What do you pay per minute for long distance?

I'm going through our bills & trying to find places we could still be saving. We have pay as you go cells & unlimited LD through our home phone for an additional charge. I'm not ready to give up my home phone & as the kids' friends call there. But I'm wondering if calling cards or a different cell would be better for long distance calling?

Short of not calling my family :rotfl: , how do you save money calling long distance?

We don't have a pay per minute plan, but thought I would mention: We used to have AT&T long distance with unlimited calling and it was costing me nearly $60 a month. I got an offer in the mail from the local cable/phone/dsl company whom we had cable and dsl through, for unlimited long distance for $15.99 a month for 12 months! I called and had it done the next week and I have been getting that same service as I had through att for a fraction of the price. I hear if you call after the 12 months and say you'll cancel if they raise the price, they'll just keep the price the same for you. It's funny because I keep getting mailers for ATT now trying to get me back, but they keep quoting prices that are a good 15-20 dollars higher than the local plan.

Bottom line, I would call around and see what offers you can find with other companies. ATT is NOT cheap, we are now looking to possibly cancel one cell phone and maybe switch the other to another company. (I do realize you never said you use ATT, but this is just my example) You might be surprised to find out what is out there if you go with a different company!

We have cable phone + internet + TV all for less than we used to pay in long-distance.

I see you're in Omaha. If you have Qwest, it used to be $20 a month for unlimited. I'm not sure if it's still the same price, I worked there three years ago.

There are companies that still charge for long distance domestic calling? I don't think I've paid long distance domestic since 2000 or so.

I call Italy a lot, and that only cost me six cents a minute on my mobile phone (plus a flat $3.99 monthly charge).

ECG is what we use. I seriously do not call long distance hardly ever use our home phone to call out of state so our bill is like $7.00 for 3 months.

I would call around to your local cable and phone companies. We found the best deal with our local cable company.....High Speed Internet and Phone, which included local, regional, and long distance (pluse 2 services such as call waiting, caller id, etc.) - for $59.95/month. This saved us about $30 per month from what we were paying before for both services.

We have Embarq and pay $ .10 a minute.

(Oops, guess I answered your main question but not the others. I don't have a way to save on long distance, sorry.)

We've used onesuite.com for years. I buy $10 of long-distance minutes (think it's like 3 cents/minute, it'll be on their site -- know I get ~ 300 minutes each time). You can buy minutes on-line or on the phone, I like doing it on-line when I see I'm down to 15 minutes or so.

Am curious about free long-distance over the internet that I'd read about sometime ago, as I suspect that is exactly what onesuite is doing.

We use BigRedWire. It's only a few cents per minute for out-of-state calls with no minimum charge. Our typical long distance bill is under $5 per month.

We have verizon for home and cell and I don't pay any long distance on my phones.

We got rid of long distance and bought a phone card. It's like 4 cents a minute.

We have our home phone with the cable company so no long distance charges.

At our office we have the phones on a Verizon Freedom (or something like that) plan and no long distance charges there either.
