What do you think of Nerf Guns?

We own just about every Nerf gun ever imagined! Boys are 4 and 12 and every single year they ask for a new one. The 4 y/o can't go to Walmart without going down the "Nerf gun aisle".

How long have nerf guns been around??? I only notice them this year. I have a 12DD so I never pay attention to boy toys. The machine gun one caught my attention. I thought it looked really cool!

how do you know which darts work in which gun? I ordered one from amazon for dd10 to protect herself against the bunch of 8-11 yr old boys in the cul de sac and want to pack her up with ammo. Do any of the nerf orange ones fit them all?

One size fits all :)

One size fits all :)

Not true by any means! There are some darts that will not work in some guns. Both of my boys have the Raider something or other that holds 35 darts in a circular chamber. If you use any darts with the suction cups or the orange ones with the larger blunt heads that are black, they will jam. This gun can ONLY use the orange darts that are slightly narrower and have a small, blunt orange head. They both also have the Maverick and some of the suction cup darts get jammed in that one as well.

You will get a set of darts when you buy a gun, if you want additional darts, just buy the same ones.l

The nerf gun & nerf football have been a favorite for my son for the past 5 years, he's 10 now.
I think it's a great gift.
He has received multiple of the same nerf gun from friends/relatives over the years. I think he has 5 of the same one. It's one gift that's great to receive what you already have. When friends or cousins are over at the house, they will grab the guns & have fights outside with them.

My ds11 loves his nerf guns. They are one of his favorites! I also should own stock in NERF!

The neighborhood kids (even the high school aged ones) all want to play when the nerf guns come out and dh thinks they are great fun too! Maybe I should get dh a gun of his own for Christmas???

I don't think you can go wrong with a nerf gun purchase.

My DS 11 also has loved Nerf guns for several years. I lost count of how many he has, but it's got to be somewhere over 25 guns. Some of them are HUGE which does become a storage issue of where to keep all of them! His closet floor is where they are kept out of sight, but they fill up the whole floor.

When he turned 10 he had a Nerf gun shoot-out party at the park and then we took the boys out to eat at Red Robin afterward. The boys said it was one of the funnest parties they had ever been to. A few copied and had the same party later on. The best part for me and DH was it was the cheapest party we ever threw -- and no work or clean-up for us at all. :thumbsup2

i see you got all positive replies already but i just had to say my kids love them. my 4year old daughter said to me "mommy just cause i am a girl doesnt mean santa cant bring me a gun for christmas!" so dd4 and ds7 are both getting nerf guns this year.

My boys have quite a Nerf gun collection. DS used to buy some with his birthday money each year. They would often get a new gun for Christmas in the past. This year they will only be getting ammo, but like I said they have quite a collection.

My boys are now 14, 15 and 16 yrs old. In the past few months they have been going out with friends to play "Nerf wars" in the wooded areas. It seems to have replaced air soft or even paint ball......which I am so happy.

Its fun to watch them play and I love that they are getting out and having fun.

Nerf guns are awesome. As for the knockoff, we bought one that was nerf quality, and one that wasn't. So they're hit or miss. And toy guns have had to have the red tip and the end of the barrel since the 90's. So toy guns shouldn't be treated any differently than nerf. Camo darts...bad idea.

We had a teens nerf gun war at our house 3 days ago. They all loved it. My ds 14 has 6 of them and just doesn't seem to grow out of them. When he got birthday money from his grandma, he bought 2 more guns and more ammo. I love them because it's a gift that lasts a long time and they have so much fun with them. I've never bought anything but NERF brand. They are pretty inexpensive, so I never saw the need. We've never had one break. Good luck!

This was a great gift to give-lol! I got two for my nephews and one for my dd12 and dh. OMG i was dodging nerf darts all morning-lol! DD and Dh played against each other. DD really ejoyed her gun. We didnt buy extra darts so extras are a must. She got a $50 giftcard to wal-mart and she said she's buying more darts-lol!

One rule is no head or face shots or they lose the guns. I know I'm a buzz kill but better safe then sorry. I also told dd she is NEVER allowed to point the gun to face or head even if there arent any darts . I told her think of it as a real gun. I just dont want any eye injuries.

If anyone sees any good deals on the darts please let me know. We have two of the sonic maverick guns(green color guns)

DW made son "out of his mind" happy on Christmas morning. Not only did he get the Stampede, she also picked up the N-Strike Barrel Break, which looks like a shotgun and launches two darts at a time. Very cool and the darts really travel on this one. Congrats to all the new Nerf owners, but beware... Much like the potato chips, you can't stop at just one. :)

No one had more fun with the nerf guns than my DM who is 66. She decided to attack during the ping pong tournament. Per the grandkids, she is now grounded for a week. :rotfl2:

We love our Nerk guns, too. We had quite the battle yesterday. I asked dh if he thought there were other parents having to prepare Christmas dinner with a loaded Nerf gun at their side to ward off attacks from their children. LOL!!! These are always a hit with my GIRLS. Extra darts aften get put in Easter baskets, too.
