What Do You Make For Your Vacation?

jtanddolly....

WOW! I have looked at your shared file for about an hour and I am totaly taken away at whet you do...WOW...I have so much to do and I feel I have so little time...

I would love to make my kids some letters but I am stuck in that I have no idea how you got the font for Mickey...can you help. I would have sent you a PM but I can't cause I'm new...

Here is how you download the "waltograph" font which most call the Disney font:
• Go online to www.dafont.com
• Search, find and open a font called “Waltograph”
• Click on the “Download” button
• Then click on “Open”
• Next you will need to unzip the file. In most computers, a screen will pop up with a box on the left that says “folder tasks” and in the box click on “extract files” Follow the prompts by clicking “next” and “finish” making sure that the final box has a check mark next to “show files”
• A new box will pop up. In this box, copy “Waltograph42” and “WaltographUI”. Do this by holding down your “control” button on the bottom left corner of your keyboard and click each file. Then on the top of the screen click on “edit” and in the drop down box click on “copy”.
• Next click on your computers “Start” button
• Then click on “Settings”
• Then click “Control Panel”
• Then open the file that says “Fonts”
• At the top of the font screen click on “Edit” and then in the drop down menu click on “Paste”

You can also find a font called "mickey" and "minnie" at www.dafont.com. They are good fonts to use as well for DISigns.

A great place to find images of disney characters is www.disneyclips.com to use with your DISigns. If you save them to your pictures (instead of copying and pasting) they are set up without backgrounds so they are great for layering images.

If you have MS Word go to the "How to DISign using MS Word" thread as it will teach you how to personalize blank DISigns and make some of your own like name fills:

I'm going to do my own version of the Magical Greeting Boxes in the room and I'm looking for ideas. I'm making one for each of our DSs (5 & 12) and this is what I have so far.

T-shirts for each day
Hidden Mickey book for DS 12
Mickey Ears or coupon for DS5
Glow Sticks
Coupons for Treats
Lanyards with Autograph books

I'm also going to make backpacks for each of them for the trip down that will be filled with games, etc. And I plan to have invites every day for our TS meals.

Any other ideas from anyone? I'm new to this stuff.

Here is a quick reference guide for everything posted so far:

COUNTDOWN CALENDAR OR COUNTDOWN CHAIN: Mel makes countdown chains and they can be found in her thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2018621

HEARD YOU WERE COMING TO VISIT DISNEY LETTERS:
All children love to get letters in the mail and what better than to get a letter from their favorite character! Ohana90 has some in her files

TRAVEL BACKPACK:
fill it will all things Disney or travel games. For just $10 you can fill up a backpack at most dollar stores. You can find...playing cards, puzzles, crossword puzzles, coloring books, crayons, pencils, games, squeeze bottles/drink cups...the list goes on. Keep your eyes open and look in the game isle and the office supplies. Then add a luggage tag to the outside of the backpack. Also, www.momsminivan.com is a great place to find travel hints and free printable games like travel bingo, travel battleship, etc. and a long list of games to entertain kids with while you travel. Scroll through this thread to get ideas and see a picture of one mom's travel backpacks...I think on the second page: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2005108&page=2

T-SHIRTS

INVITATIONS:
Lots of people make invitations for meals or special events like Bippity Boppity Boo Make Over, MNSSHP, or character meals. You can slide them under the hotel room door each night so that everyone has a surprise when they wake up in the morning.

Examples of invites:

WELCOME LETTERS:
you can hang these on your hotel room door or leave them in the room for your family to find.

YOU’VE BEEN GOOD TREATS:
you can leave these on the pillows for everyone in the family to find when they get back from a GREAT day at the Disney. These can also be found in Natalie's shared file under "Gift Tags".

IMG_0237.jpg

For the treats themselves you can make gum wrappers, candy bar wrappers, nugget wrappers, life saver wrappers, mint tin covers...all made by wonderful designers and some of them make the candy look like characters themselves. You don't have to give big treats...just a small piece of candy with the letter will make anyone in your family smile. I made a lot of Telynn's and you can find them in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1787936&highlight=nugget

Here is an example:

PRESSED PENNY TUBE LABELS:
there are two types one for M&M tubes to put quarters and pennies in to buy the pressed pennies and a Mentos tube to put the pressed pennies in. You give them to your children with quarters and pennies inside so they can make press pennies as they find machines all over the park. There is actually a website that lists where the machines are and what the picture is that they make. Then you can use them in scrapbooks or even make bracelets with them for girls.

LAUNDRY TUBE LABELS:
these are similar to pressed penny tubes but instead you can keep laundry money in them.

