What do you like to make in your Crock Pot?

What about the famous DIS crockpot meatballs? No one posted that yet? or is it becasue all us DIS crock potters know it already,

If not.....here it is

Bag of frozen homestyle meatballs
cup of grape jelly
cup of ketchup (or your favorite BBQ sauce)

mix all together so meatballs are covered in sauce

cook on low for 3 hours.

During the holidays I bring these as an appetizers. But the kids LOVE them so much that I have been known to make these for dinner for them and let them eat with toothpicks.

Grape jelly meatballs are always a huge hit when I make them. I use a similar recipe, but instead of using ketchup I use Heinz chili sauce.

Bag of frozen meatballs (Sams or Costco)
1 large jar of Welch's grape jelly
1 jar of Heinz Chili sauce

In a large pot I mix the grape jelly and chili sauce and let it simmer until melted together. I put the meatballs in a crock pot, add the jelly mixture, and cook for about 3 hours. They're FAB, and people are always asking for the recipe!

Well as I mentioned previously, my crock pot cooks VERY VERY fast and they are done. My verdict???

OMG....DELICIOUS!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: This is going to be my new "appetizer" to bring to dinner dates!! :lmao:

BBQ sauce is VERY good and I would think that is makes it more like a sweet/spicy versus just sweet!!

Thanks!

told ya! :lmao: Now, please don't ever doubt me again :goodvibes

ooooh!! Please update. So you put the uncooked biscuits in the crockpot 45 minutes before eating??

Yes. The last 45 minutes those little biscuits cook in the broth, and become so yummy! This is one meal that all my people will eat. I've got a couple of really picky eaters, and this meal is a crowd pleaser. I figured that since I've got to go sit through 4 parent teacher conferences, I needed something comforting and soothing!

I :worship: to your devine cooking wisdom!!! Do you think Rachel Ray knows about these??? :lmao: :lmao:

Now that's what I'm talkin about.

Actually, I can in no way take credit for these. I found this recipe on the Christmas appetizer thread from 2006. To tell you the truth - my comments we're pretty much the same as yours. I couldn't believe they were going to be good and then I ended up eating crow. :goodvibes

Or at least a few meatballs, right???:rolleyes1

does anyone have any good meat free crock pot ideas? Stews, soups, whatever? We're easing into fall and the kind of days where those meals are just sooooo good! :goodvibes

First, thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I have gotten a lot of great sounding recipes.

I got this recipe off the Flylady's website several years back. I don't know who put it together but it is really, really good.

Crock Pot Roast

2 lbs. beef pot roast - whole
4 cloves garlic
salt
pepper

Wash pot roast and lay in crock pot fat side down. Slice garlic into thin layers and lay over the top. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
Set dial on low and let cook, covered, about 5 hours.

Sometimes relative to the shape of the roast, it will be done in 4 hours. Check to see if the meat easily pulls away.

Serve with mashed potatoes & gravy. See recipe for gravy below:

Gravy:
Juices from roast
1 tablespoon cornstarch
4 tablespoons milk or half-n-half

Dissolve cornstarch in milk or water and put into stovetop pan with crockpot juices. Cook over medium heat until thickened.

We would also serve biscuits.

I make stuff for chicken burritos in the crock pot. Really simple, just a couple chicken breasts and a jar of Pace picante sauce on low all day. Then shred the chicken and put in burritos, put some cheese on top and bake about 20 minutes to melt the cheese.

I've been thinking of adding rice though. Should I add rice at the beginning and let it cook all day? Then should I add some water?? I usually add none. thanks!!

Anyone know about the rice? I was going to make this today?

And do most of you put your chicken in raw or frozen? I've heard people do both............

then I ended up eating crow. :goodvibes
Now, when you cook that crow, did you do it on high or low setting? Any liquids or anything else thrown in for flavor?

Oh, and do you leave the head attached or cut it off before cooking?:rotfl2:

It's as simple as this:

1.Dump a can of fat free chicken gravy in the bottom of the pot
2.Sprinkle a tsp of poulty seasoning over the gravy. Drop a bay leaf in.
3.Place boneless chicken breast on top of gravy
4.Dump some cutup carrots on top of chicken
5.Dump some cutup red bliss potatoes on top of carrots
6.Dump a can of fat free chicken gravy on top of potatoes.

I cook it while at work. I serve it with biscuits. Yummy

Crock Pot Roast

Thanks for posting your variation on it. I think we all like to see the different ways people cook "the same ol thing" I hope to do my first Crock Pot Roast this weekend - I need all the tips and advise I can get! ;)

this thread is making me hungry and it's too late to do a crock pot meal:thumbsup2

I know how you feel - by the time I decide a crock pot meal would have been good - its too late - I'm already at work. Guess its just gonna be a weekend kinda thing for me....

Anyone know about the rice? I was going to make this today?

I am pretty sure you can put the rice in when you put your other ingredients in. Just make sure there is enough liquid going on to cook the rice in.

The chicken - I think it depends on the kind of chicken you are using. Chicken breasts tend to dry out so I'd put them in frozen and they would cook up just right. Dark meat chicken you can put in raw- it won't dry out as easily.
Let us know how it turns out!! :thumbsup2

This sounds great - I love a chicken pot pie - and this looks so easy!
I LOVE EASY!!!

I would do the rice separately. I imagine that it's similar to cooking a soup or something. I know when I make soup if I put the noodles or barley in at the beginning and let it go all day it is nothing but mush, if you can see it at all. I would just make the rice shortly before dinner and then mix it in with the crock pot goodies

I don't know if this is posted somewhere back in this thread, but it is time for apples! So here is applesauce made in the crock and it smells sooooo good all day!

Applesauce
Peel, core and quarter 6-8 baking apples.
Put apples in crockpot and sprinkle with:
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
Add:
1/2 cup water
Dot with 2 Tbl butter

Cook on high 3 1/2 to 4 hours or on low 7 1/2 to 8 hours. Mash when done cooking.

Ive tried a few different things unsuccessfully, so I stick to the basics. I love making a roast in the crock pot. Made one yesterday in fact. Put the roast in, quarter some red potatos, cut up carrots, toss in some sliced mushrooms and sprinkle with onion soup mix. Make sure there is water in there, set it to low and cook it all day. Its sooooo yummy.

My Mom makes her version of Pigs In A Blanket in the crock pot:

1 Package Hot Dogs
1 Lb Bacon
1 Box Brown Sugar
1 Cup Water

Cut Hot Dogs into 3 bite size pieces. Cut Bacon strips in half. Wrap a piece of bacon around each hot dog bite and secure with a toothpick.
Put the hot dogs in your crock pot. Pour Brown sugar and water over them. Cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. Mix occasionally to coat each piece in the brown sugar. (Careful with the toothpics though...)
We eat them right out of the crock pot!
Super Easy - Super Good - Great Game Day Idea!! :thumbsup2
