I'm looking for some ideas other than the usual.... jelly beans, M&Ms, change, chocolates. Sometimes we put in stickers or marbles.... but the kids are getting older. We have to start thinking of something new. And we hide LOTS of eggs!!! I have also put in seed packets, and tiny toys. ..................P

I don't know how old your kids are but how about Chuck E Cheese tokens?

We've used the usual candies, coins, and handmade coupons for doing other things later, i.e. trip to park, movie rentals, mini-golf.

My parents filled them with M&M's when we were little, and then put money in when we got a little older.

I have a stash of state quarters I'm considering filling the eggs with. Also thought of doing the coupon thing. Maybe for extra computer/video game time. OOOHHHHH just had a great idea for my guys - Blockbuster or Hollywood coupons. They love to rent video games & I usually get stuck paying for them. McDonald's gift certificates are a thought too.

Edited to add: My boys informed me that the egg hunt needs to be a bit more challanging this year because the eggs have been too easy to find in the past. They ASKED for it. :earseek:

Okay.... thanks for the help.... but I already mentioned change.... I need NEW ideas for an assortment of ages( 3-11), both girls and boys.....................P

We don't do much beyond candy and just a few trinkets in the baskets (trying not to make every holiday a gift-giving occasion) but here are some little items I can think of....the more expensive ones would of course only go in a few eggs. Some of these come in sets that could be split between eggs...
--matchbox cars (or the mini ones)
--Disney dollars if have a trip coming up
--playmobile people (they have a brand new Easter set this year)
--legos
--accessories for things they already have ie. doll clothes (shoes would fit) for DD's doll, train accessories if DS has a train set, etc
--fun shaped, decorative erasers
--dress-up jewelry for girls
--DD loves the little tiny lipsticks they have for kids at the drug store...they would fit
--barrettes and hairbows
--stickers

--a good place for other ideas is the party favor aisle at your local party store....they have tons of little things that would fit in eggs....and you can get them in singles or multi-packs

Have fun!

When I was a kid we didn't hunt for plastic eggs....we hunted for the dozens of Easter Eggs (hard boiled eggs) that we dyed a day or two before! I do the same thing now with my kids----we give them an Easter basket with candy and a couple of small toys and then we "hunt" for the real eggs...then make deviled eggs later! :p

We did this too as children, but after "forgetting" where a few of the real eggs were, I changed to plastice eggs instead. Since we do our egg hunts in the house (it's usually still a little cold here Easter time), I didn't want stray eggs left around the house.

We DO still color hard boiled eggs the night before and make a pretty display of them, we just don't hide them anymore.

I just filled 720 plastic eggs for our church's Easter egg hunt. I bought a bunch of little things from Oriental Trading. Since this is for a church, all the items have bible verses, crosses or "WWJD" kind of sayings:

mini yo-yos
super balls
small kaleidoscopes
magnets
stickers (bought on a roll of 100, then cut into singles)
temporary tattoos
bubble gum coins
shoelaces
small bracelets

I did fill about half of them with candy, but stayed away from anything that could melt. I used Tootsie Rolls, gumballs shaped like eggs, jellybeans, individually wrapped Lifesavers and Stawbursts.

We are also using theResurrection Eggs® to share the true meaning of Easter with the kids.

All great ideas!!

I usually put fruit snacks, change and dollars, mini packs of cookies, hair stuff, stickers, pretty much anything that is small enough to fit in those eggs!!!

Good luck with the ideas!!

My boys are 15 and older so it's just $$ in our Easter eggs.:D

I put candy, change and gift certificates to the movie theater. They certificates come in books for $10 and each book has (10) $1 coupons in it. I buy 2 or 3 books, so that will stuff 20-30 eggs. My girls love getting these. When they were smaller, they would also get hair accessories and play jewelry in the eggs.

If you are going to hide the eggs better, just make sure that you write down the locations. My Dad kept making it harder and harder until one year we didn't find 2 of the eggs. Hardboiled real eggs in the house might I add. Eventually the smell did lead us to them!!