KIDS JOURNALS:
journals for your kids so that they can write in them at the end of the day so that they can have a record of the wonderful memories. Natalie has elaborate pages that you can use or you can download one that uses less ink and is set up in a Word document here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/21423885/21608dff/WDW_Kids_Journal.html

AUTOGRAPH BOOKS:

PILLOWCASES:
If you don't want to carry around a photograph book or you want something fun to have signed at character meals, you can make autograph pillowcases. They are also great to take on a cruise and leave with a CM on the first day and they will have the characters sign them. They are also fun to make to decorate the beds in your hotel room.

EPCOT PASSPORTS:
These are lots of fun to take around to the different countries in Epcot and CM’s from that country will stamp and write a note in their native language. Natalie has some great Epcot Passports that you can make for your family in her file http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r132/donatalie or here is another thread with a different passport DISign: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2195829

DOOR MAGNETS:
If you ever go on a Disney cruise you will need to make magnets for your door. Milliepie has some wonderful DISigns in her files:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/19077581/4fa6c900/sharing.html

FISH EXTENDER:
you will have to make or buy a fish extender and participate in a gift exchange if you go on a Disney cruise. Here is a link to Fish Extender thread so you can find out what it is and how it works: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

DISNEY DOLLARS:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1756989
Make a chore chart for each child and at the end of the week give them "Disney Dollars" to keep in a Disney money envelope (look for DISigners that make these on this site). The "Disney Dollars" represent the money that they have earned and can spend while at the World. It is fun for them to collect and if they loose them...there is no real money lost before the trip. Then right before you go, count and collect the Disney Dollars and trade out for the real thing that you keep in your backpack/purse for spending money while at the World with a personalized disney money envelope. That way each child's money is secure and you can quickly tell each one how much they have left to spend.

BOTTLECAP NECKLACES

I haven't posted anything new in a while and just thought of one fun thing that I have seen people doing on the boards...THROWING DISNEY PARTIES! Some people throw a "Disney" party for their family (or get the group together that they are going with) to celebrated one month (or however long that you want to celebrate) until their trip. Other people throw a party as a way to tell their kids they are going to Disney.

Finally "Iluv2go2disney"...is planning on throwing a dinner party for her family the night before they leave on their trip. She is using animal prints as a way to surprise her family that they are going to be staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you want to do something similar...look in my 4shared files in the link in my signature, then look in the "parties" file for some fun printable things.

Ok so far I have comitted to making or am in the process of making (with the generous awesome help of the talented Disigners here):
2 Epcot Passports
4 5 x 7 autograph books ordered from artscow; dining and Star Wars
weekends together and regular charecters together
20 Tshirts- 7 shirst for each of my children; 8 shirts for me; 5 shirts for DH (and thats pushing it with him)
6 dining invitations
2 SWW invitations
1 Stroller tag

I have been tossing around M&M tubes for penny's in my head but keep looking at my growing list and have decided to leave that alone for now.

STROLLER LICENSE PLATES

To make, you will definitely want to print your license plate on cardstock paper. I highly recommend getting it laminated so that it will make it through your trip to Disney. You can buy a relatively inexpensive laminating machine at Walmart. You can also take it to be laminated any office supply store or copy/print shop. I attached mine with cable ties to the handle of my stroller. Make sure you don't tie it tight. You will want to leave some slack for it to dangle below the handle so that you can still get your fingers/hand around the handle. Hope that makes sense! If you have a basket under the stroller you can attach it to that as well, but I prefer it on the handle so that I could see it and quickly locate my stroller.

You can also use these for wheelchairs and electric scooters!

Hi Dolly --- I am thinking of using one of the family disigns from Tebi73 and putting it on the wheelchair. Do you know the size..or would you recommend taking one of the stroller signs and making it the same size.

I don't know a good size to recommend for a wheelchair. I would suggest (if you have the wheelchair) holding up a blank 8.5x11 sheet of paper over the area where you would hang the image. If you like the 8.5x11 size go with that...if not fold it in half and see if you like the smaller size. Hope that helps.

I knew I was addicted to making stuff a few months ago but I think my addiction is rising.

My original plan was to make 5 shirts for me, DS12 & DS5 and that was it.

However now, my plans have gotten much bigger. I'm planning to make:

Activity Books for DS5 & DS12
Drawstring Back packs for each kid for their stuff in the car
5 shirts for me, DS12, DS5 while on the trip

1 shirt for my DDad and my DSmom (With the possibility of more)
2 shirts for DH
1 Welcome Letter
Candy treats
Magical Greetings boxes for DS5 & DS12 with their shirts, hidden mickey book, passports, autograph books and coupons.
Coupons & Passports for DH for drinking around the world
Invitations for every TS meal
Key chain for my bag with a large Green Mickey head to show I'm a Diser
Buttons for me and DS12 to show how many times we've been to go with the 1st time button for DS5
Thanks a Mint packages

And last but not least, I have Lady and the Tramp stationary for our dog for when she goes to Grandma's for the week.

HELP!

I just love this thread and can't wait to start making Disney stuff for our WDW vacation and cruise next year. :yay:
