What do you feed your dogs???(ot)

I have a 9 year old miniature poodle - Ernie we have always fed him Science Diet - i was doing a survey on line and they wanted me to try Purina Beneful and i did and my dog loves it. Wondering if anyone else uses Beneful and if they like it?

I normally wouldn't say this, but since you asked...

I wouldn't feed my dogs either of those foods. Unfortunately, they're both loaded with chemicals and by-products that aren't healthy for your dog. Please read the article "Food Pets Die For" if you're really interested in hearing what's really in most commercial dog foods
I don't have the link right now, but you can google it and it's easy to find.

I've done a lot of research on pet foods since I used to breed Great Danes and they are very sensitive to food additives. For the record, I feed a mixture of Natural Balance dog food and human grade meats and vegetables.

I feed my collies Nutro brand dog food. My vet and the collie rescue group I volunteer for both recommend this brand.

I'd avoid both of those dog foods.

We feed Nutro Natural Choice large puppy formula right now. At some point, I'd like to switch to raw, but I want to wait until my youngest son gets a little bit older.

I've heard great things about Canidae, also.

My dogs are fed Neura (wet), and Solid Gold Holistique. They have no chemicals and no fillers. My dogs do very well on this diet. It is more expensive then the name brands, but it is much better for them. My cats are also on a very high quality cat food. Look at the ingredients on your dogs food.

We feed our dogs Nutro - which is what the rescue group we got them from use and recommend. Of course, any good that comes from an all natural dog food us probably undone by the not-so-natural dog biscuits and other crappy snacks we feed them.

I agree what other posters have said about SD and Purina. Take a look at the Whole Dog Journal, they have done great research on dog foods.

The pugs get Nature's Variety Grain Free Raw Kibble, they both have allergies and are doing great on this.

Since you asked, I feed my dog good quality dry food. We buy Beneful or Purina One on occasion, but I don't think it's the best. Usually buy Iams. But what she eats is another story. If you drop a potato chip on the floor, she walks the other way. But a dead squirrel...YUM! She can't resist. I don't know why I bother buying name brand dog food when she would rather eat roadkill. And her bowl is full of untouched food.

Yesterday DH cleaned out the deep freeze and at the bottom found beef from 10 years ago, well over my limit. He did not put it in the covered trash can. Yesterday, I awoke to my backyard looking like a butcher shop exploded- raw meat and packaging everywhere. I showered, dressed, and came out to clean it up...gone! There was a suspicious pile of dirt near the garage. I thought I'd get a shovel and dig it out later in the afternoon after I calmed down a bit. Came back later, and the yard was covered in clumps of dirt...no wait...that's dirt covered meat she had dug BACK UP.

I use Iams and my dogs seem happy and healthy after 5 years of it. On occasion, I have used the free purina stuff but mixed it in with the other. I haven't seen any suffering on their part at all.

We feed a mixture of Diamond Lamb and Rice and Diamond Maintenance.

My dogs are not going to eat better than I do!

They do very well on it and have had no health problems.

Of course they do try to supplement with the occasional rabbit, squirrel, mouse, bat, animal excrement, etc.... but we try to keep those binges to a minimum.

Iams,eukaneuba,science diet,in spite of being ridiculously expensive,are not worth the money. Also the above post with the link for food that pets are dying for...read it. It's pretty shocking.
I just learned these things myself, I thought it was good things to spend extra$$$ on Iams...
My dogs want the purina stuff,just like my kids want McD's french fries daily, but I don't let either one have it all the time...

I have been feeding my dalmation Purina for the past 10 years and the dog has never had a health problem. She is getting old now and we give her glucosimine chewables once a day for her joints. Other than that she is fine!!!

Our dogs get Science Diet and they are just fine. I think the important thing is to not switch foods so much. That could make a dog sick. We tried switching awhile ago and the dogs stomach reacted big time and we went and go them back on SD. I wouldn't worry so much like some of the over reactors, dogs eat poop on ocassion, so I don't think this food is gonna kill them.

Just watch your dogs reaction to whatever food you decide on for your dog.

I feed my yellow lab Solid Gold dog food (Hund-n-Flocken Adult Dog ). It's all natural without any additives. I strickly feed him dry food, no canned. He's very active and healthy.

My dogs get Castor and Pollux Organic adult dry dog food, it is all natural wheat-free, by-product free and it has whole meats as the #1 ingrediant also it contains veggies. I would NEVER feed my dogs any "dog chow" or purina foods its like feeding your dog mcdonalds everyday. Sure they can live on it but it wont be the best.

We went through a huge deal because our dog won't eat his food (he was on purina pro plan) and would litterly spit it out, first time I've ever seen a dog spit his food. So since I have a number of friends who show etc I asked them about what they fed their dogs. Overall the general trend seemed to be nothing with corn (it is just a filler dogs can't digest it), make sure meat is the first ingredient on the list. A lot of them used Natural Balance, so we decided to go ahead and try it and our dog loves it, it has three meats in it and few fillers so it works wonderfully for him. I won't use any food that has corn in it or other filler type substances.

My miniature dachshund gets a mix of Californial Natural and meats/veggies. I switch the California Natural with Canidae every once in a while.

My mini dacshund is on Purina Pro Plan for small breed puppy formula, as she is under 1 year old. I let her try the adult form of Purina Pro Plan and she didn't like it. Don't know what I'm going to put her on once she shouldn't have puppy formulas any longer. Anyone have any suggestions? Don't want anything with lots of fillers, just good plain dog food.....

We feed our Miniature Schnauzer Kirkland Signature Lamb and Rice (Costco). It doesn't have corn or wheat and she seems to do well on it.

I feed them Natural Choice Large Breed for healthy joints. I have two dogs both have had skin problems in the past (mange, skin allergies) and one has mild hip dysplasia. I've had to feed them Kibbles n Bits if I've run out and one got so bad from his skin I had to take him to the vet. Crappy quality but they gobble this stuff right up, and the good stuff it's like it's force feeding!

So I now make sure I never run out. I love my doggies, if only I could claim them as dependents for tax purposes
