I'm a little stressed b/c my dh says he doesn't want our usual Christmas dinner - beef brisket in a cranberry/tomato sauce (which is yum) and wants something different - and not turkey dinner. What do you have? Any good recipes? HELP! Thanks!

We do a "Disney inspired" brunch buffet. We start soon after we get up & then graze-and-replace items until mid-afternoon when we clean up & go to my older sister's.

I haven't done the planning yet for this year, but this is what we've had in years past - not necessarily all the same year! ;)
stollen (sweet bread)
Strawberry Banana Bread - from WL
Breakfast Casserole
Frunch - from AKL
Orange Muffins
Au Gratin Potatoes - from Cinderlla's breakfast
peel-and-eat shrimp and fake crab pieces
ring bologna
various cheeses & crackers
crab rangoon
veggies & dip
face first dip & chips
Banana Bread Pudding - from AKL
Dole Whips - from MK
monkey bread
overnight peach french toast

Do you have time earlier in the week to do a roast beef in the crockpot or a turkey/breast? Something we really like that I'm considering for this year is either of these, cooked & then shredded - i.e. pulled. Then I store the meat in the broth & serve on hard rolls with horseradish sauce. This is absolutely yum with the right seasonings.

Can you tell I'm all about enjoying the day with my kids? All of that is made ahead. I just pull it out, toss it on a tray & enjoy.

If you'd like any of those recipes, just let me know.

We always have a buffet set up. This way we can set it out all day and eat as each becomes hungry. At first we all serve ourselves and sit and eat together. Then we keep the hot things warm in crockpots and warming trays, keep cold things on ice or in the fridge. As we get hungry during the rest of the day we just help ourselves and eat in spurts. Works out good in our house and we do the same thing at my mothers.
Here are different menu items we might have. We add and delete different things yearly but this is the basic list of items you will find.

Italian dishes, such as lasagna, Italian crockpot ziti, or ravioli
Meatballs in sauce
Bendookies ( an all pork meatball very moist and delish served plain no sauce. it's Polish or Lith.)
Pierogies... homemade of course
Pork roast or Roast beef slow cooked in a crockpot the day before
Miniature crab cakes or crab bites
Kielbaski (we get it fresh at a local meat shop and it is great!
potato salad, cole slaw or broccoli salad
Ham sliced
Turkey sliced and kept warm in gravy
Mashed potatoes or au gratin potatoes
pickled or deviled eggs
breads and rolls
sometimes a hot veggie or green bean casserole

This is a list of things you'll find between my house and my mothers. I own a bar and restaurant and I do a Christmas buffet and a New Years buffet every year for our customers. So I have a lot of buffet ideas, like all different finger sandwiches and bite sized food such as piggy-back shrimp(shrimp wrapped in bacon and baked) and finger wraps and different type of hot foods. Need any recipes or ideas just email me.
Happy Holidays!

Wwe always have the traditional turkey, spiral ham, mashed potatoes, candied carrots, green been casserole, warm rolls, cranberry sauce, etc...
and usually I add a few different things too - this year it will be meat pies, and I haven't decided what else yet (maybe a twiced baked potaotoe casserole with cheese, bacon, etc...)

we grill a nice steak and have baked potatoes or french fries, cheese bread (italian bread sliced and buttered with parmesan cheese. bake in 300 oven for 10 minutes or while the steak is grilling) and corn. our splurge is a brownie (made with applesauce, no oil) with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

You could sub the steak with a nice chicken breast that's been marinating in Italian Salad bottle dressing overnight (verrrry flavorful). grill and presto...

I know this isn't at all like my grandma and mom used to make, but it fits our family and we enjoy it just as much!
merry christmas. :cool1:
