What do you think is the minimum age for Tower of Terror?

My son will be 5 when we're there next - and he thinks he wants to try it. He is already past the 40" requirement, but I still think it's a very wild ride - especially with all the new drops.

I don't know if there is a minimum age, I think you just have to meet the height requirement. I know my daughter rode it at age 5 and loved it!

Just make sure your son can handle the twilight zone story of the ride, this really freaked my son out, much more so than the actual drops. :)

My DD first rode it when she was 3.and again at 4 yet at 5 she said it was too scarey...so she didn't ride....It wasn't the ride it was the preshow...

DD rode at 4 1/2 and liked it. She was a little scared, but she has seen the Tower of Terror movie(runs on Disney every once and a while).

My 4 y.o. ds rode it and liked it as well. As we were winding through the copious Christmas crowds after riding it, he turned, pointed at it and said, "Now THAT'S a cool ride!":D

My four year old on the other hand is still on kiddie rides. Tower of Terror is still at least a year or two away. The one he really wants to go on is Dinosaur (of course).

My DD6 rode it when she was 4. She was not afraid of the drops but the Pre show and the times that we were in total darkness really scared her. She has not gone on again but she told me that she might go on again when we go in a few weeks.

WOW ~ I was going to post this question! My son will be 4 years and 3 months old for our next trip. This is a kid who doesn't seem to be afraid of much. He handled Haunted Mansion better than dd who is 6 years older than ds. dd went on ToT when she was 7. I would like to take ds on ToT next trip when he is 4. Where can I get that ToT movie you mentioned? Thanks! S

It SO depends on the kid. My 9yo won't go near it because of the drops. I think my 3yo probably would. My 11yo has LOVED it since he was about 8, but wouldn't go near it when he was younger than that. It was an atmosphere thing.

Hi ~ I went to my library's data base and found the movie! I reserved it so I should have it in a few days! COOL! THANKS! S

my 5 year old wouldn't make it into to the building, she loves Splash Mountain and Goofy's Barnstormer and would probably be ok on the drops, but there is no way she could cope with the storyline. She won't even walk past haunted mansion, we have to run right past every time...

It really does depend on the child, for some the 'atmosphere' is much scarier than the physical ride

My girls won't ride anymore - they both rode fine at 4 or 5 whenever they hit the 40" requirement and now at 6 & 8 they won't. Last May they both loved TOT and this Feb they were both in tears - it was not the new drop sequence btw but the preshow.

My 8yo Loved RnRc loves Spl Mtn and any other rollercoaster but now the "fright factor" gets to her. My 6yo is the same - any other ride including Space Mountain but not Tot. In fact I think they are more scared now by ToT, Haunted Mansion and even Dinasour than they were last year.

I think they younger ones are just fasinated by the show and aren't afraid of that type of stuff yet. This trip my girls (unfortunately) "got the preshow" I felt so bad during the ride as we NEVER force our kids to do something they don't like. They both rode willingly as they had rode many, many times before.

So if they are young enough to enjoy the ride but not understand the "fright element" then go for it. Be cautious though the new drop sequences are "awesome"!

When my son wa 3 yr old he rode it over and over and over and over and over again. Still loves it at 5 1/2. Just depends on the child.

tjmw2727 I completely agree with you! My dd rode Tot when she was 6 and it was the preshow not the drops that bothered her. Her favorite ride was RRC which is a wilder ride. She did not like all the "spooky stuff". She would go again if it was just the drop part! She feels that she did it once and for know that is enough!

It's been 3 years since I've been on it, and I can't quite recall the pre-show. We were just there, but didn't go on this time. What part of the pre-show did your kids find really scary? I think if I prepare my DS well before he goes, it will help. I did that with the Haunted Mansion, and he felt he really knew the ride before he got on it. I've also requested the ToT movie from our library. That was a good idea. I remember seeing the movie for sale in the toy store at Disney Marketplace a couple weeks ago.

I don't know if it's so much the "pre-show" as the dark part of the ride before it starts. The storyline is about a group of people (including at least 1 young child) who are on the elevator when it gets struck by lightning. They disappear into the Twilight Zone, but show up as ghostly images a few times. (I haven't been on since the new drop sequences, so don't know how it's different now.) You ride through dark rooms, with weird images from the Twilight Zone show appearing before you, along with creepy music. A Rod Serling sound-alike talks about how the same thing is about to happen to you.

What gets my daughter are the bellhops. They act very somber, and will say things about how you're not likely to come back, etc. For some reason they really scare her.

When she was 4, we took her on the ride and she loved it. She even teased mom for being afraid of the drops and screaming so much. Next trip (4 1/2), she rode it once, seemed okay, but said once was enough. Last time (5), she didn't want to ride. I think that some kids get more scared as they get older, as they become more able to understand why things would be scary and their imaginations develop.

I think maybe the preshow in the library room is what freaks kids out.The room gets very dark with the old black and white T.V. coming on,Rod Sterling telling us the tale then a big crack of thunder and bolt of lightening and the lights go off. From past exprience with my one son, Erich, who use to be somewhat timid about dark rides, the MORE I can explain to him about what is going to happen the calmer he is that first time. The ghouls that pop up in Haunted Mansion use to bother him but he and I started screaming back at them and he LOVES that ride. Now he tells me when one is about to pop out! LOL! If you can show them video clips online that's a great idea. And ALWAYS remind them this is only make believe.
