What do you miss most at WDW?

great thread...I'd forgotten how much I don't remember  !

I remember "flight to the moon" before they up graded it to Mars. I thought that the ride was down by COP someplace. I like "if I had wings" because you had the sensation of getting on a train and really going fast. The end of Buzz still still has the tunnel?
My favorite ride was the old figment. We had a great time there and also the ride at horizons. I liked 20000 leagues under the sea. I really got into it when we were diving on atlantis I really thought that I was deep under water. I think the reason why they closed the ride was that people with disabilites could not enjoy the ride with the rest of us. I miss the"house of the future"monsanto industries sponsored it. It was in DL. I like the bumper car like ride with air propelled craft at DL. I miss the painted desert ride at DL. This was the thunder mountain train going out into the west at DL. You can still see the boarding area. The town at the end of the ride "Thunder Mountain" was the area. I miss seeing the canoes and mike finks boats. They were redoing the canoe area at DL for some reason never found out why. They used to have control line model plane shows at DL I liked watching them fly. I went on Mr. Toad at DL before it went. The ride was ok but it wasn't like Peter Pan. If you want to compare Toad to Pooh they should have left it as is. I think everyone who has been to Disney more than once has seen something they really enjoyed go by the way side. I saw where people liked the old tiki show, I did to. I also like the new show. So I guess when the time keeper and COP finally goes then I will be sad like everyone who has enjoyed them throughout the years. There will be other things to tweek our senses but lets hope they are as good as the things they replace. I miss Kong to and I didn't know Church Street Station was gone:confused:

I miss the Skyway and 20,000 Leagues the most...closing them instead of addressing their shortcomings ranks as two of the most shortsighted decisions the Imagineers have ever made in the MK.

Of course, I loved If You Had Wings and its successors but Buzz Lightyear's SRS was a major improvement in that space. And I am pleased to see that AE has been killed...a mean-spritied attraction that had no place in the MK. Stitch will be a HUGE hit with everyone. So kudos to the Imagineers for those decisions!

Finally, I must admit that I will miss the Diamond Horseshoe review. I haven't seen the new show yet so I cannot say if this is an upgrade but I liked the original show.

I have seen AE mentioned here several times. We went on it one time. I must admit I didnt get it. By Disney standards it seemed to fall short. I hope with the addition of Stitch and some upgrades it will be worth trying again. Just my opinion.

I miss the old Innoventions. I don't remember a whole lot about what it was like when I was a kid, but I do remember that there was a big counter thing that showed the approximate population of the world and it added a couple of people per second. Really impressive for a kid. I also remember it being really interactive and fun. The way it is now just feels like you are in a commercial. We don't care for it at all.

I don't remember the counter thing, but I do remember all kinds of activities for kids. Kind of like walking into Discovery Place for those of you that know what that is. It was alot of learning stuff, not just games like it is now.

Horizons and Tapestry of Nations.... I never got to experience 20,000 leagues.... I recall the sky-tram at MK used to be kinda fun.

I'd turn the clock back one time to experience these one more time.

I am really upset to hear AE is gone. I am taking my sister next year for her first visit to WDW and she would have loved it.

I also miss Journey into imagination with Figment
the old Tiki room
the Crystal Palace Cafeteria and the other restaurants that have turned into character meal venues
also add my vote to those who hate the hand and the hat
what I missed most on my last visit was the Diamond Horseshoe Review

I loved ToD. The music always brought a tear to my eye.

I thought Journey into imagination with Figment was still there (was there in May 03)???

thanks

I miss:

- Backstage tour - when you actually got to see TV shows/ Movies being filmed
- Disney Hadwiches - yum..

