What do you expect of Mousekeeping??

After reading another thread on tipping mousekeeping, I was wondering what other people expect them to do. We usually tip $3 to $7 per day unless we get bad service. I don't expect them to touch any of our stuff. We don't expect them to clean up our garbage. We never leave our clothes or shoes laying around for them to pick up. My wife practically makes the beds. We put away all of our toiletries. We put all the dirty towels in a pile in the tub. We leave the room quite clean for them. What we expect of them is to make the beds, vacuum, mop any tile floor, and replace the towels. After looking at many pictures of resort rooms on line, I have seen some real messy rooms. Do you pretty much follow these guide lines?? Or do you expect them to do more??

I pull up the sheets and bedspread but expect the bed to actually be "made". I expect clean towels. Refills on paper supplies as needed. Vanity wiped down as needed. Sink, toilet, shower/tub, floors cleaned. Floor vacuumed.

A friendly smile as I pass in the hall.

Basically that's about it.

I don't pick up after myself but at the same time I'm quite anal and there usually isn't much to be picked up anyway. I usually do leave the towels on the floor, but they are all in one pile in a corner of the bathroom.

I do expect them to make the beds - I have never made my own on vacation. I expect the trash to be emptied, floor vacummed, the vanity to be wiped clean, bathroom wiped down (not necessarily scrubbed, just freshened up a bit), and restock towels/toiletries.

We tip about daily about $3, unless they went above and beyond then we will do $5.

My wife doesn't actually make the beds. She just pulls up the sheets and bedspread like Ducklite mentioned.

I expect the beds to be made, the trash to be emptied, the dirty towels be replaced and the room just look tidy.

I do not make beds when I'm on vacation. I take all the dirty/used towels and put them inside the tub. We put all our trash inside the trash pails.

Mousekeeping hasn't disappointed us yet . . .we've always found our rooms clean and neat and restocked of towels/toiletries.

I don't make my bed at home, just kind of pull the blanket/sheet up. So for mousekeeping to do it while I'm on vacation is a real treat for me. I'm just lazy when it comes to making beds!!

I left $3 a day when we were at the Polynesian last Thanksgiving because we tend to be slobs...we left all of our soveniers, etc on the day bed. I do expect replacement towels and the room vacuumed. Other than that, not much more is expected, it's just nice to see when we come back from the parks to a clean room.

BUT, I did leave the mouskeeping staff my extra bottles of water, snacks, bread & jam. The jam hadn't even been opened, because when I was rushing through Publix, I just grabbed the jar, thinking it was concord grape jelly!! oh well.

I pretty much expect what others have said...

Make the bed ( I don't straighten it), clean the bathroom, empty the trash, vacuum and leave fresh towels/amenities.

We make a quick once through on the room when we leave in the mornings. We make sure our clothes both dirty and clean are put away, trash in in the cans, towels in the tub and all the cords and plugs from the laptop/video cameras/chargers are out of the way so the poor mousekeeper doesn't trip and break a leg!;)

I've always been extremely satisfied with WDW housekeeping until our stay at OKW. Housekeeping was minimal at best. It was obvious several times that the floors hadn't been vacuumed and the bathroom cleaning left much to be desired. I considered the quality of service to be just barely enough to keep me from complaining. It was also the first resort we ever stayed at where our room wasn't cleaned by the time we returned in the afternoon for a break.

I expect of Mousekeeping what I expect of any housekeeping in any hotel:

Made beds, vacuuming, fresh towels, dusting, bathroom cleaned and toiletries and towels restocked, trash emptied.

We don't expect, nor would we want them to mess with our stuff (although sometimes they straighten items around the sink that were moved for cleaning.) We usually leave the room tidy before leaving, but if it isn't, dealing with our clothes, shoes and personal items is not their job imo.

I expect them to empty the trash cans, replace the towels, make the beds and wipe down the counters. I always tidy up the room before we leave. I do pull the sheets and blankets up over the bed so that the room looks neat while we are getting ready in the morning. I keep all of our stuff fairly organized. I think the mousekeepers have an easy time in our room and we still tip them the standard $1 per person. I can't imagine leaving the room in the morning trashed the way I've seen others leave them. I'm amazed when I walk by some windows and can see the junk piled up in there. I'd be embarrassed to let anyone, even a housekeeper, see our room like that.

I wouldn't want or expect someone to put away or touch my clothes/belongings,so we always have our personal stuff put away(there are dressers there!).

We keep a bag of dirty clothes out of the way and dirty towels on the floor in the bathroom(except our beach towels, those we leave on hangers to dry).I expect housekeeping to mop, vacuum, clean tub/toilet,replace towels, soap etc...,clean mirror, make bed, change sheets every so often and that's about it.

I did housekeeping one summer of high school and that was pretty much what was required of us.I also know it can be a hard, thankless job,so even though tipping is not required by WDW,I still do it(anywhere I stay).

For those who say you get paid for it and shouldn't recieve a tip,let me tell you, this is one of the lowest pay jobs out there and you work your butt off!Everyone wants their room cleaned by 11:00 and if you have 50 or more rooms to clean, you do the math! It's almost impossible!A $5 tip is not too much to compensate them for their effort,IMHO.

People may think we're weird, but we bring a hamper for our dirty clothes. We have the valet service do our laundry when the hamper gets full (though I've just learned of a place off-site that will do this a lot cheaper!). We don't leave clothes out and we fully unpack and put away our suitcases to eliminate clutter. However, I expect housekeeping to make the beds, pick up any trash (not that we just throw it on the floor), change the towels out (which we leave on the bathroom floor), to keep the floor vacumed, and glass and fixtures cleaned. I also expect nightly turndown service, which is automatic at the GF and concierge rooms, and can be requested at all of the deluxes. For this service, we tip $5 a day.

We like to have the floors cleaned each day. Also the tub/toilet area cleaned. Vanity area wiped down. Fresh supplies as needed. Fresh sheets on beds every 3 days or so, but bed made each morning. We reuse our towels, so a change in towels every 2-3 days is okay.
We also are pretty neat. Our last trip in '01 housekeeping left a little something to be desired. Some days our room was spotless, others it was as if only the beds had been done. There were dust bunnies on the floor, and hair and gunk in the tub. Toilet looked like it hadn't been touched either. We were in POR at the time and we had convinced our friends to stay there with us. They had previously stayed at the Polynesian so I know they were waiting to be impressed. I'm not at all sure they were too happy with housekeeping.

I normally tip $5 per day for just two of us, and I expect pretty much what all the other posters have indicated. I never expect them to pick up after me, and I always pile the dirty/wet towels in the bathtub.

The only time that I stopped tipping was last year when we stayed at the Polynesian. The housekeeper did a horrible job of making the bed (in fact, I woke up in the middle of the night to re-make the bed three different times). She would just lay the sheets on the bed and not tuck them in, so they became all bunched up every night.

After the third time of re-making the bed, the tips stopped.

Other than that, I've always had good experiences with Disney housekeeping :p

We probably aren't as neat as you guys seem to be, but we're not messy either. I defintely don't even come close to making up the beds. I do try to have my clothes, shoes and "stuff" out of the way so they can vacuum. As far as toiletries, we're pretty messy I guess. Mousekeeping usually puts our stuff in a little better order for us. Which I appreciate but don't "expect".

All I really expect is the garbage emptied, beds made, towels in the tub replaced, plenty of toilet paper available, room vacummed. And, if this could be done at a reasonable time, say by lunch or right after that would be appreciated since we may come back to the room to relax.

We usually tip about $5 a day if the service is good.

I basically expect the same as everyone else. Beds made, towels & Paper products replenished, garbage taken out, etc...We also tip to show our appreciation. Usually between $3-5 a day. What I've been most dissapointed with lately is there seems to be little vacuuming done. I can understand not doing it for the same guests over and over again during their stay, but you would think that the floors would be immaculate when the room is made up between guests. I also the expect Mousekeeping NOT to touch my stuff. We are very neat while we are away and I had personal belongings thrown out by a Mousekeeper. If you have packaging that you need hide it in your luggage-whatever you do don't leave it out or it may vanish.

This is off topic but- If you have any Disney receipts that were paid with via a credit card keep them in your wallet. Their receipts have the full CC number and expiry on them-you don't want them lying around for strangers to see.

If you request turn-down service, how much extra do you then tip? We've never asked for it before, but most likely will this coming trip. We normally tip $5 a day for 3 of us.

I think I expect the same as everyone else. We bring our own sheets & blankets so mousekeeping really doesn't touch the bed. I straighten it before we leave the room. I put my sheets & blankets away every morning. I do like to get extra towels so I leave a note. Of course any cute things they do make it extra special for the kids - ok, the adults too. At the AKL our mousekeeper was the same everyday & she was GREAT. We liked her alot.
