What do you do?

I am planning on buying a new camera before our Disney trip in 2 months. I told a few of my co-workers while we were discussing cameras and they basically said that I wouldn't want to take a nice camera to Disney! But I know from reading these boards and looking at photo sites that hundreds of people take their "nice" cameras to Disney. So, how do you do it? Where do you store/put the camera while in the parks and do you have any other tips you can give me? Thanks!

I always take my good camera (Canon EOS 50D)!! Most of the time the camera is around my neck, but if we are going on a ride and i can't hold it, i put it in my camera bag and put it in the netting if the ride has it or i put my feet through the straps of my camera bag.

My 50D spent the week last month around my neck, hanging from a comfy strap. I did have a plastic bag with me to put it in when it rained.

I take mine on everything and everywhere.
I don't see why someone would want to buy a camera and then leave it in their room or at home! The whole point is to use it!

When going to disneyland, I usually take my DSLR. However, I will say just watching a show is way different than photographing it. Even though I have seen most shows a couple times it is nice to just watch once in a while.

Seriously, you are posting on a board where lots of people consider photography one of the highlights of their Disney trip, so they always bring good cameras. Whether you should depends on how you see your trip. There is a small burden in carrying a DSLR and the burden increases with every lens, flash, or tripod you drag along. Personally, I prefer to go with a DSLR with one lens mounted and another lens being carried.

Here's something I discovered on my recent trip. Disney will let you take your gear pretty much anywhere you want. On a roller coaster? Sure! Just put your foot through the backpack loop and mind you dont get a black eye on Everest.

But if you are going to Universal, it's very different there. It's rare that you are allowed to photograph on rides and it's often required that you store your gear in lockers before you even go on the ride. I found it such a pain that the second day I did Universal I didn't even bring my gear.

Just something to keep in mind.

Bring mine every time. It either lives around my neck or in my backpack. Even upgrading this trip to bring a tripod with me (although that will only come with for some night time firework shots).

Six Flags parks also make you store your gear on a lot of rides. The one here has even put in lockers by the roller coasters.

What’s the point in having a really good or great camera if you’re not going to take it to the second most picturesque place on the planet? (#1 – Grotto at Hef’s place)

My DW and DD have hinted that they would like to see that “other place” once. Well this new bit of info just means that they will be flying solo. If my camera can’t ride, I won’t go… I didn’t want to go anyway. This will give me time to work on my "dark ride" shots - which I suck at...

I bring two DSLR's, two P & S', video camera and a computer to daily review what has been shot. And we are not even talking about the accessories, tripods, flashes, etc. You would think that this would be hard to fly with, but it really isn't. A little organization and it works like a charm. The DW sometimes doesn't like to carry her DSLR, but I enacted a new rule this past trip that she isn't allowed to ask for mine if she decides not to carry hers. Reason? Everytime she has mine, I miss a photo op! I say bring the good camera. Its the reason we spend all that money!

That's awesome! Lol...

I am going in a month and a half and I plan on bringing my dSLR and my wife's new P&S. I am, however, getting a sling strap and a neoprene case for the camera to help in case of bumps and bruises, as well as bringing some gallon-sized zip-top bags.