- Diamond Horseshoe Revue (when you could eat lunch there)
- Lunch at Aunt Polly's Landing (now it's just snacks)
- 20000 leagues - one of my favorites when I was a kid - I wish I cold take my kids on it today
- Mission to Mars
- The original Monster Sound Show with Chevy Chase and Martin Short
- Bonfamille's - some of the best food on property

I miss 20,000 leagues, Horizons, the original Imagination ride with the 'futuristic playground' when you get off, Captain EO (I love "honey...", but EO was a favorite of mine), original Tiki room and Mr. Toad's (got to see them last year at DL tho), the sky tram at MK and DL. I haven't been back since tapestry and Alien Encounter were removed. I know it got more than it's share of bad reviews, but I absolutely loved AE.

The Journey that is there now is NOT THE ORGINAL. It is the third verson of the ride. The first one was WAY BETTER than the two that have followed it. Figment and the Dreamfinder were the main charecters and they were shown throught the ride. Showing you how you can use your IMAGINATION. You should go to Digital Disney.com and down load the orginal. You will see what everyone is talking about.

The second version of the ride, was just boring, the creaters did not use their IMAGINATION at all. I have not yet been on the third one, but from what I have read on the message boards all they did was add Figment to the second version of the ride. If that is all they did then I will not be impresed.

I miss Horizons and Tapestry of Nations! DH and I have a picture on our 7th wedding annivesary in front of the Horizons building in a kiss just after we came out. :love2: I'm so glad we took that picture now. Oh yeah, I miss the original Journey Into the Imagination. I'm so glad I took that picture with the stuffed Figment back then also.

Can you give the URL for the Digital Disney site? It is not www.digitaldisney.com. i already tried that.

As for the current version, its definitely better than the 2nd version but still lousy compared to the original. I still have no idea why they changed one of the best loved rides they had.

Steve

P.S. I found it on Google. http://198.65.141.39/

I love that site. They also have a video of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. And the old Kitchen Kabaret show that is now replaced with Food Rocks.

Oh boy, what do I miss..... I miss the immersion of the older attractions. The new ones seem to be more of a slam-bam moment...thrills over substance. I miss the music of the older attractions...and the older music of some of the current ones.

In MK, I miss Mr. Toad. The Pooh ride is nice, in a not very involving way. The Skyway ...it was magical to plan to be on the skyway during the fireworks show. The Main Street Electical Parade and Baroque Hoedown. Even the 20K League ride...I didn't like it, but it was a quiet moment for me since the rest of the family went!

Epcot is probably the park I get most nostalgic for. Horizons and the smell of the oranges...choosing your own ending (my kids fought over which one got to choose). I've ridden Mission Space twice and agree that it's a technological marvel, but again, it's a sensory overload experience rather than an immersive one. World of Motion versus Test Track. Same comment. Imagination...well, at least this one is better than the original replacement. Neither come close to the original. One of my fondest memories is of my kids playing with Figment and Dreamfinder outside the attraction. The original music from Spaceship Earth...Tomorrows child. Wistful, sort of ethereal and just right for the space. The preshow before this one for HISTA...the music was fantastic....True Colors...I've tried to find it online, but only found the Phil Collins version which I don't like. Even the original music for Universe of Energy was memorable.

At AK, most of the changes have been acceptable, if not memorable. The new area around Dinosaur is a little cheesy, but must admit Tricerotops Spin is not bad for what it is. Just not the originality that I'd come to expect from WDW.

At the Studios, most of the changes have been positive. With the Hollywood theme thrill rides seem more acceptable here, and the ones that have been done have been well executed and well themed. I do miss watching shows in progress during the backstage tour. Also miss the Bette Midler portion (but not the bee blue screen)!

Having said all that, I still feel that a day at Disney beats a day almost anywhere else, hands down! For the last several years my son was in school in Tampa, so I managed 3-4 trips a year (to see him of course!). Now he's home, and my husband told me I can still go at least once a year! He figures that if I had to have a mid-life crisis, going to Disney beats the other alternatives!

I think you hit the nail on the head here....while I personally enjoy the newer trill type rides they do lean more toward a"Cedar Point" type ride ( with some more theming) than an old Disney attraction which is what made Disney so different. (& why my husband will not step foot into Cedar Point unless bound and gagged but loves Disney)

I definitely miss Horizons the most!! That used to be my favorite ride in Disney!! :)
