't enough to cover the people "that sent nothing". They also invited people to contribute (only if they want to!) in the New Year so they can get the Wii faster. Also there was apparently a line about how their kids are so brave they managed to have a good Christmas anyway.

I am baffled by these people. They gave each other spa weekends at some resort place, but no money for the Wii. I guess they need to prioritize better!

I have no idea how many people actually gave them money.

I haven't seen them yet but I will on New Year's Day for a family brunch. I wonder if I will get the cold shoulder.

I mean geez its not like I dislike these people, but I had already bought gifts and don't want to be guilted into this thing! Of course now that they have extended the "Wii fund-raising drive" into the New Year, it is no longer even a Christmas present so that no longer matters. Ugh!

The bolded part is what gets me! BRAVE because they managed to have a nice Christmas without getting a Wii? Wow....just...wow!!

Seriously, they are keeping the money in a Wii fund?? Those things are only $199 now. They really couldn't get their kids a wii, but they can give each other a spa weekend?? They have more nerve than anyone I can imagine!!

I was shocked by this thread from the start, but then to read that they gave each other a spa weekend, and the follow up email to the "contributors"...now I'm beyond shocked.:confused3

My Mom's one sister does this kind of crap all of the time! And they always end up giving in. But the worst part about it is, they will use the $$ on something else!

It got to the point where they would give the $ directly to the kids and take the kids to the store and buy it for them, because every birthday and Christmas went to Mom and Dad.

They take the money for themselves??? I can't even fathom it.

When family members give money to get DS something, we are exact about it. SIL gave him money for "stuff" on his b'day, and I practically sent an accounting so she knew I wasn't stealing HIS money. She gave him money for xmas, and we'll be sending her pictures. We called them yesterday and DS was thanking them, and listing what 'she" got for him, but then he started saying what DH and I got, and I had to intervene and say that those were NOT from her money.

I can't imagine taking his money. (it's possible that's b/c DH and I had fathers that routinely emptied our savings accounts)

They gave each other spa weekends at some resort place, but no money for the Wii.

Speechless....

What I don't understand is...... dh and I would gladly do with out any gifts at all in order to get our kids gifts -- even an occassionally extravagent gift like a Wii.

Seriously! We're focusing on paying off our car then DVC, so DH and I got 2 presents (well, hubby got 3 but it was a $5 box opener that he actually wants for work) each. His presents were under $40 total, and mine were...oh, the same approximate cost. Everything else (besides fun and inexpensive stocking stuffers) was for DS. But even when we weren't focusing on paying things quickly, we did the same.

:thumbsup2 I thought that was the usual way things went too.

I vote that the OP sends this in an email to those idiots. :lmao:

And if they did have a "contribution jar" at the New Year's bash, then take Monopoly money and put into it. Especially the denomination that's green.....

I'd say print some "real" money but that's illegal.... :rolleyes1

Wow. Sounds so much like my SIL. Sad that there are so many people like this out there! SIL and BIL had a new shop/garage built and are begging for cash to pay for cement for the floor. They begged last year too and got enough for 1/2 of it. They wanted the other 1/2 this year...$1000 They said they got close....we didn't contribute and weren't even asked to this year, probably because we didn't contribute last year.

These people make over $100,000 a year. I know because DH helps them with their taxes. They live in an old house that cost them $5000 from a family member. DMIL and the Grandma on the Dad's side babysit the kids for free. They always are whining like they have no money. Makes me sick and I wish I could tell everyone how much money they make!!! But I will keep my mouth shut and vent here on the DisBoards.

They give very cheap gifts, by the way. We spent $120 on their family of 4. For our family of 5 we got an ugly plate to hang on the wall, from a thrift store, a gift certificate for $25 to the movie theatre, and a punching ball. Irritating.

Maybe they will charge everyone an entrance fee to the New Year's Eve Brunch and get their Wii faster?? I would bring a jar for your Disney fund :thumbsup2:lmao:

I think you should e-mail as many people as possible who will be at the brunch who didn't contribute to the Wii fund. Suggest everyone bring a donation jar, labeled with their big "need" (car, vacation, clothes, etc), and once the no-class people bring up the Wii, all the non-contributers bring out their jars all at once and set them on the table.

All of you non-Wii contributers could then make a point of throwing some change or a couple dollar bills into each of those jars as seed money, and then all turn to the no-class people and ask for their contributions. Take pictures of their faces when this happens, and post for our enjoyment.

I can't help but picture Randy Quaid's character in vacation shaking down Clark for cash.

CLASS ACT.

I can't beat this story but this Xmas my fiance went to see her aunt in her new 275k house.

She hasn't worked in years, she's on state disability.

she just bought an Acura TL

and a big **** flat screen.

This lady is living a better quality of life than I am and I have two (well paying) full-time jobs.

The thing is irritating as hell to me, not in jealousy, just, I know damn well there are people that suffer and don't liven even half as good as me and here is someone juking the system. blah!

The spa weekends, I gotta ask, how did that get out? It wasn't in the email right?
