What do you know about these towns?

If you do decide to check out St. Augustine, you might find this website helpful: http://www.oldcity.com/ I can't recommend seeing the old Spanish fort highly enough. It's so old and fascinating IMO. http://www.nps.gov/casa/

I saw that you mentioned ghost tours. One funny thing about St. Augustine was all of the ghost tours. We took one and we kept running into other ghost tours everywhere! Most tour the old city and the outskirts of it and some go as far as the haunted lighthouse.

Do I sound like a travelogue for St. Augustine? :teeth: I'm just real high on this little city. One nice thing is that it's a VERY easy drive to Orlando from the place. You just hop on the highway, drive south through Daytona Beach and before you know it you're in Orlando.

How cool! I didn't realize there were ghost tours in St. Augustine as well.. I wonder if that would make for a nice day trip from my sister's place instead of hitting it on the way down? She's in Lady Lake - about 50 minutes north of Orlando - pretty much in the center between the two coasts.. :flower:

St. Augustine, Florida - possible sleepover ***Gorgeous - WHole town is pretty much A-Okay....

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina - definite 2-night sleepover

Savannah, Georgia - one or two night sleepover ****ALl 3 of these places have good, not too good - and plain old *bad* area's. Check with their chamber of commerce and ask them to send you a map. The business districts are usually better.

Wilmington, NC is great. Well worth a sleepover. Great Barbeque (no tomato)
New Smyrna Beach is a lovely beach town just down the road from Daytona. They let you drive on part of the beach. It's quet and family oriented.

Rocky Mount, NC native here...

RM would be good for an overnight stop only. There's really not much there! On Winstead Avenue (the first exit on 64 East after you exit 95), there is a Residence Inn, a Hampton Inn, and a Holiday Inn. I think the other poster was right regarding the Holiday Inn being a bit run down. But there is a Texas Steakhouse and Saloon attached, which is very good. If you have time, I would definitely recommend stopping by Anne's Doughnuts, which are the best doughnuts in the world, ever. (And I know, as I've had doughnuts from many states and countries!) It's on Sunset Avenue next to the Sonic, about a 5-7 minute drive from those hotels. The hotel clerks would be able to tell you how to get there.

PM me if you need any more info.

Thanks all! Very useful info you have provided.. :flower:
