What do you recommend at JIko?

I have never been to Jiko before, so what's everyone's favorites from their menu?

Jiko's cheese plate changes based on what is ripe / ready. Having said that, when I get home tonight, I'll post what was on that lovely plate of heaven for us.

Kevin and I are HUGE cheese nutz and will try anything at least once or twice.

Having said that we thought the cheese was GREAT!!!!

We went in december and can't wait to go back in September.

For appetizers, Lamb patis and olive flatbread - this was my favorite. very crisp bread even dh liked it and he can't stand olives

Dh also got a soup. I can't remember the name but dh loved it. He was licking the bowl.

Then I got the filet with mac-n-cheese. The mac-n-cheese was delicious. The filet was cooked perfectly and the red wine sauce was so good together. Dh got the scallops and they were very tasty as well.

For dessert we shared the cheese plate which I loved. They did a perfect job putting pairing the cheese with complements.

I love the ahi tuna apptz., the filet served over mac & cheese with red wine sauce is phenomenal.

And I love chocolate so I ordered this Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake, with lavender icecream. It was too wonderful! And don't forget to try the Kenyan French Pot Coffee!

For appetizer, we get the Taste of Africa and the Sampler, shown here (sorry, the group started digging in before I got the perfect picture):

The Chantaralle Soup with Pumpkin Seeds is one of the best things I've ever tasted:

I've eaten at Jiko at least a dozen times and this was the first time I'd gotten that soup. I guarantee I'll never eat here again and skip it. It was by far the best soup I've ever tried and the best single item I've ever had at Jiko.

For an Appetizer - Taste of Africa (Very large - enough to share)

For Dinner - The fillet is to die for! If you're a picky eater you can get the mac and cheese on the side.

The chicken is also very good, though mine last week was different than what is pictured above - it came on a corn base.

We skipped dessert last week, but enjoyed the creme brulee in Ocotober.

Tell the server when you arrive, that you would like the Chef to pick whatever they are most proud of on the menu, from the apps to dinner to dessert. Explain to your server if you have allergies, but let the Chef choose within those parameters.

But honestly I don't believe most people would do that from reading the DIS. Most people on the DIS appear to be picky eaters or not very adventerous.

Kevin and I are huge foodies, who are willing to try anything, and our allergies are just to pecans, and a dislike to bell peppers, otherwise anything else is open and fair game for food.

During our 9 days trip the week before Easter, we only chose our meals once in the entire time. Every other time we asked the Chefs to choose for us.

While I can't assure you of the palate cleansers, I will tell you, everytime we let the Chefs choose, we have WONDERFUL meals.

We have not done that review yet.

Honestly, it is a couple of weeks off, we have 4 other venues to write about first.

You get a lovely palette cleanser if you do the Sunset Safari, which is followed by a meal at Jiko. Ours was... um... geez. It's been a long time. Some sort of sour African red berry and white peppercorn. It was an interesting mix of sour/a little sweet/and a hint of spicy. Delicious, and my palette was thoroughly cleansed.

PS: Do you think they'd do that "what you're most proud of" thing on the DxDDP? This is our first time on it, and we did it so we could do a bunch of signatures, but not sure if they'd serve us a whole ton of their best food... plus there's my whole "no baby animals" rule. No lamb or veal!? Chefs wept.

I agree. While I myself am a "foodie," I find a lot of reviews by self-described picky eaters. There in a good place for their pickiness though, since Disney does a lot to please their guests.
