If this was the case, couldn't the member simply have MS switch the points used for the reservation rather than having to cancel the vacations?

Depends whether it was booked before or after 7 months. You can switch points if you used home resort advantages.

Thanks everyone but I'm still waiting to find out if the transfer will occur w/ the points being in a holding status. The seller is down to a Baylake Tower contract after selling off his Animal Kingdom to me. I know this because he offered to transfer me Baylake points to compensate for the missing AK points. Since my Broker had no idea if this would work I opted against it. I figured the transfer had a better chance of occurring w/ all original points in tact! I will update when this is resolved- I'm sure it will be a happy ending, I just really want to get to the ending-)

I posted too soon as I found my points in my account last night after logging off here and onto member services. Even though 86 points are in holding, I have received my happy ending as I was able to book a value studio for the end of next June-) My girls are ecstatic! Thanks for listening to my ordeal and I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else!
