What do you pack for your trip and how many suit cases per person? I am going the last week of Aug

There are some great packing lists on AllEarsnet.com

[I believe you are "allowed" two suitcases per person on the airline--we always try to stick to one per person--easier to handle]

for DS & myself this Aug for 2 wks Im planning on putting everything in our 2 large suitcases and 1 medium - they all have wheels
and we will ea have a carry-on bag
DS13 can take 1 of the lg rolling suitcases and his backpack
Im thinking I can handle the other lg, carry the medium and take a carryon

anymore than this and I dont think DS & I could handle it - we're switching hotels twice

We have a family of 4 and this is how we pack.

We have 2 boys and they each have a rolling suitcase to be checked in and a back-pack for the plane. The back-pack has entertainment stuff(Walkman/Gameboy etc....)and the essentials in case the luggage is lost.

DH and I each get a checked duffel and a carry-on bag same as the boys.

Then we have a suitcase of snacks,my pillow and shoes.Odd combination I know, but it works for us  .We also pack 2 duffel bags that zip themselves up into a flat square that takes up almost no room.We use these for the way home for our souvineers (we'd never fit all the stuff we buy plus what we packed to bring in the original suitcases!).

Depends how long you're going for, and who is going. If you can stick to carry-on, life is easier. I try to wear some of the heavier things I'm bringing (plus, it's often chilly on the plane) - jeans, sweater. (but no big jewelry, metal lined shoes or high heels - think about that security check when you dress for the airport). Once I wore a new dress, only to find out at security that it had a small, hidden store security tag sewn into it. Nearly had to be escorted into the back room, but I was able to hold my dress up a little to reveal it. Compact items are a good idea. Make certain all prescriptions have their original labels. For travel, I try to have interchangeable outfits - if all your clothes are black and white, for example. Make sure tweezers and nail clippers are in a checked bag. I like the idea of ziploc bags for kids' outfits (put each day's complete outfit in a ziploc bag), but haven't tried it yet. Always leave room in your suitcase for new items acquired on your trip. :earsboy:

For a week we pack 2 suitcases for the 4 of us (kids are 2 & 4 so their stuff is small LOL) and that includes any non crushable food items & diapers for the week. We always pack a duffle bag in the suitcase for the return trip.

On the plane we have 2 suitcases for the kids, and my purse.

Now that we are DVC & have a washer/dryer I could probably get it down a bit for an August trip (hotter weather). I pack 3 outfits per person, plus one semi dressy outfit, no matter how long we go for.

Depends on what you plan to do and if you mind doing laundry!

If you're strictly casual, coordinating shorts, tanks, tees, one pair of long pants, a windbreaker type jacket (A/C can be nippy, and the windbreaker doesn't get soaked too quickly in the rain), 2 pairs of very comfortable shoes (forget fashion, you're going to be walking 2+ miles daily) and undergarments of your choice. Also, prescriptions in their original containers, contact lenses (spare pair)/eyeglasses and related supplies, OTC medications and personal care (aspirin/pain reliever, sunscreen, insect repellent with DEET, etc.) and other items you require for survival.

I take one checked bag and have a small wheeled duffel that I carry on. My carry-on contains two sets of underwear, one change of clothing, a small bottle of Woolite or dish detergent (emergency hand laundry if luggage is lost), eyeglasses and contact lens stuff, small personal care items (toothbrush & toothpaste, travel size shampoo & conditioner, brush, etc.), medications (prescription & OTC), a book and a couple of magazines for the flight (5 hours on Southwest).

Since my WDW trips usually are 9 days (7 days on site, plus a travel day on each end), I take five pairs of slacks (I don't wear shorts), 6 or 7 tops that roll or fold very small, 6 or 7 pairs of socks (wet feet are not fun and socks take quite a while to dry with the humidty), a light cardigan-style jacket, 2 pairs of walking shoes (wear one, pack one) and a pair of Birkenstocks that can go a bit dressy, a long skirt or long tank dress (I like to change from park mode one or two evenings), and necessary underwear. I do laundry about mid-point rather than carry additional clothing. All of the clothing coordinates so I can interchange the pieces to look slightly different. The additional personal care items are packed in my checked bag.

