I just bought a resale at BWV of only 100 points -- all looks good and I think (and my broker thinks) it should go thru no problem. I originally wanted 200 points total per year and thought this 100 point resale would be a good way to start and save some $$$. I was planning on adding on the additional 100 points at the BCV once I close and have a membership # etc. I am now thinking I may add 150 points instead so would I have to wait till everything is done with my resale or just call Disney and purchase like as if I was starting from scratch and then once my resale is all done that will just be added into the computers as an addon or something like that. I hope I'm making sense!! I don't know how it would work with use years -- my resale is Aug and I would probably get Feb or March with BCV if buying now.

I am not sure I can clarify this at all. I thought the minimum points you could have initially was 150. I am not sure Disney blocks initial sales of less than that or not. At any rate, I would probably go ahead and get the 150 BCV anyway, since your 100 point contract wont close right away.

Congratulations!!!! I don't see any reason you couldn't go ahead with a BCV purchase right now since you're going to purchase 150 points. If you want the BCV use year to be the same as your resale, then you can request that of your guide. If possible I think he will try and accomodate your wishes. When we purchased BCV earlier this year, we decided a June use year would work best for us and it was no problem. Good Luck!

If I were in your situation, I would buy now at BCV and request an August use year. It will be much easier to manage two contracts if you have the same use year.

Also, I think you are going to have two membership numbers no matter what you do because one of your contracts is a resale. Ask you guide. He/She will know for sure and also if there is anything you can do about it. There's nothing wrong with having two (or more) membership numbers, it just takes more time and attention to manage your points so that you don't end up losing them.

I totally agree. Just ask your DVC rep for the same use year as your resale. It shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure about the assignment of 2 membership numbers. We bought 2 resales at different times and we only have 1 membership number. We do have 2 contract numbers - ending in .001 and .002. They have the same use year.

I think the DVC matches up the names and SS numbers and assigns the membership and contract numbers accordingly. This would only work if the owners are identical on both contracts. I think I read that you would get 2 separate membership numbers if you owned one contract with your spouse and another one individually.

But CarolMN is right, the best thing is to ask your guide! If you let the guide know about the resale contract, he/she may even make sure that they "link." We never made any such request with DVC. They did it automatically. They probably saw in their systems that we were already owners, and added the new contract to our membership.

Maybe if the new sale from DVC and the resale "hit" the computer systems at the same time, they may not "see" each other and assign two different member numbers? Can't hurt to ask your guide. I think that one membership number is much easier to manage because both contracts would be found under it.

Well, I left a message for my guide that I want to purchase 150 points at BCV but I did not mention the resale. I kinda feel guilty about the resale. Is this silly or what??

I'll tell him everything once he calls me back and we get the ball rolling on BCV -- thanks everyone for your input!!

I also said in my message that if possible I would like an Aug use year and I will hopefully be able to have 1 membership number for both contracts.

DOn't feel guilty about mentioning the resale. They know people buy that way. It is at a different resort anyway, which is not available directly from Disney.

Seeing this is your first ownership and it's less than 150 pts, you should be nervous no matter what the price per point is. I know DVC has allowed some go through in this situation but it appears they are more likely to excercise their ROFR regardless of the buy back price. The other question you raise is whether they will allow you do do an "add on" of less than 150 points in the situation you would be in if the BW sale goes through, I simply don't know the answer to that one. I wouldn't ask if you've decided on the full 150 points. Each contract will have it's own number but it appears for contracts the same use year they are based on a single base number.

You should have no problems getting August at BCV and I'd recommend it in the situation you're in unless you plan to make 2 trips a year with one of them being later spring or summer.

Reading my offering statement, the right of first refusal is simply an option for DVD to buy any contract at the same terms and conditions which it is being made available to the prospective buyer. So, DVD could buy the contract back - but I don't think they could "block" a purchase without buying it themselves.

LOL, some people around here get palpitations from pool hopping changes or talk of points season adjustments. The word nervous was simply to point out that DVC was more likely to buy back a contract less than 150 points regardless of the price. Rest assurd that DVC does excercise their Right of First Refusal. And while there will be other contracts, finding one of this size that otherwise fits the parameters is difficult. I'm not sure where the splitting of the contracts came from, you cannot do it. What you can do is sell add on contracts separately if you wish and DVC will have the ROFR.
