What do you leave at the cemetary?

For our Dad's grave we usually just leave Christmas flowers and attach an ornament. Last year I left a jingle buddy fireman (he was a fire chief for our county). The cemetary does not allow anything not in or attached to the flower holders.

My mom usually puts a yule log on my brother and grandparents graves. It is a planter type box made out of a log and filled with greens and usually a few silk flowers. They sell them at a lot of the nurseries and farmers markets around here. Another popular item in that cemetary is the evergreen wreaths on the stands. They don't have headstones there (just plaques in the ground) so there is nothing to attach a wreath too. They also turn down the vases for the winter, so you can't use them.

She has also bought holiday yard stakes in the past (not just for xmas but for other holidays too). She also has one of those mini garden flag things at my brothers grave and she changes the flag seasonally. She has only lost one flag so far, but she thinks the wind blew it off (but it might have been stolen for all she knows)......

Maybe we need to leave signs saying, "This area monitored by video surveillance," for those incredibly selfish people that steal items from graves! Do you suppose they take these things all the way home with them, or do they just place it on their relative's grave? I think I've heard everything now! :guilty: My MIL puts nice silk flower arrangements on the family graves. I believe she puts silk poinsettias out at this time of year, but I've also seen her put white and red silk carnation arrangements out as well. I think it's a good suggestion to call ahead to see what's allowed. It never occured to me that there might be strict policies, but I guess it makes sense. The cemetery wants to make sure it looks nice for everyone who visits.

My sisters and I did grave blankets on our parents yesterday. We have a flag holder on mom's grave with mini flags that we change for seasons and holidays and my dad has an Army flag holder with an American flag in it. The only thing we've ever had stolen was purple tulips from mom's grave at easter two years in a row. I'm thinking someone likes to plant purple tulips in their yard