I also take a hat (very fair and burn easily) that can be scrunched into my shouldbag while on rides.

We have 1 extra large suitcase for my DD and I to share, and one large suitcase each for my DH and DS. We also pack an empty duffel bag for things we buy. Then we also take 2 backpacks--1 has on the plane entertainment/games/snacks and the other has a set of clothes for each person in case our luggage is delayed. We also have my DD's stroller (she won't use any other stroller but hers!), which gets checked. We only have the 2 backpacks as carryons for the plane, since we've got our hands full with the excited kiddos. ;)

Something to keep in mind (I wish someone had told me)

You have to bring your luggage into Orlando International and check it yourself - carrying it through the lines, moving it down ever-so-slightly, then they tag it and you have to transport it down to the luggage area and load it onto a cart yourself!!!

I WANTED TO SCREAM the entire time.

We almost missed our flight - even though we arrived TWO HOURS early - and it was SOOO hot and nightmare-ish. I HATE HATE HATE Orlando's airport.

Here we have curbside check-in and everything is very efficient.

So, with carseats for the plane, carry-on baggage, the camera, the diaper bag AND all our luggage and kids, it was awful. We won't fly again.
Take as few bags as possible and condense your carry-on needs to one bag. Take an extra duffle and smoosh it into a suitcase for souveneirs on the way home. And buy EVERYTHING down there - there is a wal-mart and a Sam's and you can get everything you need - medicine, diapers, towels, whatever. We joked that next time we'd buy all our stuff at Walmart AFTER we flew in and donate it to a Goodwill when we left.

Orlando has curbside check in for just about every airline not sure what happened when you were there.

The BIG thing to keep in mind is that while the concept of one GIANT suitcase sounds nice, if the suitcase is over your airlines weight and size limits it is going to get espensive.

We each check one rolling duffle and we carry on a small rolling carry-on and one backpack. I bring an empty tote bag to bring souvineers back home in.

I am going in June for a week and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can fit everything into a carry-on with wheels and my backpack. It would be wonderful to travel so light but I have a feeling I am going to be going with a slightly larger suitcase because I am an overpacker and I have already printed out the ultimate packing list... that thing could prove deadly :rotfl:

we're a family of four and we typically have a suitcase each for the adults (real suitcase for me w/wheels, which also contains all the "pillow gifts;" rolling duffle for dh) and a shared medium suitcase for the kids, plus a small rolling bag w/meds and sundries and such in it... i also have a tote bag that contains change of clothes/bathing suit for everyone on the way down and whatever doesn't fit in other bags on the way home) plus each kid has a backpack of entertainment (gameboys, cd players, cards, books, etc)... i would love to find a way to pack even less, but even w/doing laundry, i cannot seem to cut anything else out!

ETA: we were able to curb-check our bags at mco and we flew southwest!

We, a family of three shop-a-holics  , usually bring one suitcase and one carry-on each. We stow a packable duffle for extras.

We always do laundry at least once during the trip. We won't stay anywhere without a washer/dryer.

Therefore, the adults only need 2 pairs of pants/jeans, 2-3 pair of shorts, one sweatshirt, one jacket, 3-4 t-shirts, one long sleeved shirt. Undies and socks for half the trip.

For DS (4), multiply the above by two and include 3-4 sets of sweats/pjs.

Two pairs of shoes for each of us. For me, one of those includes comfy sandals.

If you're going in August, you probably don't even need the sweatshirt AND jacket. I'd just bring one or the other.

I'd say pack light! Do laundry! Bring a duffle bag for souvies...nuff said. :earsgirl:

Oh Yeah, and Have fun! princess:
