What do you pay for tax preparation?

I live about 10 miles out of Boston (middle-class, no wall street stockbrokers) and see the same prices. I can't believe a CPA would charge anyone but a close friend under $100. I used to pay around $225 till I played around with some tax software and saw that it wasn't overly complicated.

As other posts in this thread show (and a similiar one on the CB a week or so ago), it happens.

We charge between $50 for kids W-2 returns to $500 for complicated farmers.

We go to a CPA (retired and does this for extra money) and it's always around $150-170.

We just went last night and it was $160. Well worth it!
