What do you think of Hotwire?

What #of stars did you request? I was gonna try $50 also (maybe even less at first to see if there is a bite) ~that is if I am understanding this all correctly!:rotfl:

Yes, a 3*. Somewhere online (perhaps betterbidding) I had read that someone got a room for $48. I'm sure there are a lot of always-changing factors that go in to what people can get.

I love using Hotwire, along w/ betterbidding.com. I've never used it for WDW trips, but I use it all the time for weekend getaways and other random trips. I've had really great luck w/ it. My strategy is to stick w/ 3.5 stars or higher and I've been really pleased w/ the results.

How much do you usually start your bids at when bidding for a 3.5 star?

$48 sounds great to me!

It would probably be pretty risky to do a 2 star with priceline and not as risky with Hotwire if you are able to figure which hotel you are actually bidding on.

I was looking at some between the 2 and 3star range on Hotwire but on priceline I think I will put in that I would like a 3star.

Use priceline all the time and hotwire a few times.
Priceline will have a 2.5 * which will come up at as 3* on hotwire. Priceline seems to have a stronger rating process.
follow the stratagies on bidding4travel and you should get a great deal. Know what your free rebids are. Good luck

Now I found out this info:

I guess you really have to trust them

hmmmmmmm will i really be getting a DTD location if I choose this hotel:

and what could i really expect at 2.5 stars? Probably not alot but it does have a pool!

then there is this location but I don't know where Winter Park is
anyone know? is that close to WDW? We want to be able to drive to our Resort on check in day without fighting too much traffic.

also they describe some by the Maingate too. One is 3.5 stars for a good price and one is 2.5 stars for a dirt cheap price~(but hey they do have a pool).

It's too bad I can't find out the name b4 I commit. I don't want moldy walls in my room or cockroaches or bed bugs or anything else thats disgusting in my room but I don't mind and economy type rooms as we will be getting a really nice room once we get too our WDW resort.

I would love to get some opinons on this.

Winter Park is NOT close to WDW,maybe a 25 minute drive on the highway if there's no traffic, longer with traffic. There aren't too many good hotels around the Maingate area, which are probably going to be on 192,in fact I would say many areas on 192 are downright shady and if you go east of 535 on 192 it's EVEN SHADIER,from 535 to the Disney entrance and maybe a bit west there are a few decent hotels but more "not so great" ones.I would look at either the Lake Buena Vista area if want closer to Disney or somewhere on International Drive, where I usually end up staying like 90% of the time, like 10 minutes to Disney on the highway

so taking your advice into consideration if I use priceline should I choose the following areas?
Disney World Vicinity –
and Kissimmee –

Here are their choices:
Disney World Vicinity – area map Best deal

2 Downtown Orlando – area map Best deal

3 Kissimmee – area map Best deal

4 Maitland - Altamonte Springs – area map Best deal

5 Orlando Airport (MCO) – area map Best deal

6 Orlando East – area map Best deal

7 Sand Lake Corporate Park – area map Best deal

8 Universal Studios - Sea World – area map Best deal

9 West Disney Area – area map Best deal

10 Winter Garden – area map Best deal

11 Winter Park – area map Best deal

They probably include the Maingate area in with "Disney World Vicinity"
I'm glad you told me about the Maingate because many of the options for me on Hotwire are located on the Maingate!:scared1:

I can't tell you about Priceline since I never use them,Hotwire I use,A LOT,but I never seem to book anything around the Maingate areas through them, but I do know there aren't many hotels that I would consider that great in that area.I don't know if Hotwire uses them, maybe you can check it on Betterbidding.com but the Comfort Suites Maingate East is a very good hotel located on 192 near Disney's maingate,it's next to Old Town and Celebration,I used to book it using Orbitz but lately the hotels price has gone up.Since I don't know what kind of hotels you get on Priceline I can't suggest anything with them but with Hotwire I've gotten many hotels on International Drive that go for $120+ on their website for $45-$50.I think my biggest point is that if you're going to use a Hotwire type site where you don't know what hotel you'll end up with I would avoid areas that have 1 good hotel for every 4 mediocre or bad ones.So I would suggest sticking with the Lake Buena Vista or International Drive areas and getting hotels with at least 3 stars if you can.

On Hotwire when you secure a room for one night, how many additional nights does Hotwire then offer you the same room for or does it vary?

Thank you

If I wanted to try and get a hotel like the Wyndham Palace in the Downtown Disney area, do they show up on Hotwire or Priceline...4 star? And is a winning bid less than $ 100? I'd love to get a deal on a hotel like the Wyndham Palace or the Hilton near Downtown Disney, but don't know if anyone has won them on an auction site, and how much they paid.

Any insight would be great !!!! :yay:

Only 50 more weeks to WDW time...I hope the next 50 weeks fly by......

Wyndham Orlando Resort is 3 star with Hotwire. Based on a description of it's amenities you might be able to figure out if one of the hotels that are available for your dates are WOR.

If you search Wyndham Orlando Resort and Hotwire at tripadvisor you might be able to see how much people have bid on this property and betterbidding.com might help you figure out if the hotel descipton is likely to Wydham.

good luck
I'm trying to figure this all out too
