What do you set your heat at?

Living in New England and leave the heat on 64 all the time. Our home is very well insulated though and I am 8 months pregnant so maybe the hot flashes are not the norm! HA!

Back home we did too. If we were cold we put socks and a sweater on! Most of the time that temp was plenty warm though. I am naturally warm-blooded! Now that we are living in SC, I dont know what we'll do! We have electric heat....and we are very glad we arent paying for oil in New England this year!

It's not consistently *really* cold down here, but I set the heat at 67 during the day and 65 at night. The house usually warms up to the lower 70's by the sun during the day, but we just dress very warm to sleep. You get used to it! I actually like it cool at night.

Mine is the same as mrsv98....................67-68 in the day (We homeschool and are home all day.) and 66 at night.

We set ours for 68. If it gets really cold, we up it to 70. My husband is always hot and my daughter apparantly takes after him. I, on the other hand, am always cold, but I have learned to live with it. I wear thick, heavy socks and I love my flannel pj's. I keep extra blankets on the bed. I also have a cozy blanket I use when watching tv. I think I am going to buy those draft blockers you put in front of the doors this winter.

We got the same notice in our bill.

Ours is at 68 during the day, 70 for the wake-up, get dressed for school hour though, and 62 at night. The kids complain they are cold but when they stand there in short sleeved shirts, I don't listen. If it is any warmer then it is too hot to be moving around doing housework, etc. dressed in winter clothing.

mine is set at 65 during the day and 62 at night. My oldest DD is always complaining about it being cold , and it is cool in the house, but I am dreading the winter gas bills! We use a down comforter at night so I am never cold at night and during the day I dress in layers. I know once the temps really get low, I will need to bump it up a little bit. We also have a wood stove and I plan on using that during the coldest months.

Ours is set at 63. We don't change it for night/day. I have more of a problem with a change in temp than living with a low temp. We just wear fleece and slippers. None of us like the heat.

70 when we are up and awake and 67 at night, but that's because DH insists on it, I'd prefer 62 at night!

We set ours at 70 when we are home. During the day it is at 65.

Mine's at 68, but I may lower it to 66 if the 1st gas bill is too high. But that's only in the evenings, at night and durring the day when I'm at work it's set to 60 (and since it doesn't get that cool in the house, the heat stays off, saving money). When I am home, I wear a zippy sweatshirt, and when I'm watching tv I also have a blanket.

I'm really nervous about the 1st gas bill. This is our first winter in our home, so I have NO idea what to expect!!!!

Another cool household here. We have it set for 62 degrees at night(starting about 9:30PM), going up to 68 for about an hour in the AM(of course, this is after I've left for work  ), 62 degrees all day as no one is usually home and back to 68 at 4:00PM. Gotta get DH to reprogram it to go up to 68 earlier in the afternoon now that the warm weather has gone bye-bye!

I live in my fleece and flannel in the winter, but I love being cozy under a fleece blanket in the evening so it doesn't bother me too much. My DH is hot-blooded so rarely even puts on a sweater. He's the reason I stay warm at night - when he's not there I just can't seem to get warm!

It's so funny what 'too warm' or 'too cool' are for people in dfferent climates!

We're also in the northeast-on average it's set at 68 but we can set it for 60-62 at night. We cannot sleep in heat-you should see our AC bills in the summer!

Keep in mind that if you have too much of a gap between daytime temperature and night time temp (or at work vs. at home) that you may actually use more energy than if you keep it steady. Much more than 4-5 degrees difference and the heat has to stay on so much to warm your house back up that the energy savings are gone.

We have ours set at 64 during the night (and when we're at work) and 68 when we're home. :)

My heat is set at 68 during the day, 70 for a little while in the evening (we were so cold when we were watching tv that we had to up it for a couple hours from the 68 it was set at), and I think 62 bone-chilling degrees at night.

I also get cold easy. I have low blood pressure and am on a blood pressure medication for migraine prevention. I'm fearing that I'm going to be cold until April, except for the week I'm in Orlando in January.

I hate being cold in my house. I keep it warm enough that I can wear shorts and a tee shirt and be warm. Ususally it is 72 all the time but if I get cold it IS going up. I can't imagine wearing layers of clothes in the house.

I just checked and ours is set at 60 degrees, usually that is what it is at night, no wonder I am cold! :cold: We usually keep it set at 62 degrees during the day, but that just started recently.

Can I ask why you would set it lower at night? I can see lowering it during the day when the sun is out and your not home, but why freeze all night long? If I had my thermostat as low as some of you I would constantly be sick with colds and ear aches!!

Actually, you are more likely to get sick in a dry, overheated house than a cool one. At night, presumably, you are under some covers and the house does not need to be as warm as daytime. You can always add a sheet or blanket and be toasty warm. Optimal sleeping temp is around 65 degrees, and they say that babies do best in the cool temps (SIDS risk etc). But I live in the south and cold here is not the same as below freezing temps others may have! :teeth:

For us while we're at work it's set to 64 during the day. At night it's down to 62. We will bump it up to 68 - 70 when we get home for a couple of hours. I hope it's going to be a good winter.
