What do you recommend at JIko?

PS: Do you think they'd do that "what you're most proud of" thing on the DxDDP? This is our first time on it, and we did it so we could do a bunch of signatures, but not sure if they'd serve us a whole ton of their best food... plus there's my whole "no baby animals" rule. No lamb or veal!? Chefs wept.

While I don't know what the DxDDP rules are, I think they allow one app, one entre, and one dessert per person, correct?

If so, I can't see why the Chefs couldn't work with it.

:wizard: The secret? :wizard:

Tell the server when you arrive, that you would like the Chef to pick whatever they are most proud of on the menu, from the apps to dinner to dessert. Explain to your server if you have allergies, but let the Chef choose within those parameters.

Great idea! Both my guest and I are foodies. I am sure she would be all for a "chef's choice" menu. Altho all the suggestions made here look so yummy! I guess we'll just have to go more than once to try everything!

Thanks for that tidbit. The best meal I ever had out was when the Chef invited us to "eat blind". It has never occured to me to challenge the Chef. Now come to think of it my sister who is a Chef would view this as an honor

I had the beef short ribs. Really delicious. My mom enjoyed scallops. I thought the chicken flat bread was tasty but it was kind of filling for an appetizer and you want to be able to enjoy your entree.

Absolutely, they view it as an honor and a challenge.

The terms to use are "serve us what YOU are MOST Proud of"

You will undoubtbly have the best, although sometimes not what you might have ordered.

I think I will try this at least once on my next trip. Going through the menus on All Ears, there is a lot I would consider ordering, so this might be a fun way to have my mind made up for me.

Maybe I'll get to eat as well as you and Kevin!

Just one question, if I told them no mushrooms, I wouldn't be served anything with mushrooms in it, would I?

I'll be eating at Jiko Tomorrow night while i'm there on business. I can't wait try the filet

If you tell them no mushrooms, do you mean allergy to mushrooms or a dislike?

Just tell them your preferences, and I am sure they will honor it.

It's just a dislike, a strong dislike. However, at one of the Party for the Senses I've attened their was a beef dish with something with mushrooms, and that was my favorite dish of the evening, despite the mushrooms. Go figure.

You get a lovely palette cleanser if you do the Sunset Safari, which is followed by a meal at Jiko. Ours was... um... geez. It's been a long time. Some sort of sour African red berry and white peppercorn. It was an interesting mix of sour/a little sweet/and a hint of spicy. Delicious, and my palette was thoroughly cleansed.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm the same with baby animals. And my BF could eat lamb all day... :sad2: I hate to admit the few times I've tasted lamb he's ordered, I liked it. He's looking for ward to the Jiko lamb. He's never been to WDW before and I honestly believe the Jiko menu is the thing he is most looking forward to because of the lamb...

As for me, Jiko is my favorite on site restaurant. (Marrakesh is #2 by the way... I will never understand why people don't seem to like it there). At Jiko, I usually order the filet or some sort of beef and I beeeegggggg the chef to send me out some tamarind sauce to put on it.

When I fist went to Jiko, they did not serve the beef with mac and cheese. :sad2: They served it with a delicious potato dish and tamarind sauce and it was to die for. I have no clue why they started serving it with m&c... seems very "not adventerous" to me. :confused3 BUT...Every time since, they have been more than willing to accomadate my request for the sauce. I think they are impressed that I like it so much. :rotfl:

But anyway...Jiko = Tamarind sauce. It's yummy.

For dessert, I think I'm going to get that cheesecake someone posted above. Last time I went I was there on my 30th birthday and they brought me out the pistachio creme brulee, on the house. It was amazing. I think I might *ahem* strongly encourge *ahem* BF to order that when we go. ;)

Jiko also has a really good wine list. I started a thread about wine at WDW and now I am really excited to try some of the ones people are mentioning!

My mom raves about the the Marrakesh lamb...just so your BF has something to look forward to there. I chose the ADR's and mom specifically asked to return. I told mom she would have to have lamb twice. I was surprised when the CM was impressed with Jiko and Marrakesh. He said I had some winners.

My wife always orders the Kenyan Coffee BBQ-Braised Beef Short Rib. I normally ask the waitress what the chef recommends and I go with that. I've never been disappointed. Jiko and Flying Fish are always very good and a "must-visit" each trip.

My DBF is Welsh, so he's always going on and on about Welsh lamb, Welsh lamb!! I accidentally ate lamb once... and liked it... *sigh*

The pistachio creme brulee at Jiko is the stuff dreams are made of. When we did the Sunset Safari, Sous Chef Anthony was our "guide" through our meal at Jiko, and the pistachio creme brulee is his personal invention. Go, Anthony! I believe he's now at Flying Fish.

I love the cheese and olive flatbread at Jiko, it is absolutely delicious. On occasion I get it take out, order it and sit at the bar while they make it.
